‘King of the Hill' Announces Guest Stars, Recasting for Upcoming Hulu Revival

Earlier this month, Hulu announced that the upcoming 'King of the Hill' revival will see Ronny Chieng take over the recurring guest role of Kahn Souphanousinphone from the show's original run. The decision meant that the Asian character, previously one of several parts voiced by Toby Huss, would be voiced by an Asian performer for the first time. Now, IndieWire can exclusively reveal five new guest stars for the show's long-awaited 14th season, several of which are similar recastings of old recurring characters with actors of color. In addition, Keith David and Anthony 'Citric' Campos have joined the series as new characters. More from IndieWire Join IndieWire and Disney for 'Paradise' Panel at Vidiots Foundation on August 12 'Wednesday' Is Renewed for Season 3 David will play new character Brian Robertson, who rented the house of main character Hank (series co-creator Mike Judge) in between the events of the show's original seasons and the revival, and integrates into Hank's friend group. Campos will play Emilio, a chef at the Dallas restaurant of Hank's grown son Bobby (Pamela Adlon). Returning characters Ted Wassanasong, Chane Wassanasong, and Joseph Gribble have all been recast with new performers. Ted, a Laotian businessman and the financial backer of Bobby's restaurant, will now be voiced by Kenneth Choi, after having previously been voiced by Huss in the show's original run. Chane, Ted's son and Bobby's former childhood bully and now business partner, will be voiced by Ki Hong Lee; previously, he was voiced by Adlon. Joseph Gribble, Bobby's half-Native best friend, will be voiced by comedian Tai Leclaire, after originally being voiced by Breckin Meyer. The creative team of 'King of the Hill' have previously been open about the possibilities of recasting for the revival. In 2023, while the season was still in development, co-creator Greg Daniels said in an interview with TVLine that he wasn't sure if Kahn would return for the revival, but, in the event that he did, 'We would most likely replace Toby's voice for Kahn. Like, if we were casting today, we wouldn't have cast him. But we cast it in 1997. 'Most animation casts play multiple roles, and Toby Huss initially played [Hank's father] Cotton Hill and was cast for that, and then Kahn came up later,' Daniels told TVLine. 'And most productions, especially back then, didn't have the budget to to hire a special performer for each voice. But it's different now.' In the years since 'King of the Hill' went off the air, the topic of casting racially appropriate voice actors for animated series has become a more contentious issue. 2017 documentary film 'The Problem with Apu' ignited conversation over Hank Azaria voicing the Indian 'Simpsons' character, which led to Azaria stepping down from the role. In 2020, a wave of voice acting recastings occurred after the Black Lives Matter protests of the summer: Jenny Slate stepped down from the role of Black middle-schooler Missy in 'Big Mouth' and was replaced by Ayo Edebiri, Kristen Bell was replaced by Emmy Raver-Lampman in voicing mixed-race teen Molly on the Apple TV+ series 'Central Park,' and 'Bojack Horseman' star Alison Brie publicly apologized for voicing a Vietnamese character in the series. The original 'King of the Hill' first premiered in 1997 on Fox, and ran for 13 years before its final season wrapped in 2010. Starring Judge as propane salesman Hank Hill, the series revolves around the everyday lives of Hank, his family, and their friends and neighbors in the small city of Arlen, Texas. Praised for its realistic and grounded humor, the show developed a cult following, and won two Emmys over the course of its run. The upcoming Season 14 follows Hank and his wife Peggy (Kathy Najimy) as they return and readjust to Arlen, after spending years living in Saudi Arabia selling propane to earn their retirement money. Their son Bobby, previously a child in the original series, is now an adult running a restaurant in Dallas with his childhood friends. Alongside Judge, Najimy, and Adlon, the revival also features Johnny Hardwick, Stephen Root, and Lauren Tom in the main cast. In addition, Huss will take over the role of Dale Gribble, previously voiced by the late Johnny Hardwick. Deceased voice actors Brittany Murphy and Tom Petty, who voiced the characters of Luanne and Lucky, will not be recast for the revival. In addition, Season 14 will feature the late Jonathan Joss, who was shot and killed this June, in his final appearance as the character John Redcorn. 'King of the Hill' comes from 20th Television Animation, and is executive produced by original co-creators Mike Judge and Greg Daniels. Saladin Patterson serves as showrunner and executive produces, alongside 3 Arts' Michael Rotenberg and Howard Klein and Bandera Entertainment's Dustin Davis. 'Daily Show' Star to Take Over Fan-Favorite Role in 'King of the Hill' Reboot

'Daily Show' Star to Take Over Fan-Favorite Role in 'King of the Hill' Reboot originally appeared on Parade. Fifteen long years after viewers last saw Hank Hill and his brood of eccentric family members, friends and neighbors, King of the Hill is officially set to return to television via a long-awaited reboot series. Originally airing for 13 years on Fox, King of the Hill quickly became one of the most widely watched adult sitcoms on the mainstream network, rivaling other notable animated series like The Simpsons and Family Guy in terms of its critical popularity. Ending for the first time in 2010, creators Mike Judge and Greg Daniels have nevertheless tirelessly worked to get King of the Hill to return for a fourteenth season. This time around, however, there's going to be some major changes in the small town of Arlen, Texas. In a recent trailer advertising King of the Hill's fourteenth season, the series confirmed some key details surrounding the series' latest story, as well as which fan-favorite characters are set to return. Along with classic King of the Hill characters like Hank, Peggy, Bobby and Dale, the Hills' famously short-tempered neighbor, Kahn Souphanousinphone, will play a central role in the rebooted series. Rather than having original voice actor Toby Huss once again reprise the role, though, The Daily Show's Ronny Chieng will take over voice-acting responsibilities for the character. Throughout King of the Hill's decorated run on Fox, Kahn appeared as the class-obsessed next-door neighbor to the Hills, who he frequently derided as "lower-class hillbillies." A longtime favorite among dedicated King of the Hill fans, Kahn's recasting serves as a more appropriate change for the series, with the Laotian character previously portrayed by the white Huss, who voiced the character with an exaggerated Asian accent. Another key piece of information confirmed is that Johnny Hardwick, who passed away in 2023, will reprise his role as Dale Gribble in the first six episodes of the new series, having recorded his lines before his death. From episode 7 onward, Huss will take over voice-acting responsibilities for the character. 'Daily Show' Star to Take Over Fan-Favorite Role in 'King of the Hill' Reboot first appeared on Parade on Jul 10, 2025 This story was originally reported by Parade on Jul 10, 2025, where it first appeared.

Hulu's King of the Hill revival reveals a whole new Texas in first trailer

King of the Hill is finally coming back after 15 years, and in the revival's new trailer, the world has become a very different place, I tell you what. Set years after Hank (Mike Judge) has been working in Saudi Arabia on a propane project to secure his and Peggy's (Kathy Najimy) retirement, King of the Hill's fourteenth season follows the patriarch back home to Arlen, where he's taken aback and how much things have changed. Boomhauer (Judge), Bill (Stephen Root), and Dale (Toby Huss, taking over for the late Johnny Hardwick) are all still around and down to knock back a few drinks, but they all feel out of place in an Arlen where gender-neutral bathrooms and gig-working drivers have become commonplace. Bobby (Pamela Adlon) seems to be faring better in Dallas where he's become a chef and still hangs out with Connie (Lauren Tom) and a few of their other childhood friends. But the trailer makes it clear that Hank's going to have a hard time adjusting to his new life as a senior citizen in a town full of people who see him as a bit of a relic. After such a long pause, it's going to be great to see the Hills dealing with all of the aspects of modern day life that have just become normal in the time since King of the Hill went off the air. But what's probably going to make or break the show when it drops on August 4th is how well its balances its jokes with its heartfelt messaging.

First Trailer for KING OF THE HILL Revival Drops Ahead of Hulu Premiere — GeekTyrant

The hills of Arlen, Texas are alive again as King of the Hill is officially returning with a new season streaming on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ starting August 4, and we finally have our first full trailer for the revival. If you grew up with Hank, Peggy, Bobby, and the gang standing around sipping beers by the fence, you're about to feel like no time has passed… except, well, a lot of time has passed. This new season (technically Season 14) takes a nearly decade-long time jump from where the series left off. Hank and Peggy have spent the last few years working a propane job in Saudi Arabia to build their retirement fund. Now, they're back in Arlen, only to find the town, and their friends, not quite how they left it. As the official synopsis puts it: 'After years working a propane job in Saudi Arabia to earn their retirement nest egg, Hank and Peggy Hill return to a changed Arlen, Texas to reconnect with old friends Dale, Boomhauer and Bill. Meanwhile, Bobby is living his dream as a chef in Dallas and enjoying his 20s with his former classmates Connie, Joseph and Chane.' The trailer gives us a solid look at the new era of King of the Hill , including a glimpse at Bobby's adult friend group, Hank's quiet confusion at a modernized America, and the usual awkward suburban chaos. What's cool is how much it feels like the show we remember, even with all the change. The original creators Mike Judge and Greg Daniels are back, with Saladin K. Patterson ( The Wonder Years, The Big House ) stepping in as showrunner. The voice cast includes Kathy Najimy, Stephen Root, Pamela Adlon, and Lauren Tom. Even Jonathan Joss (John Redcorn) will be heard in the new season, he recorded lines before his passing. As for Dale Gribble, Johnny Hardwick, Dale's original voice actor, also passed away during production, but not before recording for six episodes. For the rest of the season, Dale will be voiced by Toby Huss, who previously voiced Cotton Hill and Kahn. You can watch the full trailer below!

‘Beavis & Butt-Head' Are Coming To ‘Call Of Duty'

Call Of Duty Get ready for the most annoying voice-lines in Call Of Duty history. Mike Judge's infamous duo, Beavis & Butt-Head, are headed to the first-person shooter. Soon, matches of Black Ops 6 and Warzone will be overrun with the foul-mouthed pair. Now, when you're gunned down in the final circle, don't be surprised if the words 'I am cornholio!' ring in your ears. I am of two minds about this latest collaboration. On the one hand, I think all of these crossovers are kind of fun and funny and sometimes just very bizarre (Seth Rogen is an odd choice; Ninja Turtles and Squid Game, less so). On the other hand, I'm firmly in the camp that believes a military shooter benefits in a big way from a grittier, more realistic aesthetic. The solution to this, of course, is to have a toggle that players can switch on and off allowing you to turn all these garrish crossover skins into default mil-sim operators on your end. We already have the ability to turn off all the bright, loud 'dismemberment effects' (and I highly recommend you do so) and this would be just another level of player choice. Players who enjoy watching Beavis go toe-to-toe with the Transformers could have that still. Players who want only military-adjacent looking operators could have that. The balance might be tricky. Activision would either have to designate which skins and operators fit in which category or simply have an option that turned off all non-default skins and made all bonus operators look like a generic operator. But I think it's still a very viable option. Beavis & Butt-Head are a good example of why this is important to players. For those of us who want some kind of approximation of a military combat, outlandish skins are immersion-breaking. But characters like this take it a step further. Some people love Beavis & Butt-Head but I find them insufferable, though I can't pin the blame on the cartoon necessarily. All I can think about are the two kids in my junior high who only talked in Beavis & Butt-Head voices. Obnoxious is not a strong enough word. It used to be that the most we had to deal with was the release of the new Snoop Dogg skin each year, when suddenly every match was dominated by the famous rapper. I can live with that. Can I live with hearing 'TP for your bunghole' every time some 15-year-old sweat pwns me in a match?
