Metro journalists select and curate the products that feature on our site. If you make a purchase via links on this page we will earn commission – learn more Boots stocks a whole host of beauty brands, but its own collection is equally as impressive as other premium labels – if not more so. Case in point is Boots' Glossy Lip Balms, which are said to rival the cult Summer Fridays lip balms, but for a fraction of the price. With a sea of lip balms dropping on the beauty market every other day of the week, from Rhode Summer Fridays, Laneige, to Glossier and Glow Recipe, it can be hard to stand out. However, Boots' Glossy Lip Balms have cracked the code as this make-up essential has sold out due to popular demand. This nourishing and hydrating balm offers a deep conditioning to dry and cracked lips. The smooth texture applies seamlessly on your lips for a high-shine finish. Dropping in three new flavours, including Peach, Raspberry and Vanilla, with a subtle tint to match the name. Buy Now for £3 According to Boots, one Glossy Lip Balm has been sold every 30 seconds since its launch last year, which is quite remarkable. Boots has heard our cries for more Glossy Lip Balms and delivered with not just one, but three new flavours. Adding to the collection, which currently includes Coconut, Cherry and Mint, is Vanilla, Peach and Raspberry. The Glossy Lip Balms are ultra hydrating and conditioning, which is ideal for those susceptible to chapped lips. The formula is smooth yet leaves a glossy, high-shine finish. Plus, depending on the flavour you will find the balm has a hint of colour. For example, Vanilla is a clear finish, while Peach offers a subtle coral tint and Raspberry is a pinky-red hue. The best part is the Glossy Lip Balms retail for a very purse-friendly £3, while other competitors can fetch £23, which makes a saving of £20. In fact, you could purchase the full six Glossy Lip Balms from Boots and still have change left over. Not convinced? The original threesome has garnered glowing reviews, as well as sell-out status. More Trending One shopper's review read: 'Wasn't expecting much from this product, but I used it before I went to sleep, I woke up after a six hour sleep and the hydration was still on my lips, normally no other lip balm stays as long as this one except for the Laneige Sleep Mask, which is also a good lip balm for really dry lips, but it's pricy. It's such a good affordable lip balm you're getting 15ml of product!! I'm really amazed at this product and will be purchasing the coconut flavour. You can't really smell the mint flavour in this, there is a slight tingling, but it doesn't affect me.' A separate shopper, named Minky, gushed: 'Sooooo good! Does not feel sticky at all and makes my lips feel sooo soft. Will be getting more.' While Miah shared: 'Apparently a Glossier dupe, and surprisingly really good and hydrating. It's only a few pounds, so definitely would buy again. The mint scent/flavour is subtle which is really nice.' Boots' Glossy Lip Balms will launch online first on June 17, before dropping in store in July. Considering the three originals flew off the shelves, it's anticipated the new trio will follow suit. Newport drug dealer sold cocaine and heroin in Asda car park
At around 4.30pm on April 6, police officers on patrol in Newport noticed Thariq Miah approaching a car in the Asda car park in Pill in what they considered looked like a drug deal. Miah spotted the police and attempted to flee, throwing his manbag onto a nearby roof. He was arrested and searched, and was found with £70 in cash, 16.17 grams of cocaine, a Nokia phone and an iPhone. The bag was recovered from the roof, and inside was more than 25 grams of heroin separated into £10 and £20 deals, 38 bags of crack cocaine split into 0.96 gram deals, and £658.50 in cash. The total value of the drugs seized was estimated at £1,190. As officers went to search Miah's home, he became aggressive with them, saying: 'Shut the f*** off before I punch you in the head bro'. Analysis of Miah's Nokia phone showed evidence of 'various outgoing text bombs' advertising his availability for selling drugs. Miah, of Dolphin Street in Newport, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply heroin and crack cocaine. The teenager had three previous convictions for four offences, including for possession with intent to supply cocaine and supplying cannabis in 2024. The court heard that Miah was subject to a community order and a conditional discharge at the time of these latest offences. Thariq Miah was dealing drugs to fund his nitrous oxide addiction. (Image: Gwent Police) 'This is a classic street dealing case,' said Mr Williams, appearing for Miah. 'He was caught – albeit he threw the bag away – with wraps that were laid out for street supply. 'He knows he faces a prison sentence.' Mr Williams said Miah was addicted to nitrous oxide, and dealt drugs as he was unemployed and felt 'ashamed' of asking his family for money. 'He's a young man making poor decisions, but not in any way living a lavish lifestyle,' he said. 'Being in custody has made him reflect. He's let his parents down.' 'You are an established drug dealer,' said Judge Celia Hughes, addressing Miah. 'These drugs cause great distress to those addicted to them.' He was sentenced to 40 months detention – running concurrently – for each of the drug dealing offences, and a further five months for breaching his community order and conditional discharge.

Congress youth leader's house attacked after he criticises Tripura Govt, police for alleged inaction against clashes on Bakrid
Tripura Congress youth leader Shahjahan Miah's house in Agartala was attacked late Sunday after he criticised the state government and police for their alleged silence over a few incidents centring on alleged cow slaughter on Eid-al-Adha or Bakrid in the Gomati district Saturday. In a video on his social media page, Miah could be heard lashing out at the Tripura Government and the police for purportedly failing to stand up to those who allegedly interrupted the customary animal slaughter on Bakrid. He was also heard insulting Chief Minister Manik Saha, and calling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) minority leaders 'cheats', and urging Muslims to 'socially boycott' those from the community who are serving as leaders in the saffron party. His comments sparked controversy online, and several netizens, including BJP activists, demanded action against the Congress leader. The ruling BJP filed a complaint late Sunday at the East Agartala Police Station against Miah. After Miah's house in the Shantipara area of Agartala was attacked, the police soon rushed to the spot and tried to bring the situation under control. In his statement to the police, Miah said he was attacked by a band of goons as soon as he returned home from the Congress office. He also alleged that the attackers, who were purportedly brandishing firearms, wanted to kill him, but he locked himself inside a room. He said the group later assaulted his parents and wife. Congress Working Committee (CWC) member and MLA Sudip Roy Barman, Tripura state Congress president Ashish Kumar Saha, and others visited his house later. Roy Barman condemned the attack on Miah's house, and said he would seek justice from the court. 'He (Shahjahan) made a political attack on the chief minister in a Facebook live yesterday. He had an outburst over numerous incidents of attacks centring on Eid yesterday. Very rightly, these outbursts happened. But these attacks on his residence right next to a mosque speak volumes about how a fascist government is running in the state, led by the chief minister. There is no rule of law. These people who were seen involved in the attack on his residence tonight are all very close to him (CM). This incident must be in the knowledge of the CM. These are happening because he (CM) is indulging them,' Roy Barman said. He also demanded immediate arrest and legal action against those he claimed were involved in the attack on Miah's house. He said legal action would be initiated against everyone involved in such assaults, either now or later. Chief Minister Saha's family was ancestrally based at Shantipara. State Congress president Ashish Kumar Saha lives in the same area, and dropped Miah at his home on his way back from the party office last night. Sunday's incident came after clashes were reported on Bakrid, which was celebrated a day before, at different places in Udaipur in the Gomati district. Four people were detained for allegedly slaughtering a cow in public near a water body in the Chhanban area in Udaipur. A similar incident occurred in the Rajnagar area of Udaipur, where a minority family was accused of slaughtering a cow in the open. In a separate incident, a group of Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal activists intercepted a vehicle loaded with a few cattle, and handed them over to the West Agartala Police Station, suspecting that the animals were being illegally transported. However, the cattle owners claimed they had valid documents of sale and ownership. In February 2022, the Tripura High Court ordered the state government to prohibit the sale of meat products in public places and streets and said the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) should prepare a long-term plan for setting up abattoirs and slaughterhouses and ensuring the disposal of garbage appropriately and scientifically. The order, passed by Chief Justice Indrajit Mahanty and Justice SG Chattopadhyaya, came in response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Advocate Ankan Tilak Paul, and was preceded by AMC's decision to set up abattoirs or slaughter houses for handling animal slaughter for meat sale in the city. The Agartala civic body issued a notification prohibiting the slaughtering and sale of meat in the municipal area on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti. The municipal corporation also asked meat vendors to apply and get registered and necessary permission as part of he corporation's plan to stop uncontrolled public slaughtering of animals.

Police Visit 'Dangerous Dog,' Unprepared for What They Find
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A large dog was reported for being potentially "dangerous," but when police arrived, they weren't prepared to see what breed he actually is. Dog owner Jamal Miah was walking his dog, named Kenzo when the enormous pup got himself into some trouble. The excitable dog doesn't quite understand his size, so, when he got too close to an elderly woman walking her small dogs, he "accidentally knocked [her] over." As it were, Kenzo is no small Chihuahua, but rather, a Central Asian shepherd dog. The breed can be up to 27.5 inches tall at the shoulder and weigh as much as 110 pounds, according to the American Kennel Club, making Central Asian shepherd dogs incredibly strong and powerful. Despite Kenzo's size, Miah, from London, in the U.K., told Newsweek that his dog is "calm, friendly, and well socialized." He doesn't mean any harm, but his sheer size and weight means that accidents may occur. "The police were called several times in the past, mostly because of Kenzo's appearance," Miah said. "While he meant no harm, some members of the public overreacted and demanded that he be put down. "But Kenzo is truly a gentle giant. He used to get along well with other dogs until he was bitten by one—since then, he's become quite defensive around unfamiliar dogs," he continued. Kenzo the Central Asian shepherd dog walks on the sidewalk after police were called out in 2024. Kenzo the Central Asian shepherd dog walks on the sidewalk after police were called out in 2024. @jamalmiahomg / TikTok Kenzo still gets along swimmingly with Miah's other dog, Kane, however. Following the incident in 2024, police officers arrived to find out what happened and take a statement. Miah said they were "visibly shocked" by Kenzo's size, but, after observing the dog, they "quickly saw that he had a very calm temperament and was well-behaved." Newsweek contacted Kent Police officials who said they were contacted after a woman "was injured after being approached by a larger dog" in February 2024. A statement from Kent Police said: "The woman sustained minor injuries after falling to the ground. Officers attended and spoke to both dogs' owners. Inquiries were completed and a 44-year-old man from the local area was issued with a community resolution, requiring him to apologize to the woman and no longer use a long lead, of which the woman was made aware." This advice is also recommended by the AKC; their experts said that the breed must be contained when exercising, such as a fenced yard or on a leash. The breed is highly intelligent and independent, known for its fearlessness. Their natural protective instincts are second to none, which is why the AKC says Central Asian shepherd dogs are not for first-time dog owners. Miah posted about the experience on TikTok (@jamalmiahomg) in 2024 and reposted the clip again earlier this year. The reposted video went viral with over 1.5 million views and more than 65,000 likes on TikTok at the time of writing. The caption layered over the video reads, "Police visit dangerous dog Kenzo," while showing the pup gently approaching the two officers. The incident was a "difficult and stressful time" for Miah who felt a lot of negativity toward his dog's breed. Even now, he believes that people judge Kenzo based on his size, without taking the time to see what his temperament is like. "It felt like we were being publicly shamed for simply owning a large dog. Social media was especially harsh as we received a lot of negative attention," Miah told Newsweek. He continued: "I just want people to understand that it's not the breed—it's how you raise and handle the dog that matters. Kenzo is proof that with love, discipline, and proper training, even the most-powerful breeds can be calm, affectionate companions." After sharing the video on social media in April, the post has amassed over 1,700 comments online so far. One comment reads: "Big dogs do look intimidating but that's no reason to sentence them to this treatment." Another TikTok user wrote: "see what a difference a big dog is like in right hands." A third commenter added: "I have total respect for how this whole situation was handled. Kenzo is beautiful." Do you have funny and adorable videos or pictures of your pet you want to share?
