Ireland to host China in Davis Cup at Sport Ireland Campus

Tennis Ireland have announced that they will host the Davis Cup World Group II tie against China at the Sport Ireland Campus in September. Ireland's top players will compete against the Chinese team in a bid to advance in the world's premier men's team tennis event. The winner of the tie will compete in the 2026 World Group Play-offs, while the losing nation will compete in a World Group II Play-off in 2026. Ireland secured their place in the World Group II draw with an impressive performance against Saudi Arabia in February. The Irish team of Michael Agwi, Osgar O'hOisin, Ammar Elamin, Freddy Murray and David O'Hare claimed a 5-0 victory in Riyadh, a result which saw them climb six places in the world rankings to 46th place. China currently sit in 62nd. Kevin Quinn, CEO of Tennis Ireland welcomed today's announcement and said: "Bringing the Davis Cup to the Sport Ireland Campus is a huge moment for Irish tennis. "Not only does it give our players the chance to compete in front of a home crowd, but it also showcases Ireland's ability to host elite-level international competition. We are proud to welcome PR China and look forward to an electric atmosphere this September." Sport Ireland CEO Dr Úna May also hailed the news and said: "The Sport Ireland Campus has a proud history of hosting world-class sporting events, and we're excited to add the Davis Cup to that legacy this year as we welcome it for the first time. "Bringing a major international tennis tournament to Ireland marks another significant achievement for us, and we look forward to welcoming Irish and Chinese tennis fans to the Campus."
