Death in Paradise fans 'can't stop watching' star's forgotten thriller
Don Gilet is best known for playing Detective Inspector Mervin Wilson in Death in Paradise - but before that he appeared in a thriller series that fans may have forgotten about With Death in Paradise not anticipated to return for several months, viewers might fancy watching one cast member's overlooked thriller. Don Gilet, who joined the programme as Detective Inspector Mervin Wilson in 2024, previously starred in the gripping drama The Loch. The six-episode series, which originally broadcast on ITV in 2017, unfolds in a remote Scottish village plagued by a ruthless killer. Folk in the town of Lochnefoy remain oblivious to which neighbour harbours murderous intent, and matters deteriorate when a local man's corpse is discovered at the foot of a mountain. Following a post-mortem examination revealing he was brutally slain, with a portion of his brain extracted, officers launch a manhunt for the perpetrator, reports the Manchester Evening News. Don portrays forensic psychologist Blake Albrighton in the production alongside Siobhan Finneran and Laura Fraser as the detectives spearheading the probe. Those yearning for compelling detective drama can now stream The Loch - retitled Lochness - on Netflix. Upon its initial release, it garnered predominantly favourable reviews. One fan commented: "I really enjoyed this series. The characters were versatile, well-developed and the subplots were tied ultimately to the solution of the murders. "The photography of the Scottish countryside was spectacular. The only problem I had was understanding the accents some of the minor characters voiced. I cannot understand why this series was not continued as it seemed very intriguing and certainly captured my interest." Another viewer gushed: "Not for a minute could I stop watching. This is the stuff of mysteries. Twists no one saw coming - not even the cast! Does this small village community hide the sinister underbelly we've come to expect from seemingly idyllic little towns? I'm not telling. "Watch it - but don't expect answers until the very last, thrilling moments! But wait, is he really gone? or is it just my wishful thinking there'll be more.." However, not all viewers were impressed, with one critic writing: "Supposedly a police procedural show, I found this lacking in engagement with too many seemingly inconsequential characters adding nothing to the story. The police actions, particularly the local officers, was very poor - a bit like chickens with their heads cut off. Some seemed to have no point at all. Quite annoying after watching some well written shows of the same ilk."
