Cole Palmer ‘pretends to be stupid', claims Micah Richards as he lifts lid on what Chelsea star is really like

COLE PALMER pretends to be stupid but he is actually "very clever", according to Micah Richards. The Chelsea star has built a reputation for his occasional silly answers in interviews. 2 2 His carefree attitude has helped endear himself to fans but Richards believes it is all an act, and Gary Lineker agrees. The pair discussed Palmer on The Rest is Football podcast after finding his interaction with incoming Chelsea star Estevao amusing. Palmer revealed he told the Palmeiras player that he was looking forward to welcoming him to Stamford Bridge, before acknowledging the fact the Brazilian probably did not understand what he was saying. Lineker said of the England international: "There's something about Cole Palmer. "You used to think 'oh maybe he is a bit dim' but he is actually not. He's clever. "He comes across very likeable. He is so matter-of-fact in his answers that he actually speaks as he thinks. Richards agreed with his colleague, adding: "Very clever. He knows what he is doing. He is very witty. "He's like Grealish. They pretend they are stupid but they are really not. "They know exactly what they are doing. Cole Palmer is exactly the same." Just last week Palmer, 23, left fans speechless after starring in a new advert for Nike. Winger Estevao and Palmer are tipped to be the faces of Chelsea's future and the pair shared a brief embrace after the game with cameras catching the moment Palmer tried to strike up a conversation. Despite the language barrier the light-hearted moment highlights the warm welcome Chelsea's current stars are ready to offer the Brazilian wonderkid when he arrives for pre-season.

Match of the Day pundit pinpoints CBS contrast – 'It'd never happen at the BBC'

Former England defender and Match of the Day star Micah Richards has shed light on a key cultural difference between the BBC and American network CBS, which he covers the Champions League for Match of the Day's Micah Richards has opened up about a 'mad' party thrown in his honour by network CBS the night before the Champions League final. The ex-England star admitted that the BBC would never plan such an event. Richards, who retired in 2019 and immediately transitioned into punditry, provides insight across various platforms. He has starred on Match of the Day and brought laughter to Sky Sports ' coverage of the Premier League. CBS began broadcasting European football five years ago, introducing him to an American audience. ‌ While working for stateside employers, Richards has made it clear that culturally, things differ from appearing for the BBC, which operates under a Royal Charter and is, therefore, a public corporation funded primarily by TV license fees. ‌ Operating for the public good means the historically revered Beeb holds itself to incredibly high standards, and coverage of the FA Cup and World Cup, for example, is no exception. The 36-year-old has now illuminated a huge difference between the British broadcaster and the US-based CBS, epitomised by a party thrown the night before last month's Champions League final. "We got there, the sun is shining. I was drinking until about four o'clock in the morning on the Thursday night. Friday night, CBS only threw me my own party!" a bewildered Richards told Gary Lineker and Match of the Day colleague Alan Shearer on The Rest Is Football podcast. "Bearing in mind we've got the Champions League final on the Saturday night and I've been hanging for weeks before that as well. Imagine us at the Beeb throwing a party the night before, say, the FA Cup final or the World Cup final. "It would never, ever happen. CBS just embrace it. I got there thinking it's just a CBS party. I get there, the big massive flyer says: 'Big Meeks' Party.' It was madness." ‌ While cultural differences would likely prevent the BBC from allowing its staff to indulge in such revelries and borderline unprofessionalism, CBS' Champions League final broadcast went off without a hitch. Richards appeared alongside presenter Kate Scott and fellow ex-pros Thierry Henry and Jamie Carragher. Actor Tom Cruise and David Beckham were also part of the build-up to the kick-off in Munich. Yet, Richards' path to the German capital was not without its tribulations, and he detailed that a fear of flying made for an awkward journey. ‌ "For those who don't know, I don't like flying. So, me, the absolute idiot, decides to look at a route from Harrogate all the way to Munich," he continued. "I thought, 'Ok, if I get to London, it's not gonna be too bad.' So I get to London, which is three hours door to door. "Then I went to get the train from London, and it was supposed to go to Brussels. It got cancelled, so now I'm sweating, thinking what I could possibly do! I'm scrambling on my apps. "I went from London to Paris, then I had to wait a couple of hours. Paris to Stuttgart. Had to wait a couple hours, then Stuttgart to Munich, and when I got there, I was absolutely exhausted."

‘I'm going to Hollywood' – Micah Richards opens up on Tom Cruise acting class before Alan Shearer shuts down film dream

MICAH RICHARDS has opened up on his impromptu acting lesson with Hollywood legend Tom Cruise. Richards, 36, found himself rubbing shoulders with the acting icon as part of CBS' Champions League final coverage on their new show 'Beckham and Friends'. The new show throws together David Beckham and his A-list pals with the CBS football regulars such as Richards, Kate Abdo, Thierry Henry and Jamie Carragher. And when Tom Cruise joined the crew for PSG's dominant 5-0 thrashing of Inter Milan in the Champions League final, the Mission Impossible star took the time to lend some acting tips to Richards. Former Man City and England ace Richards cheekily asked Cruise if he would help him learn how to play sad, a contrast to his usually energetic personality. And the four-time Oscar nominee made sure to give him his best advice, telling Richards to bow his head and look down to achieve his best sad look. Now Richards has opened up on the unbelievable moment while chatting to Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer on the Rest is Football podcast - telling them he reckons he has what it takes to hit the silver screen. He said: "[Cruise told me to] put your head down a little bit, lower your eyes, chin down. "And I nailed it! I nailed it guys, I'm going to Hollywood!" Lineker joked: "I'm starting to cry, Micah. It's so real". 5 5 Before Shearer brought Richards crashing back down to earth, telling him he's too jolly to play sad. He added: "You can't do sad! You're the happiest man in the world". Lineker, Richards and Shearer aren't all laughs and jokes, with the trio recently landing a major deal for their popular podcast. Lineker, who has stepped down from the BBC, has now agreed a deal with DAZN that will see the podcast broadcast highlights of the upcoming Club World Cup. The show will air the best bits from matches in the video version of the podcast. DAZN chief Pete Oliver said: "The Rest Is Football is essential viewing and listening for fans who want insight, entertainment, and personality. "This partnership is a brilliant way to bring the Fifa Club World Cup even closer to that audience. 'It's about connecting global football with the voices fans trust and love, and showing the tournament in a fresh, exciting, and authentically British way.' The revamped Club World Cup begins on June 15 and is being held in the US, featuring teams like Real Madrid, Man City, Chelsea and Inter Miami. 5
