8 Filipino Seafarers Attacked in Red Sea Return Safely Home, Gov't Extends Full Support
Eight Filipino seafarers from the MV Eternity C, who were caught in two Houthi rebel attacks in the Red Sea earlier this month, have arrived safely in the Philippines. They landed at NAIA Terminal 1 in Pasay City on July 16, 2025, via flight SV870. Their homecoming was facilitated through the coordinated efforts of various Philippine agencies, following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s directive. The seafarers had been working on a Greek-managed cargo vessel when it was attacked on July 7 and 8. Support teams from the Migrant Workers Office (MWO), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), and the Philippine Consulate in Jeddah ensured their safety and immediate assistance prior to repatriation. The returning seafarers will receive financial aid, medical care, and reintegration support from the DMW's AKSYON Fund, OWWA, DSWD, DOH, DOTr, and TESDA to help them transition back to life with their families.

8 Filipino Seafarers Rescued from Distressed Vessel MV Eternity C Arriving in PH Tonight
Eight Filipino crew members from the cargo ship MV Eternity C are set to arrive in the Philippines tonight, days after being rescued at sea near the Port of Jizan, Saudi Arabia. The vessel, which was sailing under a foreign flag, reportedly encountered mechanical and navigational issues, leaving it stranded and unable to proceed to its destination. The situation endangered the lives of the crew on board, prompting local authorities in Saudi Arabia to initiate a rescue operation. On July 14, the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah, led by Consul General Rommel Romato, along with Labor Attaché Fidel Macauyag of the Migrant Workers Office and OWWA personnel, met the seafarers upon their arrival at the port. The team provided immediate humanitarian aid, including emergency travel documents, temporary shelter, and medical evaluation at a nearby hospital to ensure their safety and well-being. The Consulate expressed deep gratitude to the Saudi Arabian government for its swift and coordinated assistance, which was crucial in facilitating the safe recovery and repatriation of the Filipino nationals. The rescued crew members are expected to be flown home tonight, where they will receive further support from concerned government agencies.

Dubai-based overseas Filipino workers can now verify employment contracts online
Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Dubai now have a faster and more convenient way to process their employment contract verification. The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on July 7 launched a new online system that allows OFWs to submit and verify their documents remotely — without having to visit the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Dubai in person. Previously, OFWs had to submit their requirements online or via email but still needed to physically appear at the Philippine Consulate or MWO-Dubai to complete the verification. This required securing an appointment slot, which was often difficult to get, especially during peak travel seasons. Simplified process Now, with the launch of the pilot online verification system — developed in partnership with the DataFlow Group — the process has been simplified. OFWs can access the platform via and complete the entire verification remotely. The pilot will run for 30 days starting today. The system will accept up to 200 applications per weekday from 8am to 11.59pm, with plans to expand this capacity depending on demand and evaluator availability. How to apply 1. Access the Portal 2. Enter your email address You'll receive a One-Time Password (OTP) for verification. 3. Verify OTP Enter the OTP sent to your email to proceed. 4. Access the dashboard After logging in, click 'Start Verification' on the dashboard. 5. Select country Choose UAE as your application country, where the verification report is required. 6. Choose verification details Use the dropdown menus to select the purpose of verification and verification category. 7. Upload documents You'll be directed to a page to upload the required documents. You can choose to proceed immediately or complete it later. Applicants can expect their verified contracts to be available within three working days. Once completed, workers can download both the verified contract and their Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC) through This new system builds on Advisory No. 07, Series of 2025, which took effect on May 1 and introduced updated guidelines to improve service delivery. The revised process now offers two main options — online and in-person — and applies to OFWs holding visas from Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah, Umm Al Quwain, and Ras Al Khaimah. Walk-in and special cases still supported For those who prefer to walk in, or in cases where online submission isn't possible, manual verification at MWO-Dubai remains available. OFWs may visit the office one working day before their flight. Special scheduling provisions apply to those flying over the weekend or when the day before departure falls on a holiday. Additionally, OFWs already in the Philippines who were unable to complete verification before leaving may authorise a representative to submit their documents in Dubai. These representatives will be allowed entry 1–3 days prior to the OEC appointment in the Philippines or 2–5 days before the worker's return flight to the UAE. Exceptions apply While most OFWs may proceed with online contract verification, exceptions apply. To avoid delays or disapproval, ensure that you meet all the eligibility requirements and none of the disqualifying conditions apply to you. You can not apply for online contract verification if:
