Jaxson Dart's Baptism Comes Early at Giants Camp

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. One of the ugly truths of playing this great game that most of us played at some point is the knowledge that no man can play it forever. Career lengths are based on talent level. Some grow up and become New York Giants stars. Others learn sometimes around junior high school that we may not be as good as mom and dad told us we were. Jaxson Dart #6 of the New York Giants Jaxson Dart #6 of the New York Giants Photo byRarely has Jaxson Dart had that problem. After a brief stint in Los Angeles with the USC Trojans, he transferred to the Ole Miss Rebels. There, he teamed with a head coach who just happens to be an offensive genius (Lane Kiffin). So, we knew he'd land on an NFL roster. We just didn't know what roster he'd land on and where he'd be drafted. As it turns out, he heard his name called at the most recent NFL Draft before other players most thought would be taken ahead of him. The most notable of which is Shedeur Sanders. Must read: ESPN's All Quarter Century NFL Team Has a Giant-Sized Mystery Jaxson Dart earns a baptism by fire at first Giants training camp practice There is much to iron out at Giants camp. That's okay. That's what these camps are for. One decision (and an important one) has already been made. Russell Wilson, per Brian Daboll, is Big Blue's starting quarterback headed into the coming season. Russell Wilson is the clear cut starter for the #Giants. "These guys will be out here competing but Russ is our starter," Brian Daboll said. — Jordan Raanan (@JordanRaanan) July 23, 2025 While making this declaration early may not come as a surprise to some, it's hard to avoid the temptation of wondering why Coach Daboll would make such a claim so early? Why not let these guys sweat a little? Why not put a little pressure on Wilson? It seems such a decision would eliminate the 'competitive' part of this equation early and simply transform each session into a series of practice reps. There is, however, another way we can look at this. Daboll is old school in his thinking, and many of these old-school thinkers like having the option of letting their young QBs sit and hold a clipboard (or, in this case, a Microsoft Surface tablet). Must read: Conflicting Russell Wilson Reports Should Fuel Summertime Mayhem Wilson is a veteran. Jameis Winston is the backup. Dart is the understudy. Wilson and Winston won't be around forever, but the plan is to let Dart learn and soak up all that he can without pressure before having to take over in a media market like New York. Or, Daboll could just be going with the veteran who has already won games because he knows he enters this season on the hot seat. You al can mull that over in your free time. Let's shift gears and see how Dart is doing at practice. Jaxson Dart first Pick 6 — Talkin' Giants (@TalkinGiants) July 23, 2025 That one will stick for a day or so, but no one should panic. Again, this is training camp, and rookies learn harsh lessons quickly. The guys at the NFL level are bigger faster and more talented than any other competition these young men have had the experience of lining up against. Surface Laptop 5G Brings Seamless Connectivity To The Enterprise

The Surface Laptop 5G reflects Microsoft's shift toward AI-ready, always-connected devices designed ... More to support real-world mobility and enterprise manageability. Microsoft is expanding its Copilot+ PC lineup with a new addition aimed at mobile professionals. The Surface Laptop 5G, a 13.8-inch business-focused device with built-in 5G and AI acceleration, will begin shipping to customers on August 26. It joins the updated Surface Pro and Surface Laptop, both of which are now available for purchase as of today. These updates reflect a broader shift in Microsoft's vision of how work gets done. Employees expect to work from anywhere, and organizations are increasingly investing in devices that support that flexibility. For Microsoft, the Surface Laptop 5G is about reducing friction for users and IT teams alike. Built for Mobility and Continuity Connectivity isn't a new feature, but integrating it effectively remains a challenge. Microsoft approached the Surface Laptop 5G as a clean-slate design. It includes a six-antenna system that adapts to how the device is held or used. That setup helps maintain a stable connection across changing environments, whether commuting, working from a client site, or joining a video call on the go. Unlike traditional laptops that rely solely on Wi-Fi, this device includes both NanoSIM and eSIM support, giving users flexibility in how they connect. When needed, it can also function as a mobile hotspot—helpful when no other connection is available. The Surface Laptop 5G weighs under three pounds and was tested with over 100 carriers in more than 50 countries. It's designed to maintain consistent performance across networks and geographies. Practical Design Choices Many laptops tuck antennas near the base, which can reduce signal quality when used on a desk or lap. Microsoft repositioned the antennas higher on the device and developed a new laminate material that allows radio signals to pass through without affecting durability or design. These changes aim to make the 5G experience more seamless without increasing the device's footprint. Microsoft also tested the laptop in real-world environments—including homes, offices, and travel settings—to evaluate how connectivity performs in common use cases. This kind of testing helps ensure the device can support everyday workflows without interruption. AI On-Device, Not Just in the Cloud The Surface Laptop 5G features Intel Core Ultra processors and a built-in Neural Processing Unit capable of more than 40 trillion operations per second. This hardware enables AI-powered tasks like transcription, noise reduction, and summarization to run locally—reducing latency and maintaining productivity even in low-bandwidth situations. For organizations using Microsoft 365 Copilot, this means employees can take advantage of AI tools without relying solely on cloud connectivity. The local processing also adds a layer of privacy, since some tasks can be handled directly on the device. IT Considerations and Security From an IT perspective, the Surface Laptop 5G fits into Microsoft's broader management ecosystem. It works with Windows Autopilot and Microsoft Intune, supporting zero-touch provisioning and remote configuration of eSIM profiles. This allows devices to be shipped directly to users, fully set up and ready to go. Admins can monitor compliance and health through the Surface Management Portal in Intune. With Security Copilot now integrated, the platform provides AI-driven insights to help detect and respond to threats more quickly. For teams working in public or shared spaces, Microsoft also offers a PanzerGlass privacy screen—sold separately—to help reduce the risk of visual data exposure. A Timely Refresh With support for Windows 10 ending in October 2025, many organizations are reassessing their device strategies. Microsoft's updated Surface lineup offers businesses a path toward more modern hardware that supports AI, mobility, and security requirements out of the box. The Surface Laptop 5G isn't aimed at power users looking for maximum specs. Instead, it targets a different segment—workers who move between locations, rely on cloud tools, and need dependable connectivity without extra steps. The 13.8-inch Surface Laptop 5G will begin shipping on August 26. The 13-inch Surface Laptop and 12-inch Surface Pro for business customers are available starting July 22. For those looking to refresh aging fleets or support more flexible work models, these devices offer another option to consider—built with mobility in mind.

Brand trap

In today's hyper-consumerist world, brands have evolved from simple labels into seductive illusions. Behind every gleaming logo lies a psychological operation, engineered not just to sell, but to trap. From Paris fashion ramps to Times Square billboards, from digital hoardings on Marine Drive to big banners at cricket stadiums, corporations deploy celebrity endorsements, influencer propaganda, and social engineering to convince us that their products will elevate our status, identity, and happiness. Like millions of others, I once believed that Apple made the best smartphones, Sony the finest cameras, and that Macbook Air was the only laptop worthy of having. Brand loyalty wasn't a conscious choice, it was instinctive, even emotional. Then I experimented. I switched from Mac to the Snapdragon X Elite powered Microsoft Surface laptop and was stunned by the performance. My OnePlus phone offered a smoother, more user-friendly experience than my old iPhone. The change came without the hefty price tag. That's when it hit me, I wasn't choosing better products, I was choosing better marketing. Brands don't merely sell products, they sell aspirations. Luxury fashion houses such as Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Dior craft more than clothes; they engineer exclusivity. Through extravagant runway shows, celebrity presence, and curated social media deluge, they create a world that whispers, 'This is what success looks like.' An advertisement for Chanel No. 5 doesn't talk about the perfume directly; instead, it showcases an elegant lifestyle filled with romance, surfing, fashion, and passion. In a Patek Philippe promotion, the models simply wear the watch; the focus is on heritage, not the timepiece. The marketing for Gucci shows elegance and high fashion aesthetics, nothing is overtly pointed out. One more weapon in the advertisement armoury is the tag line, the catchy phrases that do their part in capturing their audience: Nike – Just Do it; Apple - Think Different; L'Oréal – Because You're Worth It; Adidas – Impossible is Nothing; Rolex A Crown for Every Achievement. On social media and television, the rich and famous flaunt expensive watches, cruise around in Lamborghinis, and carry Hermès Birkin bags. Personal stylists ensure iconic personalities remain 'branded'. The illusion trickles down, infecting the middle class, who chase the same fantasy, often at the cost of financial strain. College campuses and high-society gatherings are breeding grounds for brand promotion. One student's Prada top or another's Chanel clutch becomes someone's life goal. The unspoken competition for social validation easily evolves. Instagram reels, TikTok trends, and YouTube vlogs bombard us with HD fantasies, private jets, designer bags, Monaco nightlife, luxury resorts and cruise parties. Influencers subtly plant the belief that joy is just one purchase away. Many don't buy luxury goods for personal use, they buy them to be seen. But the hard truth is that no one really cares. A stranger might glance at your Lamborghini, Rolex, or Balenciaga, but they'll forget them the next moment. The validation stands for an iota of time, but the financial burden created for purchasing that item remains for a long time. Escape the trap. Prioritise utility over hype. Ask yourself, 'Do I need this, or am I chasing a brand?' Research quality, not labels. Be aware of the manipulation. Every ad, influencer post, and red-carpet appearance is a pitch. Define your own style. It's a confidence booster. Embrace minimalism. Some of the world's wealthiest people, like Warren Buffett and Mark Zuckerberg, dress simply because they don't need brands to validate them. So the next time you're tempted by that shiny logo, ask yourself, 'Am I buying a product, or buying into a fantasy?' sureshbabu2222@

Prime Day Brings the Price of My Favorite Windows Laptop Down to a Record Low

Prime Day, Amazon's annual summer sales event, will run from July 8 to 11 this year, but we're already seeing some dramatic price cuts across a variety of categories. That includes some big sales from Amazon's competitors -- like Walmart and Best Buy -- who are attempting to counter Prime Day with some impressive offers of their own. When it comes to the Microsoft Surface laptop, one of our favorite Windows laptops on the market, Amazon is taking the prize today for best offer. You can get the latest 2025 version of the Microsoft Surface laptop 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD for $800 right now. That's $100 off this top performing laptop's typical price and the lowest price we've seen. Hey, did you know? CNET Deals texts are free, easy and save you money. If you want a bit more storage, you can also pick up the same laptop with 512GB of storage for $900. That's also a record low price. In his roundup of the best laptops of 2025, CNET senior editor Matt Elliott called the Microsoft Surface 7 the best Windows laptop, citing the polished design and battery life as chief selling points. "The Surface Laptop 7 ran for nearly 20 hours in testing -- that's the longest of any 13- or 14-inch laptop I've ever tested -- including the M4 MacBook Air," Elliott writes. This offer is not for the exact 7th edition Elliott reviewed, which was released in 2024, but rather a newer version released this year with nearly identical specs. It offers Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus 8 Core processors, delivering fast performance and power. You also get a touchscreen, haptic touchpad, and two USB-C ports. If you're on the hunt for a monitor to go with this, check out this 27-inch HP monitor down to just $120. Not sure if this is the laptop for you? We're keeping an eye on the latest Prime Day laptop deals as well. Best Prime Day Laptops Deals It's never too early to start shopping for an upgrade to your laptop, and our favorite Prime Day laptop deals are guaranteed to save you time and money. Check out the best savings here. See Now Why this deal matters We don't see this laptop go on sale too often, and when it does it's not usually a significant price cut. Saving $100 on either configuration (256GB or 512GB) is a rare discount. While this is still a spendier laptop, if you're in the market for a reliable Windows laptop that rivals Apple's M4 Macbook Air, this is the laptop for you. Just remember, Prime Day brings big savings but they're fleeting and items can go in and out of stock rapidly. For that reason, if you want it, get it while you can.
