Steelers Behind-The-Scenes Look At 'Aggressive' Trade And Metcalf's View On Rodgers

Steelers Behind-The-Scenes Look At 'Aggressive' Trade And Metcalf's View On Rodgers originally appeared on Athlon Sports. D.K. Metcalf is saying goodbye to the Seattle Seahawks ... And saying hello to Aaron Rodgers. Advertisement he Pittsburgh Steelers have jettisoned Russell Wilson and Justin Fields and Najee Harris and George Pickens, turning over their offense to QB Rodgers (on the wrong side of 40) and Metcalf (who needed a divorce from the Seattle Seahawks). The newly acquired Metcalf - filling in here after Pittsburgh shipped Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys for a 2026 third-round pick - could be part of an upgrade with Rodgers over the 2024 duo of Russell Wilson and Pickens. Whether that's enough to win a playoff game for the first time since 2016, though, is the point. What does Metcalf think the Steelers' new quarterback brings? Advertisement 'Just how cerebral he is and how he views the game,' Metcalf said, via Penn Live's Nick Farabaugh. 'I like the way he views the game from a receiver's standpoint, but also from a quarterback's standpoint. I think I can gain a lot of knowledge just from being around him because he's seen a lot of football. Just trying to soak up as much information as I can.' By the way, Metcalf also suggests that he didn't see Pickens as the problem that some in Pittsburgh do. 'I would've loved to play with George Pickens,' Metcalf said. 'Being here, just to see how he was as a teammate, just to see what I could learn from him. It was a decision the team made and it was out of my hands.' Another decision? Metcalf, who signed an extension here, being sent away by Seattle. Why did they give up on their freakishly massive wideout? Advertisement On the "3 & Out Podcast," Seahawks general manager John Schneider explained. "Pittsburgh (and Steelers general manager Omar Khan), those guys were really aggressive," Schneider said, as shared by Tim Benz of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. "It just happened, and again, you can't change the way people think. As much as we love him and want to have him here, when people want to leave, it's difficult to try to convince them to stay. "Once we got back from the combine, we had another real open talk. Then we told him we would concede to his wishes." So this was mostly D.K.'s idea? And he gets a five-year, $150 million contract extension as part of the Steelers trade? Great. Advertisement Now D.K. and Aaron just need to say hello to a playoff win or two. Austin Metcalf's accused killer Karmelo Anthony needs support fighting ‘white supremacy' after murder indictment: spox

The spokesman for the family of Karmelo Anthony launched into yet another racial tirade after the 18-year-old was indicted Tuesday for allegedly stabbing Frisco, Texas, track star Austin Metcalf to death. Shortly after the indictment, Dominique Alexander, founder and president of the Next Generation Action Network (NGAN), took to X to announce that 'the legal process will move forward toward trial.' Advertisement 'This case involves multiple minors and sensitive details that I cannot and will not speak about publicly,' he said. 'That is why, from the beginning, I have refused to let this be tried in the court of public opinion.' Alexander then spoke directly to those who he says have 'targeted' Anthony. 'To the racists, the bigots, and those filled with hate who've targeted Karmelo, his family, and even myself – you do not intimidate us. We are not backing down. 'This case is yet another example of what it means to be Black in America, where even our self-defense is questioned, scrutinized and politicized. My involvement – like many others — came as a direct response to the overwhelming hate, threats and outside influence that have surrounded this case since day one.' Advertisement He then asked Anthony's supporters for prayers, to support due process, and to '[s]tand with us in the fight against white supremacy.' 5 Karmelo Anthony stands next to Minister Dominique Alexander after the teen was bailed out of jail in April 2025. @niquealex/Instagram NGAN reiterated Wednesday that it is 'committed to ensuring that Karmelo receives a fair trial and that this case is not tried in the court of public opinion,' but declined to comment further. Anthony's lawyer, Mike Howard, said the case isn't about race. Advertisement 'The factual and legal issues involved in this case are not about race. The case involves two kids, one white, one black, so it's understandable that some people would make it about race or discuss it in terms of race,' Howard told Fox News Digital by email. 'To be very clear, we don't see this as a case about race. The law applies to every person, regardless of their race, equally. 'Don't really care what he has to say,' he bluntly told Fox News Digital on Wednesday when asked about Alexander's online post. 'I am pleased that we are moving forward,' he told Fox News Digital on Tuesday. 'With the first-degree murder indictment, it now goes into the court system. I fully believe that justice will be served for Austin Metcalf. I look forward to the forthcoming trial. But it will never bring my son back.' Alexander has made racially charged comments about the case since stepping in as the Anthony family's spokesman. After Anthony's bond was reduced from $1 million to $250,000 in April, a press conference hosted by Alexander and NGAN devolved into chaos when Jeff Metcalf showed up. Metcalf was quietly escorted out by Dallas police, but subsequently, Alexander used the conference to attack Metcalf and discuss race. Former NFL nutritionist warns Steelers WR DK Metcalf's candy diet poses injury risk

DK Metcalf's infamous "candy diet" has come under fire from former NFL nutritionist Leslie Bonci. In a recent interview with Action Network, Bonci shared several concerns about Metcalf's eating habits: "You may be increasing the risk of injury because of not necessarily having the protein when needs over the course of the day. … There are some studies that are looking at a lot of sugar, which may — and underlying may — be pro-inflammatory, but again, it's a little bit more speculation at this point than it is science to say that it is the case. But I think it's just the wear and tear that happens. "Over the course of the season, not just the time that one is on the field, it's about having to travel and do all of these other things. The goal of eating is supposed to be supportive and to complement the activity that we do — not to work against it. To me, this is more the foe than the friend." Back in 2022, Metcalf's diet went viral when he shared with NBA star Kevin Garnett that his daily meal plan consisted of drinking one coffee, eating just one meal, and downing three bags of candy. The receiver has since claimed that he's cut back on candy, but the Steelers' nutritionists should still keep an eye on their new star wide receiver. After all, Pittsburgh invested $132 million in keeping Metcalf around long-term. For up-to-date Steelers coverage, follow us on X @TheSteelersWire and give our Facebook page a like.

Karmelo Anthony Indicted By Grand Jury For 1st-Degree Murder, What's Next?

Source: unknown / other On Tuesday, a Collin County grand jury indicted Karmelo Anthony on a first-degree murder charge — a decision that will please advocates for the alleged victim, 17-year-old Austin Metcalf, but outrage people who have wondered for months why it's so hard for a Black teen to be taken seriously when he claims self-defense. Anthony, who was 17 when he allegedly stabbed Metcalf to death during a track meet at Kuykendall Stadium, 'could face a possible sentence of 5-99 years or life in prison,' CBS News reported, noting that 'in the Texas criminal justice system, 17-year-olds are considered adults.' So, what's next for the now 18-year-old, who has been on house arrest since he was released on a reduced bond on April 14? Well, now that Anthony has officially been indicted, the next step is to assign a trial judge to preside over his case. That judge will then set a court date for the defendant's first appearance. That part of the legal process could take days, weeks or months. In the meantime, both prosecutors and defense attorneys seem eager to make their cases. 'We know this case has struck a deep nerve — here in Collin County and beyond. That's understandable. When something like this happens at a school event, it shakes people to the core,' Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis said in a statement. 'But the justice system works best when it moves with steadiness and with principle. That's what we're committed to. And that's exactly what this case deserves.' Austin's father, Jeff Metcalf, appears hopeful that the court will give him and his family justice. 'I am pleased that we are moving forward. With the first-degree murder indictment, it now goes into the court system. I fully believe that justice will be served for Austin Metcalf. I look forward to the forthcoming trial. But it will never bring my son back,' he said. However, Karmelo's attorney, Mike Howard, appears to be just as confident that his client will be vindicated once he's allowed to tell his version of the tragic event that unfolded on April 2. 'Karmelo and his family are confident in the justice system and the people of Collin County to be fair and impartial,' Howard said in a recorded video. 'Of course, Karmelo looks forward to his day in court, because it's only in a trial that the full story can be heard, and that impartial justice can be done. We expect that when the full story is heard, the prosecution will not be able to rule out the reasonable doubt that Carmelo Anthony may have acted in self-defense.' On April 2, Anthony, a student-athlete at Centennial High School, allegedly stabbed Metcalf during a dispute that turned into a physical altercation under the Memorial High School tent at David Kuykendall Stadium during a Frisco ISD district-wide track meet. Multiple witnesses, including Metcalf's twin brother Hunter, told police that the two teens did not know each other prior to the altercation. Witnesses also stated that Metcalf and his teammates confronted Anthony after noticing he was under their team's tent wearing a different school's tracksuit. According to USA TODAY, an arrest affidavit noted that a school resource officer was the first to arrive on the scene, and when he instructed Anthony to put his hands up, the teen allegedly replied, 'I was protecting myself!' Karmelo Anthony indicted on first-degree murder charge for fatal stabbing at Texas high school track meet

Anthony has been charged with the murder of Austin Metcalf at a track meet in Frisco, Texas. Karmelo Anthony, the 17-year-old high school student who allegedly fatally stabbed Austin Metcalf, also 17, at a championship track meet in Frisco, TX, in April, has been charged with first-degree murder, according to TMZ. Anthony reportedly admitted to the stabbing but maintained that he did it in self-defense. The charges were announced on Tuesday in Collin County, Texas. During a press conference to announce the charges, Collin County District Attorney said, 'For weeks, my team has been presenting evidence to the Grand Jury. Today, I summarized that evidence, and I asked the Grand Jury to return a first-degree murder indictment against Karmelo Anthony and — which they did.' He continued, 'With that indictment his case now moves formally into the court system. From this point forward, we'll continue doing our part—fully and fairly—to pursue justice under the law. The trial schedule will be set by the court. But when the time comes, we'll be ready.' On April 2, 2025, at a district track and field championship held at Frisco's Kuykendall Stadium, Anthony allegedly sought cover when it began to rain under a tent belonging to Memorial High School. Metcalf, a student at Memorial, told Metcalf that he needed to leave the tent; then an altercation ensued that resulted in Anthony allegedly stabbing Metcalf in the chest. The case drew national attention for several reasons: Metcalf was a white student and Anthony is a Black student. Both families raised large sums of money in the wake of the incident. Anthony's bond, originally set at $1 million, was reduced to $250,000, which also drew outrage from some corners of the internet. The case became a lightning rod for discussions about race and the criminal justice system. Anthony's attorney, Mike Howard, reiterated that his client acted in self-defense in a video message and said, 'We are confident that when all the facts are presented and the full story is heard the jury will reach the right conclusion and justice will be done.'
