Former standout Alabama forward reportedly waived by NBA team

According to a recent report from HoopsHype's Michael Scotto, former Alabama Crimson Tide forward Alex Reese has been waived by the Philadelphia 76ers. Reese being waived is reportedly the Sixers' corresponding move after the team signed forward Dominick Barlow to a two-way contract, a signing that was reported Wednesday by ESPN's Shams Charania. Making his NBA debut last season, Reese appeared in 14 games off Philadelphia's bench a year ago in which the former Alabama forward averaged 5.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per game on 47.2% shooting from the field. Reese also shot 36.6% from three with Philadelphia, as well as 75% at the free throw line. During the 2024-25 season, Reese also appeared in a game with the eventual NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder, while also seeing time in the NBA G League. Details on Adou Thiero's rookie contract with the Lakers

During the second round of last month's NBA draft, the Los Angeles Lakers turned the No. 55 pick into the draft rights to University of Arkansas forward Adou Thiero by making two trades. Thiero's offensive game is a work in progress, but he has the athleticism and defensive ability to help them very soon. At 6-foot-8, he's the type of athletic wing the Lakers haven't had in quite some time. He officially signed his Lakers contract on Sunday, and fans are looking forward to seeing him play in a Purple and Gold jersey. Advertisement According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, Thiero's contract is for three years and $5.95 million. The third year of the deal is a player option. Thiero, who was the No. 36 pick in the draft, averaged 15.1 points and 5.8 rebounds a game while shooting 54.5% from the field and 25.6% from 3-point range this past season. He will not participate in summer league play because of a knee injury he suffered a few months ago. Pelicans declining team option on assists-per-minute leader

The post Pelicans declining team option on assists-per-minute leader appeared first on ClutchPoints. The New Orleans Pelicans are declining a team option on their assists-per-minute leader ahead of free agency. New Orleans is coming off a dismal season, recording just 21 wins in the Western Conference, which should be even more competitive next year. The roster is undergoing significant changes, having already traded Brandon Ingram and recently traded CJ McCollum, while adding several new pieces in the draft. Advertisement This franchise, however, appears to be moving on from a key player from last year. Senior NBA Insider Michael Scotto confirmed the latest report. 'New Orleans Pelicans will decline the $3.15 million team option on Elfrid Payton, sources told @hoopshype. Payton led the NBA in assists per minute this season (.33) per @statmuse ahead of Trae Young (.32) and Nikola Jokic (.28). Payton is expected to have interest in free agency.' The 31-year-old has worked his way back to the NBA after a few years in the G-League. Payton has been a pro for over a decade and continually showcased his talents as an excellent playmaker. Meanwhile, New Orleans is bringing in Oklahoma standout Jeremiah Fears, who is expected to be the new floor general. The No. 7 pick is an incredible talent at the position, possessing the skillset to become an All-Star in the near future. New Orleans also made the bold decision to trade an unprotected first-round Big Ten Freshman of the Year Derik Queen at No. 13, while also drafting First-team All-Big East forward Micah Peavy with the No. 40 overall pick. All three of these players have the ability to contribute right away, and they'll need to if the Pelicans want to make it back to the postseason. Advertisement Of course, there is the looming shadow of Zion Williamson's health status, but even outside of the forward, the roster has enough talent to increase its win total significantly. It won't be easy in the West, especially with several teams, such as the San Antonio Spurs and Portland Trail Blazers, who were not even in the Play-In this past season, now expecting to contend for postseason slots in the 2025-26 season. And should Payton leave, someone will have to step up, as this roster continues to go through a youth movement. There are still plenty of reasons for fans to be excited despite the recent disappointment. Report: Lakers, Cavaliers, Knicks, Nuggets pursuing Boston Celtics big Al Horford

The Boston Celtics newly thin frontcourt rotation might be about to get even thinner, with rumbles that several teams have emerged as potential suitors for veteran Celtics forward Al Horford. Per senior reporter Michael Scotto of our sister site HoopsHype, the University of Florida alum "has received interest from several contending teams since the start of free agency." Previously, it had been reported that the Golden State Warriors were targeting the Dominican big man. That list grows with the HoopsHype reporter adding the Cleveland Cavaliers, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, and Denver Nuggets to the list of aspiring contenders hoping to pry Horford away from Boston this offseason. Earlier in the first day of the league's 2025 free agency period, the Celtics lost backup big man Luke Kornet to the San Antonio Spurs on a four-year, $41 million deal, signing deep rotation center Luka Garza to help shore up the loss. At present, Boston only has Garza, Neemias Queta, and Xavier Tillman Sr. under contract as bigs with actual NBA playing experience.

Report: Nets extend $5.99 million QO to Cam Thomas to make him RFA

The Brooklyn Nets had to make some tough decisions to begin the offseason as they had to decide which players they would be relying on from the 2025 NBA Draft. Brooklyn already made some decisions that will affect the rest of the roster by waiving forward Maxwell Lewis, and they continued to make some key choices with an important deadline coming up. HoopsHype NBA insider Michael Scotto reported on Sunday that the Nets extended a $5.99 million qualifying offer to guard Cam Thomas, officially making a restricted free-agent heading into the 2025 offseason. Now that Thomas is a restricted free-agent, Brooklyn has the right to match any offer sheet that any other team offers him in free-agency as teams might seek his scoring talents for next season. Advertisement Thomas, 23, is coming off a 2024-25 season in which he averaged 24.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game while shooting 43.8% from the field and 34.9% from three-point land. However, Thomas heads into free-agency having played just 25 games last season as he dealt with multiple bouts of a left hamstring strain, the last of which ended his season in March. There have been various reports concerning Thomas and how much money he is expected to command in free-agency during a summer in which most NBA teams don't have much money to spend on free-agents. Per NetsDaily, Thomas is expected to command around $25 million per season in free-agency, whether that comes from the Nets or from another team via an offer sheet. Thomas should command plenty of attention in free-agency as he is regarded as one of the better free-agents on the market while having a scoring talent that every team can use on the floor. The Nets would be able to offer Thomas a contract around $25 million per year and if Brooklyn feels as committed to Thomas as he does to them, he should have a new deal coming sometime soon.
