2 Mumbai Metros, bullet train & BKC: Metro-3 tunnel will be like subways at Churchgate & CSMT, with shops and travelators. FOB will connect bullet train terminal to 2B's IL&FS
2 Mumbai Metros, bullet train & BKC: In what may come as good news for Mumbai's commuters, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train will be linked to two Metros – Metro-3 or the aqua line through a tunnel at Bandra-Kurla Complex and 2B via a foot overbridge (FOB), according to reports.
The integration is a joint effort led by the National High‑Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL), in coordination with urban transport agencies including the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL).
How will bullet train be linked to Mumbai Metro-3?
Metro‑3 connects Aarey in the north with Cuffe Parade in the south, offering vital links to the airport, suburban rail networks, and inner‑city corridors
A 1.1-km underground tunnel equipped with travelators will link the bullet train station and Metro Line‑3's Kotak‑BKC station, said reports.
The tunnel will be modelled on Mumbai's existing subways at Churchgate and CSMT, featuring shops for added convenience. Access will be streamlined through four vestibules serving nearby pedestrian zones.
The tunnel is estimated to cost between Rs 100 and Rs 150 crore.

Line‑2B runs from DN Nagar to Mandale.
The FOB will connect to Metro Line‑2B's IL&FS station.
It will start at the bullet train terminal's road‑level concourse, leading to Metro Line‑2B's station, a mere 50 metres away. This FOB addresses critical first‑last mile connectivity needs, especially for passengers with luggage transferring between long‑distance bullet and city‑wide metro networks.
At present, excavation and civil work at the bullet train site are in full swing.
The first slab for the Boisar Bullet Train station has been successfully cast. This slab is approximately 40 meters wide and 37 meters long, consuming over 1,070 cubic meters of concrete. There will be 9 such slabs at this level. @PIBMumbai @ddsahyadrinews — NHSRCL (@nhsrcl) June 17, 2025

Italy has pioneered similar projects in Milan and Rome.
Bullet train project & BKC terminal
News18 has earlier reported that construction across all four high-speed railway stations in Maharashtra is proceeding at full speed. The most complex of them—the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) station in Mumbai—is taking shape 100 feet below ground level, making it the deepest station on the route.
Construction at the Virar Bullet Train Station in Maharashtra has reached a key milestone with the casting of the first of nine massive concrete slabs, News18 had reported.
This is India's first bullet train project connecting two financial towns – Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
The 508-km Project comprises 12 stations—four in Maharashtra (Mumbai, Thane, Virar, Boisar) and eight in Gujarat (Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad, Sabarmati). BKC in Mumbai is the only underground station along the corridor.
