Video shows injured illegal alien suspect being dumped outside New York hospital after CBP officer shot

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on Monday released a video showing an illegal alien suspected of shooting an off-duty Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer being dumped outside a Bronx hospital by another suspect. The video shows a man in a red shirt riding a black moped into what appears to be a hospital bay, and subsequently pushing a passenger in a white shirt onto the ground. The passenger slinks off the moped before the driver flees the scene. DHS said in a post on X that the video shows the suspects on the same moped that was also captured on video at the scene of the shooting. "These individuals will face the full weight of the U.S. Justice System," DHS added in the Francisco Mora Nunez is accused of shooting the CBP officer during an attempted robbery in Fort Washington Park late Saturday night. The CBP officer was hanging out in the park with a companion when police say Nunez and another suspect pulled up on the moped and tried to rob the officer at gunpoint. The officer pulled out his own service weapon to defend himself. Both Nunez and the officer were shot multiple times. The officer, who has not been named, was shot in the face and arm. He is expected to recover. Nunez entered the U.S. illegally at the Arizona border in 2023. He was released into the country under the Biden administration. At the time of his arrest for the shooting, he had an active warrant for kidnapping in Massachusetts and multiple prior felony arrests, according to DHS. On Monday, the second person was arrested in connection with the shooting. Cristian Aybar Berroa of the Dominican Republic, who "illegally entered the United States on June 19, 2022, and was released into the country on interim parole pending his immigration hearing," was taken into custody, DHS said Monday upon his arrest. He is suspected of committing several crimes while on parole, including 2nd degree reckless endangerment in May 2023 and 4th degree felony grand larceny and petit larceny in March and April 2024. In February of this year, Berroa was arrested for 2nd degree reckless endangerment, reckless driving and for driving without a license, according to DHS. "On June 12, 2025, Berroa pled guilty to petit larceny at the Bronx County Supreme Court. This plea was made in consolidation of all his previous arrests, and he was conditionally discharged and allowed to roam the streets of NYC," it also said. "A judge ordered Berroa a final order of removal on January 3, 2023." New York is a sanctuary city for illegal aliens, and does not comply with ICE detainer holds. Nuna and Berroa are expected to face federal charges.

Mamdani silent after Border Patrol officer allegedly shot by illegal immigrant in NYC

New York City socialist mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani has remained silent almost two days after an off-duty Border Patrol officer was shot in the face, allegedly by a previously deported illegal immigrant in his city. Mamdani's social media posts and website show no public statement on the matter, which has become national news and sparked a broader discussion of President Joe Biden's border policies and criticism of sanctuary cities. Fox News Digital reached out to Mamdani's campaign for comment but did not immediately hear back. According to police, the suspect, Dominican national Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez, was seen on video getting off a scooter before approaching the officer while he was sitting and speaking to someone near a body of water. The officer has not yet been identified. The officer, who was not in uniform, pulled out a gun to protect himself, and a shootout ensued. The agent was hit in the face and forearm and transported to a hospital, where he is currently in stable condition. He is expected to survive. Nunez was also injured during the shootout and was shot in the leg and groin, police said. He was dropped off at a hospital in the Bronx, according to authorities. DHS also told Fox News that Nunez has an active warrant for kidnapping in the state of Massachusetts, in addition to prior felony arrests. President Donald Trump weighed in on the shooting Sunday afternoon, writing that "an incredible CBP Officer was shot in the face by an Illegal Alien Monster freed into the Country under Joe Biden." Mamdani has been widely criticized for his previous calls to defund the police and his stated opposition to working with Trump to deport illegal immigrants if he is elected mayor in November. Mamdani said in June after winning the primary race that he would halt "masked" U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials from "deporting our neighbors." The mayoral hopeful announced on Sunday that he was headed to Uganda "in a personal capacity" to celebrate his marriage to his wife, Rama, with their family and friends. "I do want to apologize to the haters, because I will be coming back," he said, adding he would return to New York City "by the end of the month." Federal immigration authorities have faced an increase in public scrutiny from Democrats and left-wing activist groups, even getting toward the point of violence. Border Patrol was targeted in an ambush earlier this month at an annex facility in McAllen, Texas, in which a local police officer was hit in the leg, and two Border Patrol personnel were injured. The gunman was killed. In addition, twelve individuals are facing charges, including ten for attempted murder of federal officers, in an Independence Day attack outside the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas, intended to target ICE agents. A police officer was shot in the neck but is expected to recover, and cars were vandalized. Overall, ICE agents have faced an 830% increase in assaults since this time last year as the Trump administration continues to ramp up deportation and immigration enforcement efforts, according to DHS. "Rocks, Molotov cocktails, and even gunfire. Our brave ICE agents are facing attacks at a level never seen before in America—an 830% increase. Stand for the homeland. Stand for law and order. Stand with ICE," Homeland Security posted to X last week. Fox News Digital reached out to DHS, ICE and CBP for comment but did not immediately hear back.

Noem visits CBP agent shot in New York City as manhunt continues for alleged accomplice

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem on Monday visited the Customs and Border Protection officer who was shot in New York City over the weekend during an attempted robbery involving a previously-deported illegal immigrant. The off-duty officer was allegedly struck in the face and forearm in Manhattan's Riverside Park on Saturday night. Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez, a Dominican national who was caught by Border Patrol in April 2023, was taken into custody following the shooting while his alleged accomplice remained on the loose Monday. "A witness of the attack — believed to be an attempted robbery — states that she and the victim were sitting on the rocks by the water when 2 subjects on a scooter drove up to them and the passenger got off the back and approached them with a firearm drawn. The off-duty CBP officer responded by withdrawing his own firearm in self-defense," Homeland Security said in a statement. "The CBP officer was shot in his right arm and left cheek. Thankfully, the officer is in stable condition at the hospital," it added. Nunez was also injured during the shootout and was shot in the leg and groin. He was dropped off at a hospital in the Bronx, according to authorities. "Suspect Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez is a national and citizen of the Dominican Republic. RE ENTERED and RELEASED under Biden— on April 4, 2023 the United States Border Patrol apprehended him at/near San Luis, AZ," Noem wrote on X prior to the hospital visit. "This criminal has a criminal warrant in Massachusetts for kidnapping and had been charged with a series of offenses," she added. After being apprehended at the Arizona border, Nunez was released into the U.S., though he still has an active deportation order. New York City Mayor Eric Adams described Nunez as a "21-year-old male has prior arrests for assault and violating an order protection." At the time of this shooting, he had an active bench warrant from the Bronx, was wanted for a robbery from last December, and [a] stabbing from January," Adams also said. "He has inflicted violence in our city and once he is charged for last night's crimes, we will be able to add attempted murder to his rap sheet," the mayor added. President Donald Trump weighed in on the shooting Sunday afternoon, writing that "an incredible CBP Officer was shot in the face by an Illegal Alien Monster freed into the Country under Joe Biden." "The CBP Officer bravely fought off his attacker, despite his wounds, demonstrating enormous Skill and Courage," Trump wrote.

Nunez was initially detained by the United States Border Patrol (USPB) in April 2023 after crossing the southern border in Arizona, before later being released into the U.S.. Eric Gay/AP What To Know A witness of the attack said that she and the victim were sitting on rocks by the water when two suspects drove up to them on a scooter, before the passenger got off and approached them with a drawn firearm, according to DHS. The CBP officer, who has not been named, then drew his own firearm in self-defense. The officer then sustained gunshot wounds to his right arm and left cheek, according to DHS. He is currently in stable condition and receiving treatment at the hospital. Nunez has been arrested multiple times by law enforcement agencies since arriving in the U.S., according to DHS. On October 11, 2023, the New York City Police Department (NYPD) charged him with felony grand larceny, petit larceny, and reckless driving. In October 2024, he was arrested and charged with assault in the second and third degrees. He was also arrested for criminal contempt in November that year. In January 2025, he was arrested again for criminal contempt. Meanwhile in February, the Leominster Police Department in Massachusetts issued a criminal warrant for his arrest in connection with an armed robbery involving a firearm. Nunez was issued with a removal order in November 2024 after he failed to appear for an immigration hearing. What People Are Saying McLaughlin said in a statement: "The Biden Administration arrested this criminal illegal alien at the border and chose to release him into our country to terrorize Americans. We are thankful that our brave law enforcement officer is in stable condition. "Sanctuary city politicians allowed this to happen. This suffering is a direct result of lawless sanctuary city policies. Under President Trump and Secretary Noem, DHS will flood the zone in sanctuary cities and remove these criminals one by one. We will not be deterred: if you break America's laws we will hunt you down, arrest you, and deport you." CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott said in a post on X: "Our CBP Officer in NYC showed extraordinary courage last night - shot in the face by an illegal alien and still fought back to help bring his attacker into custody. This violent criminal never should've been on our streets. This is exactly why we fight every day to secure this nation. We're praying for the officer & his family." New York Mayor Eric Adams said at a press conference: "He has inflicted violence in our city and once he is charged for last night's crimes, we will be able to add attempted murder to his rap sheet." President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social: "Last night, in New York City, an incredible CBP Officer was shot in the face by an Illegal Alien Monster freed into the Country under Joe Biden. He was apprehended at the Border in April 2023 but, instead of being deported, was RELEASED. The CBP Officer bravely fought off his attacker, despite his wounds, demonstrating enormous Skill and Courage. The Democrats have flooded our Nation with Criminal Invaders, and now, they must all be thrown out or, in some cases, immediately prosecuted in that we cannot take a chance that they are able to come back. That's how evil and dangerous they are."
