Richard Jefferson agrees to return to ESPN; Doris Burke's spot still in question: Sources
Richard Jefferson has an agreement in place to return to ABC/ESPN, where he is expected to continue on NBA Finals broadcasts with Mike Breen, while Doris Burke's spot on the network's top team remains in question, sources briefed on the discussions said. Jefferson, 45, was elevated to the No. 1 team last season after previously being on the network's No. 2 team. Advertisement The official contract is not yet signed. ESPN declined to comment on Jefferson's agreement. Amazon Prime Video, which begins its coverage of the NBA in the fall, had some interest in Jefferson at one point. If ESPN were to replace Burke, Tim Legler is considered the leading candidate. The network could also choose a two-person booth. Before the finals, The Athletic reported that Burke's spot on the No. 1 team was not guaranteed. A Hall of Famer, Burke had been on the top trio since ESPN fired its lead analysts, Jeff Van Gundy and Mark Jackson, during the summer of 2023. Since then, Breen and Burke were briefly paired with Doc Rivers before he returned to coaching with the Milwaukee Bucks. After Rivers, ESPN selected JJ Redick over Jefferson to replace Rivers. But after the 2024 NBA Finals, Redick took the Los Angeles Lakers coaching job. Following The Athletic's story in June, many publicly supported Burke, most notably Indiana Pacers coach Rick Carlisle. Before his team played in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, he took time to address the report and praise Burke. Jefferson, for his part, showed up at the Women's College World Series, which was in Oklahoma City like the NBA Finals, sporting a T-shirt that read, 'My Favorite Broadcaster is Doris Burke.' Breen, Dave Pasch, Ryan Ruocco and Mark Jones will be the lead play-by-play announcers, while Jefferson, Burke, Legler and Jay Bilas have been the top analysts.

All-Ireland SFC semi-final teams: Two changes for Kerry, Tyrone, Meath and Donegal unchanged
Kerry manager Jack O'Connor has made two changes to the side that dethroned champions Armagh in style in the quarter-finals. Tom O'Sullivan was forced off in the first half of that game with a calf injury, so Mike Breen comes in at centre-back, having missed the quarter-final through injury. Micheál Burns is in at right-half forward, Mark O'Shea dropping back to the bench, which also features Paudie Clifford, despite his introduction a fortnight ago. Diarmuid O'Connor has been named at midfield, however, his manager said during the week that he expected a shoulder problem to keep him out. Tony Brosnan, Tadhg Morley, and Paul Geaney are all apparently fit enough to be among the substitutes. Tyrone have named the same XV that started their quarter-final victory over Dublin. Subs: Oisin O'Kane, Aidan Clarke, Michael Rafferty, Frank Burns, Michael McKernan, Ben McDonnell, Michael O'Neill, Conor Meyler, Eoin McElholm, Mark Bradley, Ruairi Canavan. Donegal and Meath are both unchanged for their semi-final clash on Sunday. But Caolan McGonagle returns to the 26 for Jim McGuinness's men, having been out since the opening group game against Tyrone. Donegal fought back from seven points down in their quarter-final win over Monaghan while Meath came good down the closing stretch against Galway. Jack O'Connor names Kerry team to play Tyrone in All-Ireland semi-final
Jack O'Connor has named his team to face Tyrone in the All-Ireland semi-final this weekend. The Kingdom boss has made just one change to the side that dethroned Armagh in the quarter-final, with Mike Breen named to start at centre-back in place of Tom O'Sullivan, with Gavin White moved to wing-back. Shane Ryan starts in goal, with a trio of Paul Murphy, Jason Foley and Dylan Casey tasked with keeping Tyrone's sharp-shooter's quiet. Is Mike Breen retiring? Fact-checking viral social media rumors
Jul 03, 2025 02:49 AM IST A viral post on an NBA parody account on X claiming that ESPN commentator Mike Breen is set to retire caused quite a stir. Titled @ScamCharania, a play on NBA Insider Shams Charania's name, the X account claimed that Breen, 64, will hang his boots after three-decades in broadcasting. The post went viral, with some reputed NBA journalists also sharing it. However, as it turned out, it was a fake post made from a parody account.
