WATCH: Dream comes true for student who managed to get Tyla as his date for his matric dance
Matriculant Mollwane Madiba's dream came true when Grammy award-winning singer Tyla showed up to his matric dance. A dream come true: matric student Mollwane Madiba with his date, Tyla at his matric dance. Picture: @BALUCIAGA/X Dreams come true for those who are persistent and patient enough. These words hold true for matric student Mollwane Madiba. After months of campaigning like a politician in election season and with a child-like conviction that was borderline delusional, Madiba's dream of having Grammy award-winning singer Tyla as his matric dance partner come true. The South African global star attended the matric dance after many people thought Madiba's dream wouldn't become a reality. Even a day before the dance, doubt began to creep in as Madiba started asking people who might be interested in being his date to reach out to him. 'I just got to Sandton to get my suit, I don't want to go to this dance alone,' he said in a video. 'If there's anyone who wants to go with me, message me ASAP [as soon as possible].' In one video students ask 'Who do you think Mollwane is taking to MD?' followed by responses of 'Tyla, obviously.' Using the hashtag #MOandTYLAForMD, almost all the videos feature Tyla's song Push 2 Start. Madiba has seemingly met Tyla, as he has a photo of himself with the Water singer. In one video shot in what appears to be a school library, the photo of the two is displayed prominently on bookshelves, walls and wherever it can be seen. Mercedes-Benz Recall Multiple SUVs Due To This Risk, Is Your Model Affected Too?
Last Updated: According to the reports, the SIAM has revealed that over 30 units are affected, out of which, a total of 16 are EQS sedans, nine S-Class models, three GLC, and two AMG SLs. The German carmaker Mercedes-Benz is best known for its cutting-edge technology and high level of engineering in its cars. Recently, some of the models in India from the brand reported potential fire risk, which forced the company to recall hot-selling models like EQS sedan, GLC, AMG SL 55, and S-Class. According to the reports, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) revealed that over 30 units have been found affected, out of which, a total of 16 are EQS sedans, nine S-Class models, three GLC, and two AMG SLs. Complementary Repair In order to give a seamless ownership experience, the brand has decided to contact the owners who have purchased the above-mentioned models between 22 July 2023 and 20 March 2024, and solve the issue without any charges. Statement As per the brand, the issue will be resolved and the affected part will be replaced if needed without any cost. The company has also released an official statement that reads, 'It has been identified that the fuse boxes might not have been reworked correctly. As a result, systems connected to the fuse might fail, and the vehicle might lose its propulsion without prior warning, and the restraint functions or the instrument cluster might also be impaired, increasing the risk of a crash and injuries. Under such specific circumstances, a potential risk of a thermal incident in the vehicle cannot be excluded." This is not the first time such an initiative has been taken by Mercedes-Benz. Earlier this year, in March, the brand did the same to address a similar fire risk issue. The other issues reported were related to a software glitch and a front passenger airbag issue. Bentley Doesn't Want Mercedes-Benz To Revive These Iconic Cabriolets
Imagine the rejuvenating waft of ocean air flowing through your long and full head of hair. The sun's heavy rays beat down on you with the same effect as steaming rocks in a sauna, but your cashmere polo stays void of sweat, thanks to the blissfully effective ventilation packed beneath the supple leather seats in your Mercedes-Benz convertible as you dash briskly out of town, away from your day job, and off into the cloudless weekend. This is what life is like in a drop-top Mercedes–all the theatrical joie de vivre of a top-end Benz, elevated exponentially by the disappearance of a roof. It's a simple recipe for success in the business of flashy, high-end luxury, but it seems these days that, in the pursuit of cost-cutting, shareholder value maximization, and regulatory compliance, Mercedes-Benz seems to have turned its back on some of the brand's most coveted convertible models. Models like the S-Class Cabriolet and the G-Class Cabriolet have long acted as high watermarks that set Mercedes-Benz apart from other so-called "luxury brands" who never had the guts to build such inaccessibly niche yet over-the-top extravagant models. Kids might have bright orange Lamborghinis sticky-puttied onto their bedroom walls, but the grown elite fantasize about lavish Rolls-Royce Dropheads and sultry convertible Bentleys. With models like the S-Cab and the G-Cab, Mercedes-Benz signalled to the world that it could keep up with the elite go-tos like Rolls-Royce and Bentley in terms of elegance and excessive extravagance, all with German build quality to boot. Neither Audi nor BMW ever offered drop-top variants of their full-size sedan or of a military-grade SUV, and that level of extremism has thus become synonymous with Mercedes-Benz instead of Audi or BMW. Using generative text-to-image artificial intelligence and Adobe Photoshop, we take an imagined look at what some iconic Mercedes-Benz convertible models would look like if revived for the modern day, using contemporary styling and modern body styles. These renders are purely for speculative and entertainment purposes and in no way depict any actual Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-AMG, or Mercedes-Maybach products. Only a few short years ago, the Mercedes-Benz cabriolet lineup included variants of most of the brand's traditional sedans, including the C-Class Cabrio, the E-Class Cabrio, and the venerable S-Class Cabrio, which represented the pinnacle of extravagance in the standard Mercedes-Benz lineup and could even be had in AMG and Maybach flavors. Now that Mercedes has replaced both the C- and E-Class Cabriolet with the sporty and modern CLE-Class, the world has been left without a worthy successor to the big body S-Class Cabriolet. Based on the W223 platform, an all-new Mercedes-Benz S580 Cabriolet could make use of the model's twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 with mild hybrid drive to produce up to 496 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, placing its performance stats close to those of the 2025 Bentley Continental GT Azure, which packs 516 horsepower from a similar, hybridized and twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 setup. Reviving the S-Class Cabriolet on the Mercedes-Benz W223 platform could even spawn AMG and Maybach variants, just as the W222 generation can so proudly claim. Imagine a high-performance Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance Cabriolet with 791 horsepower and a whopping 1,055 lb-ft of torque from a handcrafted twin-turbocharged plug-in hybrid 4.0-liter V8. Using 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive and an AMG SPEEDSHIFT 9-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, imagine doing 0-60 mph sprints in just 3.3 seconds with the wind in your hair. Alternatively, for those who appreciate the S-Class Cabrio's massive talents as a superbly luxurious cruiser, a Mercedes-Maybach S680 Cabriolet variant could make use of the lush, twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 found in the contemporary Maybach saloon, which packs a 621 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque punch. The Mercedes-Benz G-Class Cabriolet has become a true cult classic in its own right, as its striking yet classy appearance has aged like fine wine. The G-Class Cabriolet has become so coveted, in fact, that clean examples command exponentially higher price tags than standard, non-cabriolet variants. For example, this 2006 Mercedes-Benz G500 Cabriolet, auctioned on Bring a Trailer, sold for an astonishing $350,000 USD back in 2022. Compare that to this 2008 Mercedes-Benz G500 that sold just a month prior for $52,500, despite being two years newer, and it becomes clear that the collector car market recognizes tremendous value in the topless two-door G-Wagen variant. Perhaps Mercedes should take the hint and bring the massively desirable cabriolet back into its model lineup. Although the contemporary Mercedes-Benz lineup is not entirely absent of convertible offerings, the CLE-Class exists as the sole traditional cabriolet offering, with the SL-Class carrying the flag for the iconic Mercedes roadster format. It's unfortunate to see such historic and coveted convertibles vanish from the German automaker's legendary lineup, but we're hopeful that we'll see a comeback soon. Perhaps we'll even see some electric Mercedes cabrios eventually! Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

Rupee slide fuels Mercedes-Benz price hike
Mercedes-Benz India faced a 13% increase in cost over the past year as the rupee continued to weaken against the euro, inflating the cost of imported parts. The Indian arm of the German luxury carmaker, which imports about 70% of its components, responded with calibrated price hikes, Santosh Iyer , managing director, Mercedes-Benz India told ET. Still, the automaker is noting a trend among Indian customers to splurge, not just on base luxury car models, but on bespoke customisations that often add ₹60 lakh to ₹1.5 crore to a car's price tag. Mercedes-Benz India raised car prices twice this year—one in January and another in June—with a third planned for September, said Iyer. The rupee breached the psychologically significant ₹100 mark against the euro only earlier this week. 'We've only passed on about 3% to the market but the rupee depreciation has raised our costs by nearly 13%. The gap is getting harder to absorb,' he said. Indian luxury car buyers are however undeterred by the elevated price tags. More than 70% of the company's top-end vehicles (TEV), priced above Rs1.5 crore, are being customised through its 'Manufaktur' programme, among the highest globally for Mercedes-Benz. Manufaktur is the cross-brand personalisation range for exclusive exterior equipment and high-quality interior equipment. Mercedes buyers in India are opting for hand-picked wood trims, exotic leather options, and bespoke paintwork, often pushing the price of already top-end vehicles like the AMG GT 63 or Maybach S-Class significantly higher. On Friday, the company unveiled two new sports cars from its 'GT Family'—the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 4MATIC with a dealership price of Rs3 crore, and the track-focused Mercedes-AMG GT 63 PR at Rs3.65 crore. "Customisation is not just about indulgence anymore; it's about value perception,' said Iyer. 'Customers see Nappa leather or special trim as worth the premium — even with the currency hit.' The surge in personalised luxury comes even as Mercedes-Benz continues to localise high-volume models—from the A-Class to the Maybach S580—to buffer some of the forex impact. The recently-launched E-Class sedan, for instance, features fully-localised glazing components for the first time, said Iyer. Still, high-value items like powertrains, infotainment systems, and electronics remain heavily Euro-dependent, making price hikes almost inevitable if the rupee remains at current levels. Despite the higher prices, sales of TEV models grew at an estimated 10-12% on-year in the first five months of 2025. This was boosted by a mix of thriving capital markets, resilient consumer sentiment, and lower borrowing costs passed on through the automaker's captive non-bank lending company. Recent reduction in interest rates by the Reserve Bank of India helped the NBFC to further cut the cost of borrowing, which it passed on to buyers. 'We are trying to mitigate that (higher prices of cars) with these special EMIs," said Iyer.
