Kylie Jenner Took Summer's Polka Dot Nail Trend to the Next Level
Getty Images Leave it to Kylie Jenner to take summer's polka dot nail art trend to a whole 'nother level. The reality star and Kylie Cosmetics founder, known for her glamorous approach to all things hair, makeup, and style, combined the classic dotted style with two more nail trends for something that feels 100 percent Kylie. Jenner has been enjoying a European vacation with friends and her children, Stormi and Aire (did you catch her adorable GWRM video with Stormi?), and, well, you can't enjoy the summer sunshine without a manicure to match! Jenner worked with London-based manicurist Michelle Humphrey on her latest set, and Humphrey didn't just decorate Jenner's nails with medium-sized polka dots atop a sheer base—she mixed them up with a white-tipped French manicure and gave the dots a shiny finish for a little extra pizzazz. Jenner's nails were filed into a long oval shape and painted with a sheer base, like the one you'd typically get with a French manicure. Humphrey then added the signature white tips of a French, but she and Jenner didn't stop there! Instead of regular polish dots, the two went for something with a bit more sparkle factor: chrome-finish metallic dots scattered all over the nail, including atop the white tips! Jenner wrote that she was 'obsessed' with the set and I am too. It manages to be both subtle and glam at the same time, so you could easily wear it to work or for a wedding or summer party and it would fit right in. The Kylie Cosmetics founder has been back into nail art this year, including with a snakeskin-printed set that would have been right at home on King Kylie Tumblr and the sweetest studded pastel French manicure. TBH, I often reference her tiny bug-themed manicure from last summer, which was so adorable and so out of character. (Those lime-green tips!) What's next for Jenner and her nail art? You know I'm paying attention. More fun celebrity manis: Megan Thee Stallion's Nails Are the Equivalent of Christian Louboutin Stilettos You Could Play "I Spy" with J. Butter Yellow Is Summer's Trendiest Shade—Here Are 4 Nail Looks to Try
Every item on this page was chosen by an ELLE editor. We may earn commission on some of the items you choose to buy. Now that summer is here, our seasonal beauty switch-ups are officially in motion, starting with the arrival of joyful, butter yellow manicures. Whether it's a layer of glossy soft yellow polish or a minimalist spring-inspired design, the options are endless when it comes to sunny nail ideas—it's simply a matter of choosing your style. Consider what type of manicure you'd like to sport this summer. Classic polish allows you to switch up your design (not to mention try new nail art techniques at home), while a gel formula offers longevity for those looking for a longer-lasting mani. For ultimate durability, opt for acrylics, which are perfect for a long-haul trip, or try BIAB (Builder in a Bottle) to encourage strength and new length for weakened tips. Here, we've rounded up the best buttery nail designs and manicure ideas for summer, including fancy French tips and playful aura nails. You can add an elegant sheen to any classic manicure using chrome, but this summer it's best placed over a sunshine yellow French tip. 'Begin by painting one coat of your desired base shade (I'm a huge fan of Essie Gel Couture in Sheer Fantasy),' explains nail artist and Essie ambassador Michelle Humphrey. 'Paint your French tip—this can be white, or any color! For warmer days, you might want to opt for a brighter shade like lilac, matcha green, or yellow.' To finish, apply either a chrome top coat (or chrome powder with a clear top coat) to add a finishing metallic glaze to your mani. So chic and so modern. Florals for spring-summer may seem cliché, but we assure you, these delicate designs couldn't be more trendy. 'Start by applying your desired base shade; sheer nudes always look beautiful, but you can choose any color you like. Soft sorbet shades would also be dreamy for this look,' says Humphrey. 'Use a dotting tool or a bobby pin to create a small circle of five white dots, then create the center of the flower by adding one more yellow dot. Tip: Be sure to clean the tool regularly to prevent the polish from drying and the dots becoming uneven. You can have several flowers or just one on the nail—the options are limitless!' Trendy but never childish, these airbrushed tips have been making the rounds since 2023, retaining their popularity thanks to an easy-to-replicate design and versatile set of colors. This summer, they're worn best in bright yellows and vibrant oranges. Think sunset shades. 'Paint your nails in your desired shades—I love choosing bright pastels on each nail,' says Humphrey. 'Apply a matte top coat and allow it to thoroughly dry. Grab any eyeshadow palette. Using an eyeshadow applicator sponge, gently buff the eyeshadow into the nail where you'd like your aura.' Complete on all nails, then apply a glossy top coat for that high-shine professional finish. Gingham has long been hailed as the official fabric of summer, but did you know it also looks incredibly chic when adorned over bare nails? Better yet, match your manicure to your lightweight summer wardrobe. While we're huge fans of an at-home nail design, we're the first to admit that this idea is far from beginner-friendly. Save this detailed inspiration for your in-salon appointment, whether that's an acrylic set to last well beyond the heat wave, or a classic gel manicure that won't smear and smudge throughout the week.

7 Of The Coolest Nail Colours To Wear This Summer
Come rain or shine, there's little doubt that finding the best summer nail colours for your manicure can make an impactful difference to your mood. But just when you think it's time to let go of winter's moody wine tones, A-list manicurists are re-assuring us that a deep fig will always look elegant no matter the season... If you are looking for a lighter switch-up, butter yellow nails are here to stay, as is green nails - this time in a calming shade of milky matcha that feels grown-up and elevated. Spring's baby blue manicures still feel fresh, but as manicurist Michelle Humphrey shares below, do consider cool blueberry tones for a summery twist. Ahead, the best nail colours to try this summer... There's a satisfying, delicious smoothness to pastel butter yellow that is catnip for the fashion crowd, and beauty is following suit. 'It's giving sunshine in a bottle!' says manicurist Michelle Humphrey. 'Soft, creamy, and way more flattering than people think, try Essie Rev It Up for a bolder take and Atelier At The Bay which is more muted,' she recommends. Green nails are always on the summer mood board for their fresh, crisp appeal but Humphrey is a fan of the more elegant matcha green, which she describes as 'earthy, calming, and chic.' Instead of oceanic blues, try a cool-toned blue, suggests Humphrey. 'Think periwinkle, indigo, and soft purples. I'm reaching for Essie Orchid Jelly and Dress Call!' she tells ELLE UK. 'Bright pinks and corals are a go-to for me—they're bold, energetic, and just scream summer fun,' says nail artist Tinu Bello, who's done manicures for major stars such as Letitia Wright and Michaela Coel. 'Think vibrant fuchsia or punchy watermelon tones that instantly lift your mood and add a pop of colour to any look.' Bello namechecks Mylee Bubblegum Gel Nail Wraps and Mylee Be Yourself Gel Nail Wraps as her current favourites. According to Humphrey, clients often shy away from a salmony tone like apricot, but it's worth considering if you're looking for a lighter, more understated alternative the aforementioned hot pink or bright yellow. 'It's not the easiest shade to wear, and I hardly ever get requests for it, but apricot nails are truly stunning,' she says. A warm undertone can truly bring out your natural tan or you can ease into the trend with peachy French tips. Don't save your deeper tones just for winter. 'I'd love to see more people embrace moody brights and inky shades during summer, like rich teal or fig,' says Bello. 'There's a misconception that dark or muted colours are just for autumn, but when you choose versions with a luminous or juicy finish, they actually pop beautifully in summer light.' Similarly, you don't have to stash away the sparkle until Christmas time. Metallic silvers are popular on the SS25 runways. They shine brilliantly in the sunshine and are perfect for summer festivals. ELLE Collective is a new community of fashion, beauty and culture lovers. ‘Oat milk nails' will be the next big trend, says this celebrity manicurist
Nail trends can be hard to keep atop of and, as the seasons shift, today's must-have style can quickly become yesterday's news. Take Valentine's Day nails, for instance; they're fun and cutesy for the first two weeks of February, but once the big day comes and goes those red French tips and heart-stamped manis get old pretty fast. Now, with spring on the horizon, we're waving goodbye to our icy blue or red shades and welcoming in a new host of hues, from floral-inspired pinks to pastel greens and butter yellows. For Michelle Humphrey, nail artist to Dua Lipa, Katy Perry and Kylie Minogue (to name but a few), spring 2025 is set to be the season for oat milk nails. The style, Humphrey told The Independent, that that milky tones is a shift 'from the usual soap nails, lip gloss nude or pink shade' we've been asking for and, rather, 'adds a lovely soft brightness to the nail'. The question is, what exactly are oat milk nails? The key to oat milk nails, explains Humphrey, is choosing a polish within a shade that's (you guessed it) 'milky white – think sheer oat milk. Sheer white has been super popular of late.' And, for those of you wondering what to ask your nail techs, Humphrey got granular with us, revealing that she recommends two particular varnishes to achieve her desired milky translucency: Essie allure (£8.95, for regular nail polish users or, for gel getters, Bio Sculpture's Donna as shown in nail tech Mateja Novokić's (Instagram's @matejanova) below. When it comes to nail length and shape, Humphrey disclosed that this too is something that's set to change as temperatures begin to climb. Noting that many of her 'A-list clients have ditched the extensions for shorter, more natural lengths', advising that we should opt for squoval style, 'straight sidewalls with a rounded tip'. If you're looking for a long-lasting finish, gel manicures are the way forward, says Humphrey. But should you not want to invest in an at-home gel kit, brands such as Essie are making salon styles 'super easy to achieve at home', she says. Case in point, nail tech Iram Shelton beautifully demonstrates below how Essie's allure shade can be used to achieve a salon-quality finish.
