Why James Remar Doesn't Believe His 'Sex and the City 'Character Was the Worst Boyfriend on the Show' '(Exclusive)

James Remar exclusively told PEOPLE at the Dexter: Resurrection world premiere on July 9 that his Sex and the City character, Richard, was 'the best boyfriend on the show' Remar, 71, played Samantha's on-again, off-again beau The actor also discussed whether he would ever consider returning to the Sex and the City franchiseJames Remar doesn't think his Sex and the City character, Richard, was the worst boyfriend on the show — despite what some fans may say. Remar spoke to PEOPLE exclusively while attending the Dexter: Resurrection world premiere at Alice Tully Hall in New York City on July 9. During the conversation, the actor revealed his thoughts on the on-again, off-again relationship between Richard and Samantha, played by Kim Cattrall. 'I'm the best boyfriend on the show,' says Remar, 71, who then recalled a talk between him and Michael Patrick King, a series writer and director. 'I said, 'How come you dissolved our relationship? It's like we were the two that were the best for each other.' And he said, 'We only introduce love on this show to have it fail,' ' Remar adds. 'So at least he said that there was love there,' he continues. 'And he said, 'But it failed and you're not coming back.' ' When asked if he would ever consider returning to the series, Remar said he'd honestly be pretty surprised if he'd be asked back. 'I am sure it'll be difficult to say no, but I'm an old guy. They're not going to call me,' he says. The Oppenheimer actor recently reprised his role as Harry Morgan — Dexter's late adoptive father — on the Dexter reboot series, Dexter: Resurrection. While speaking about the role, Remer said it's 'totally new and completely different at the same time.' Hall] has always been a privilege and a very, very intense experience because he's so focused and so precise that you have to bring your best, you have to bring your A game. You can't fool around and flub your lines and do stupid stuff,' he says. 'When you're working with Michael C. Hall, you got to know your lines and you got to do the right thing because he always does, and he's doing it every single scene. And I come in and do a scene. I go home and Mike's there all the time. So that part hasn't changed,' he says. The PEOPLE Puzzler crossword is here! How quickly can you solve it? Play now! 'The surrounding venue, I mean, we're in New York City, so that's very different,' he continues, referring to the fact that the original series took place in Miami and was filmed in L.A. He also added that both he and Hall have allowed their characters' relationship 'to evolve' in the new installment. Read the original article on People

The Emmys have one last chance to make things right with ‘The Comeback'

If at first you don't succeed (at the Emmys), try, try again. HBO has renewed The Comeback, from Emmy winners Lisa Kudrow (Friends) and Michael Patrick King (Sex and the City), for a third and — the network swears — final season, the network announced Friday. It has been 20 years since the first season debuted in 2005, and 11 years since Season 2 aired in 2014. More from Gold Derby Marge lives! Here are 3 other 'Simpsons' characters that returned from the grave - and 3 who stayed dead Fast cars vs. killer dolls: 'F1,' 'M3GAN 2.0' gear up for box-office showdown Season 3 of the comedy series will begin production this summer with returning cast members Kudrow as Valerie Cherish, a washed-up actress who's now the subject of a documentary; Dan Bucatinsky as Billy Stanton, Valerie's publicist; Laura Silverman as Jane Benson, Valerie's producer; and Damian Young as Mark Berman, Valerie's husband. The new season will air on HBO and stream on HBO Max in 2026. The Comeback is one of those that shows that TV fans often cite as being "robbed" at the Emmy Awards. Meaning it never took home a trophy in any category, and only received four total nominations. Season 1 scored three bids — for Kudrow in Best Comedy Actress, King in Best Comedy Directing, and Best Comedy Casting — while Season 2 nabbed a single Best Comedy Actress citation. It was snubbed both times in the Best Comedy Series lineup. But other awards bodies were just as guilty when it came to ignoring The Comeback. The Golden Globes blanked the show completely, and the Critics Choice Awards (which were created in between the first and second seasons), only gave Kudrow a nomination. The Comeback's only victories came from the lesser-known kudos like the Gracies, the GALECA Awards, and the International Online Cinema Awards. Our Gold Derby TV Awards were somewhat kinder, honoring The Comeback with six overall nominations, including a Best Comedy Series bid for Season 2; however, the show was shut out. Sometimes it takes awards voters a season or two to catch on to audience favorites. Remember when the Emmys didn't truly discover Will & Grace, Fleabag, or Succession until their second seasons? And then there's Schitt's Creek, which wasn't fully embraced by the Television Academy until its sixth and final season. Of course, historically lauded shows like Better Call Saul, The Good Place, and The Wire never won Emmys at all, despite the love from critics and fans. So, The Comeback would be in good company if its final episodes fail to materialize into award wins. Neither King nor Kudrow is shocked that The Comeback is returning for a third time. "Valerie Cherish has found her way back to the current television landscape," they said jointly. "Neither of us are surprised she did." "No matter what the industry throws at her, Valerie Cherish is a survivor," said Amy Gravitt, executive vice president of HBO's comedy programming. "On the 20th anniversary of her debut, Michael Patrick King and Lisa Kudrow have brilliantly scripted her return to HBO and we can't wait to see that." Iconic HBO Cringe Comedy Coming Back for Final Season—12 Years Later

Valerie Cherish is ready for her big comeback—again. In 2005, one year after Friends ended its legendary 10-season run on NBC, Lisa Kudrow and Sex and the City creator Michael Patrick King premiered what would become one of HBO's most iconic cringe comedies: The Comeback. And now it's living up to its name with a surprise announcement that the show is coming back for a third and final season in series, a mockumentary-style satire of Hollywood and the challenges aging actresses face, stars Kudrow as Valerie Cherish, the one-time star of a mildly popular early '90s sitcom, who lands a new role as 'Aunt Sassy' on Room and Bored. At the same time, she agrees to star in a reality show about her return to the spotlight—to disastrous results. Though the series was given a much-coveted Sunday night time slot, airing right after the then-hugely popular Entourage, it failed to attract many viewers and was tragically canceled after just one season. Fortunately, comedy fans eventually caught on to the series' utter brilliance, and it has continued to gain a loyal following in the decades since. In 2014, The Comeback aired a second season, which took a meta approach to the first season's material and saw Cherish starring as a fictionalized version of herself in a new HBO series about the TV producer who made her life hell on Room and Bored. Not much is known about the plot of the upcoming third season, which will air in 2026. But Amy Gravitt, HBO & Max Comedy Programming's EVP, promises that: 'No matter what the industry throws at her, Valerie Cherish is a survivor. On the 20th Anniversary of her debut, Michael Patrick King and Lisa Kudrow have brilliantly scripted her return to HBO and we can't wait to see that.' 'Valerie Cherish has found her way back to the current television landscape,' said Kudrow and King in a statement. 'Neither of us are surprised she did.' Attention, Valerie Cherish Stans! ‘The Comeback' Is, Well, Coming Back

As if new the new Lorde album weren't enough, this particular Friday yielded even more good news: the long-awaited third season of Lisa Kudrow and Michael Patrick King's cult-classic HBO comedy The Comeback is coming. The show is set to resume filming later this summer, with the new season slated to air sometime in 2026. Watch the first teaser below: There's not a ton to be gleaned from this 60-second promo for the show, but so far I can attest that 1) Lisa Kudrow has aged better than anyone else in Hollywood (with the possible exception of Meryl Streep), 2) Kudrow's washed-up actress character Valerie Cherish's new show will be known as How's That?, which is up there with her first sitcom, I'm It, in terms of having a terrible-slash-great Hollywood title, and 3) thank God, Laura Silverman is back as Jane, Valerie's long-suffering reality producer, who won an Oscar for a documentary about 'lesbians during the Holocaust' that she now uses as a doorstop at her isolated compound outside LA, where she smokes weed and makes goat butter. (Yes, I'm jealous—of the lifestyle, not the Oscar.) I pray that Valerie's husband Mark (Damian Young)—better known as 'Marky Mark' or 'Loveball'—and, of course, her esteemed hairstylist and longtime companion Mickey (Robert Michael Morris) will be returning for Season 3 of The Comeback, too, but then again, who am I to make demands? I'm just so, so happy that this wonderful, weird little show is returning now that I, too, live in Los Angeles and am actually in a position to understand its various in-jokes about power lunches at the Ivy and going shopping on Montana.

The Friends veteran confirmed the news herself in a statement on Friday, and is returning with the show's co-creator Michael Patrick King, who is currently responsible for And Just Like That. 'Valerie Cherish has found her way back to the current television landscape. Neither of us are surprised she did,' Kudrow and Michael Patrick King said in a statement. HBO's Amy Gravitt added: 'No matter what the industry throws at her, Valerie Cherish is a survivor.
