Tourists praise police for ensuring Pas-led rally held in peaceful manner

KUALA LUMPUR: Tourists visiting the capital praised the police and local authorities for ensuring that today's Pas-led rally at Dataran Merdeka proceeded smoothly in a peaceful manner. Anastasia, 32, from Russia, said she and her boyfriend were sightseeing in the city centre when they came across the gathering. "They seem peaceful and are not bothering anybody so I don't feel uneasy," she said. The 32-year-old said she enjoyed her stay in Kuala Lumpur as the food was amazing. "I can't get enough of the good food here," she said. Another tourist, who only identified herself as Mika, 47, from Holland, said demonstrations were a common occurrence in her homeland. "It's all part of democracy. As long as it is held in a peaceful manner, I don't see anything wrong with it. "I did not expect to see a demonstration when we left our hotel here but there was nothing to complain about," said the researcher. She said she and her family were looking forward to their two-week stay in Malaysia before they head over to Thailand.
