Leading Australian post-production firm collapses

The Australia-based firm behind the post-production of hits such as Aquaman, Pirates of the Caribbean and Thirteen Lives has fallen into liquidation. Cutting Edge Post, which has offices in Brisbane, Sydney and the Gold Coast, announced on July 3 that the company would no longer be operating. The production house offered sound and picture services for the advertising, films and TV nationally and across the world, including Hollywood. 'To all our valued clients and supporters, we would like to inform you that after 35 years Cutting Edge Post has officially ceased operations,' it said on social media. According to the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), the decision to send the firm into liquidation was made at a general meeting on June 27. It has since been revealed the company owed $3.7 million, of which $2.4 million is owed to 62 staff across Australia. In documents submitted to ASIC, the debt to staff included $951,680 in redundancy entitlements, $581,649 in annual leave, $484,230 in long service leave and $77,884 in wages, The Herald Sun reported. The report listed other creditors, among whom are the Australian Tax Office which is owed $389,176 and Commonwealth Bank of Australia which is due $25,166. A total of $182,990 in the form of a term loan is listed for the Queensland Rural and Industry Development Authority, while it is indebted to trade creditors by $81,633. Company director Michael Burton said in the report that 20 trade debtors owed his company a total of $702,243 on top of $35,032 for related party loans. Regarding the firm's current financial state, he said it possessed just over $1 million across its assets. This was made up of $848,024 in fit-outs and $236,500 in bank accounts with the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. William Paul Cotter, from Robson Cotter Insolvency Group, has been appointed as liquidator and has been contacted for comment, as has Cutting Edge Post.

Broncos roster: FB Michael Burton (No. 20) does the dirty work on offense

Broncos roster: FB Michael Burton (No. 20) does the dirty work on offense Broncos Wire's 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at 11th-year fullback Michael Burton, No. 20. Before the Broncos: Burton (6-0, 247 pounds) is a big-bodied protector in the backfield, who bounced around the league for the first 10 years of his career. Burton began his career when he was selected in the fifth round (168th overall) in the 2015 NFL draft by the Detroit Lions, where he spent the first two years of his career. Burton then moved south, staying in the NFC North, with the Chicago Bears from 2017-18. In 2019, Burton spent a season in Washington, D.C., before going to the New Orleans Saints in 2021. Burton finally reached the pinnacle of the NFL, spending two seasons in Kansas City, where he won a Super Bowl in 2022. Burton then came to the Broncos in 2023. Prior to his time in Denver, Burton rushed 28 times for 62 yards and a touchdown and caught 18 passes for 123 yards and a touchdown. Broncos tenure: Burton signed a one-year deal in 2023, and he returned on another one-year deal in 2024. Used primarily as a blocker on offense, Burton is an unsung hero as a lead blocker and pass protector. He is also a key player in the kicking game, playing 294 snaps on special teams last fall. And while it's not common, Burton does get touches on offense as well. He picked up six first downs last season, rushing seven times for eight yards and a touchdown while adding 10 receptions for 65 yards and a score. Burton re-signed with the Broncos in March on another one-year deal worth. Chances to make the 53-man roster: Likely. As the Broncos' only true fullback, Burton provides pass-blocking security and an outlet for quarterback Bo Nix from the backfield, and he's a key player on special teams. Unless the team plans to convert tight end Nate Adkins to a full-time fullback role, Burton's roster spot should be safe. Related: These 25 celebrities are Broncos fans.

Broncos re-sign another in-house free agent

Broncos re-sign another in-house free agent The Denver Broncos have re-signed fullback Michael Burton, according to a report from the Denver Post's Luca Evans. It's another one-year deal for the veteran. Burton (5-11, 247 pounds) originally entered the league as a fifth-round draft pick out of Rutgers with the Detroit Lions in 2015. He went on to spend time with four other NFL teams before landing with the Broncos in 2023. Used primarily as a blocker, the 33-year-old fullback has rushed 14 times for 17 yards, seven first downs and one touchdown over the last two seasons in Denver. He also has 13 receptions for 73 yards, five first downs and one score as a receiver out of the backfield. Last season, Burton played 175 of the Broncos' offensive snaps (16%) and 294 of the special teams snaps (62%). He will likely have a similar role this fall. Denver also has tight end/fullback hybrid Nate Adkins returning for the 2025 season. Burton's resume includes a Super Bowl win with the Kansas City Chiefs and a Pro Bowl alternate selection with the Broncos last season. Only 3 Broncos free agents remain unsigned

Only 3 Broncos free agents remain unsigned And then there were three. The list of in-house Denver Broncos free agents who remain unsigned shrunk by one player after wide receiver Lil'Jordan Humphrey signed with the New York Giants on Friday. Denver's only remaining unsigned free agents now are fullback Michael Burton, backup offensive lineman Quinn Bailey and inside linebacker Zach Cunningham. Burton, 33, has been the team's fullback for the last two years and there have been rumblings that he's expected to return for the 2025 campaign. Bailey, 29, has been with the team since 2019 and he dressed for 25 games from 2022-2023 as a backup swing tackle/guard used as an extra blocker in jumbo formations. He also started two games as an injury fill-in. Bailey suffered a serious ankle injury last summer and he spent the 2024 season on injured reserve. Cunningham, 30, joined the team after Alex Singleton was lost a torn ACL last season, but he seems unlikely to return after failing to make an impact at ILB in 2024. Could St. Louis secede and be the 51st state? Missouri lawmaker proposes idea

MISSOURI — A Missouri lawmaker called for making St. Louis, St. Louis County, and St. Charles County the 51st state during a debate last week regarding the state takeover of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police. State Rep. Michael Burton, D-Lakeshire, suggested the city and two counties secede from the state and directed his argument at the Republican side of the chamber, stating, 'We subsidize your counties.' Officer hit by vehicle on I-70, rushed to hospital: Police 'Maybe we can just keep all that tax revenue in St. Louis, and can you imagine how great St. Louis would be if we just kept our own tax dollars?' Burton said in a video posted by our partners at the Post-Dispatch. According to the Post-Dispatch, Burton has not officially filed legislation regarding his proposal, but said he's asked the House staff to 'put something together' that would allegedly make St. Louis City, St. Louis County, and St. Charles County the 51st state of the U.S. 'I agree with President Trump. Maybe we should have a 51st state. I just don't think it should be Canada,' Burton said while on the House floor. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. An Indiana House committee has advanced a bill that would adopt several Illinois counties that have proposed seceding from the state. Illinois voters who support the proposal argue that Chicago and Cook County hold a large sway in policies that do not align with their priorities as rural residents. According to the 2020 census, the three jurisdictions made up about 27% of the state's population and would currently rank 40th among all states 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
