Nearly 2 million people expected to pass through Chicago airports for July 4th travel
Fourth of July travel is underway, and Chicago's airports are expecting some big crowds. At the same time, American Airlines is ramping up operations and rolling out new technology to help make sure passengers don't miss their connections. Sunday is expected to be the busiest day at both O'Hare and Midway airports. Between last Friday and this upcoming Monday, American Airlines will operate nearly 5,000 flights from O'Hare, that's 20 percent more than this time last year. To help with the crowds, both United and American airlines at O'Hare are using new technology that tracks passengers who might miss their connections. If holding a flight won't disrupt the schedule, they'll wait, giving travelers a little extra time to make it. At security, O'Hare is using facial recognition to identify international arrivals. It's called enhanced passenger processing, and it is meant to cut screening times from a minute to just 10 seconds. You will need your Real ID to fly. If your license or ID does not have a gold star in the corner, you'll need a passport or another acceptable form of identification to travel. A reminder, with the holiday rush and ongoing Kennedy Expressway construction, getting to O'Hare could take extra time. Both airports are reminding people to plan ahead, whether you're parking there, taking a rideshare, or hopping on public transit. If you are traveling and need some entertainment, there will be live entertainment at both airports. Check out the live music at Midway on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and at O'Hare on Thursday and Monday. Can I get on a plane without a Real ID? Travelers will not be kicked off their flight if they don't have a Real ID. The Transportation Security Administration said if you don't have a Real ID or passport, you can still fly but you will have to submit to a more intense identity verification process that involves collecting personal information like your name and current address to confirm your identity. Once your identity is confirmed, you will then have to go through enhanced screening at TSA checkpoints. Other compliant forms of ID include a military identification card or a Trusted Traveler card from a program like Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI or FAST. A full list of acceptable IDs can be found on the TSA website. If you don't have acceptable ID, won't cooperate with additional identity verification, or your identity can't be confirmed, you will not be able to enter a security checkpoint. If your ID is non-compliant, you may also be pulled out to a separate area to complete your screening process.

Trainer Blake Ryan rapt with ‘honest' mare Lady Extreme ahead of Rosehill Gardens test
Proven performer Lady Extreme has given trainer Blake Ryan every indication she's ready to back up her slashing first-up performance at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday. Lady Extreme is one of the most consistent horses in Ryan's barn and can make it back-to-back victories in the Chandon Benchmark 78 Handicap (1200m). The daughter of Extreme Choice was an excellent first-up winner at Midway grade last month. Ryan gave her a month to get over the run and hopes it can pay significant dividends in the final event on the program. 'She was terrific first-up and is as honest as you can find a horse anywhere,' Ryan said. 'I've been really happy with her the past couple of weeks. I had her in the other week but pulled her out. 'I wasn't convinced she was ready to be back at the races but have been really happy with her this week and I am happy with her as I was first-up.' Lady Extreme swoops on them to take the Midway at Rosehill first up! ðŸ'¨ @blakeryan86 | @AlyshaCollett | @aus_turf_club — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) May 31, 2025 Lady Extreme reaped the benefits of being ridden colder last start before surging late to get up. Despite drying barrier one, Ryan is eager for jockey Alysha Collett to take a similar approach. 'I don't want to be too close,' Ryan said. 'We've had the opinion all the way along to ride her like we did the other day with Alysha on her, let the speed go and have one crack at them. 'Where she had drawn in the past has forced our hand going forward and a lot of people think she is a speed horse, but she's not.' Lady Extreme's record of three wins and six placings from 10 starts has already made her a promising broodmare prospect. A win on Saturday could see Ryan attempt to make her even more valuable. 'If she happened to win on Saturday and it's half pie-in-the-sky stuff but she would be a three-time city winning mare by Extreme Choice so the only thing left to do would be to try and get black type,' he said. 'It's 17 days to the Ramornie (at Grafton) from Saturday and if she won I'd nominate her but she mightn't get enough points to get into that field.'

Newcastle preview: Home track has Nathan Doyle's gelding set to Attack
Don't miss out on the headlines from Horse Racing. Followed categories will be added to My News. Connections of Rush Attack are putting his last start failure down to not handling the Hawkesbury track and expect to see him return to form back on home turf. Rush Attack settled midfield on the fence bit failed to run on and beat just three home behind Enter The Dragon on April 9. Prior to that run, he won a Benchmark 72 Midway at Rosehill before a nose second in another Midway at Randwick behind Pocketing. 'There are some horses who go to Hawkesbury but just don't handle it,' said David Dyson, racing manager for Nathan Doyle. 'His previous form was very good in town which holds him in very good stead here.' The gelding drops back to a Benchmark 58 and gets in well with 59kg on his back after the claim of Mollie Fitzgerald. 'He is one of the most consistent horses in the stable,' Dyson said 'He has had a little gap between run hence why we trialled him on Monday just to get him ready. 'There's a bit speed in this race and he has drawn to get a beautiful run just behind them. 'One thing this horse does is try and he will put himself in the finish. That's just what he does.' Queen's Rhapsody kicked off her campaign on a bright note with a length win at Hawkesbury on May 15. While she won comfortable in the end, feedback from jockey William Stanley was that she floated once she hit the front. Doyle has put visors on the three-year-old this week to help her focus and she looks extremely hard to beat in the Class 1 Handicap (1250m). 'We have put the visors on this week to help he concentrate a little bit more,' Dyson said. 'She worked in them about 10 days ago and was really good. She was very sharp. They seemed to have taken her to the next level. 'Once again, we have opted to claim again. Mitch Stapleford takes three kilos off which gets her into the race beautifully.' Bohemian Art looked to have the race won at the 200m on debut when she hit but just didn't know how to put them away and Impressionism kicked back to narrowly beat her. Queen's Rhapsody is looking to make it back-to-back wins when she steps out at Newcastle. Pucture: Bradley Photos She then went to Kembla where she was a well beaten fifth to Monte Veebee but was found to have bled from one nostril. Having galloped to stewards satisfaction since then, the stable expects her to bounce back in the Maiden Plate (1400m) for fillies and mares. 'Put a line through that run,' Dyson said. 'She galloped for the stewards here last Friday over 1000m to clear that embargo and she worked very strongly. 'We are very happy with her we think she is back to where she was at her first-up run.' Doyle also has two youngsters making their debut in the 2YO Maiden Handicap (1200m). Divo is a grandson of Makybe Diva by Capitalist who has shown plenty of ability winning his two trials this preparation. Just Response is by Justify and like his stablemate, has won both his trials. 'Divo has got a lot of speed. My one query with him is the long time between his last trial on April 24 and his race debut,' said Dyson. 'It would be great if it could get back to somewhere near a soft because the drier the better for him. 'Just Response isn't as sharp as Divo but he has got the fitness edge on his side. He trialled on the Beaumont on Monday and went very well. 'The wet track was absolutely no issue to him so he is one horse we know will get through it.'
