Paolo Banchero agrees to five-year max contract with unique option
The post Paolo Banchero agrees to five-year max contract with unique option appeared first on ClutchPoints. Orlando Magic star Paolo Banchero was a first overall NBA Draft pick, and he has panned out so far. The Magic have a budding superstar, and they are locking him in for the forseeable future. Banchero and Orlando agreed to terms on a five-year rookie max contract extension on Monday, and the deal is worth $287 million. The contract also includes a player option, which is rare for a rookie max. Advertisement 'Breaking: Orlando Magic star Paolo Banchero has agreed to a five-year maximum rookie contract extension that could reach $287 million, Mike Miller of LIFT Sports Management tells ESPN,' Shams Charania said in a post. 'Deal includes a player option; the first for a rookie max since 2021 (Luka Doncic, Trae Young).' Paolo Banchero will have a chance to increase his base salary based on how he performs. If he brings home certain accolades next season, he will see an increase. 'Miller said Banchero's new deal includes triggers to elevate the base salary to the supermax should the Magic franchise cornerstone make either an All-NBA team or earn MVP or Defensive Player of the Year honors next season,' a report from ESPN states. So far, selecting Banchero has worked out for the Magic. After being one of the best players in college basketball with Duke, Banchero was selected with the first overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. He has now been in the league for three seasons, and there are few players that have a brighter future. Banchero is 22, and he has put up some ridiculously impressive numbers. Advertisement 'He's only the eighth player in NBA history to average at least 25, 7 and 4 at age 22 or younger,' the report added. 'And he joined Tracy McGrady and Shaquille O'Neal as the only Magic players to average more than 25 points in a season.' The rebuild seems to be complete for the Magic. They were one of the better teams in the Eastern Conference last season, and now that Paolo Banchero is locked in, Orlando has its core all in place. Franz Wagner, Jalen Suggs and Banchero are all going to be around for a long time, and this team is only going to get better. Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant parts ways with Mike Miller's agency, Lift Sports Management
Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant has parted ways with Lift Sports Management, multiple sources told The Commercial Appeal on June 12. The sources were granted anonymity since no official announcement has been made. Advertisement The Lift Sports Management list of clients no longer includes Morant, who was listed on the website as recently as May 16. Morant joined Lift, an agency headed by former Grizzlies player Mike Miller, in April 2024. Miller became a regular at Grizzlies home games this season, usually seated courtside alongside of Morant's father, Tee Morant. Morant and Miller could not be reached for comment for this story. Ja Morant previously joined Lift after parting ways with Jim Tanner of Tandem Sports + Entertainment. Morant spent his first five NBA seasons being represented by Tanner. After becoming the No. 2 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, Morant quickly became a star NBA point guard in Memphis. He won the NBA's Rookie of the Year award, then won the league's Most Improved award in his third season. Advertisement The success led to Morant earning his own signature shoe, becoming Nike Basketball's first Gen Z athlete. However, Morant's journey hasn't been all peaches and rainbows. He was first suspended in March 2023 after brandishing a gun in an Instagram Live video. Two months later, a second Instagram Live video surfaced online of Morant brandishing a gun. He received a 25-game suspension at the start of the 2023-24 season. Morant made two All-Star games in 2022 and 2023. Injuries and the lengthy aforementioned suspension shortened his 2023-24 campaign. He averaged 23.2 points and 7.3 assists in 50 regular season games with the Grizzlies this season. Ja Morant, Grizzlies remain strong All indications are that the relationship between the Grizzlies and Morant remains strong. Memphis hired Tuomas Iisalo as its next coach when the season ended. Morant spoke highly of Iisalo before the hiring, and his stats improved when Iisalo took over in place of former Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins. Advertisement The Grizzlies have also continued to prioritize Morant as a franchise cornerstone. Morant signed a five-year extension worth $197 million in July 2022. He'll be eligible for a two-year extension this summer, but he has three seasons remaining on his current contract. What's next for Ja Morant Morant could look to partner with another agency that best represents his goals. Another option for the Grizzlies star is self representation. Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander recently parted ways with Wasserman to represent himself. Joel Embiid is another NBA star who also went the self representation route. Alexander Rossi sees Indy 500 hopes go up in flames on pit road
IndyCar driver Alexander Rossi was having an incredible day at the Indianapolis 500 as he was competing toward the front of the pack, but it all ended in the blink of an eye. On Lap 73, Rossi's vehicle began to leak fluid from the back. It was causing problems for Alex Palou, who was immediately behind Rossi's No. 20. Rossi entered the pits and was told the crew would take a minute to figure out what was going on with his car. Rossi pulled into his pit box, and his car was covered in flames. He rushed out of his cockpit as officials came over to extinguish the fire. Rossi got out of the car and threw his gloves down to the ground. Rossi's fueler Mike Miller needed to be attended to as well, as he still had flames on him in the pits. He appeared to be OK as the issue was being taken care of. "Thankfully Mike's OK too. It's always a terrible situation and it's so disappointing," Rossi told FOX from his pit box. "That was such a phenomenal racecar, and the team made a great decision to stay out there when that first split happened with the strategy, and everything we were doing on the 20 Java House stand was awesome. That's what's so painful about this day is you got to have so many things go right. It's just disappointing because it's another opportunity gone." Rossi said the gearbox's temperature started to increase as the race went on, and he believed that was at least one of the reasons why his vehicle went up in flames. Rossi won the race in 2016. He finished fourth in 2024 and fifth in 2023 and 2022. Follow Fox News Digital's sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Florida lands former Arkansas PG Boogie Fland
May 20 - Former Arkansas point guard Boogie Fland committed to reigning national champion Florida on Tuesday. Fland and his representatives, who include Florida alumnus Mike Miller, confirmed the transfer with ESPN. Fland attended this month's draft combine before withdrawing from 2025 NBA Draft consideration last week. He averaged 13.5 points, 5.1 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.5 steals in 21 games (18 starts) as a freshman for coach John Calipari's Razorbacks in 2024-25. Fland missed more than two months of the season with an injury to his right hand. He faced the Gators once, tallying 15 points, four assists and three rebounds in a 71-63 loss on Jan. 11 in Fayetteville, Ark. A five-star recruit and McDonald's All-American, the 6-foot-2 Fland originally committed to Kentucky when Calipari still was the head coach. He fills a vacancy with coach Todd Golden's Gators, with point guard Walter Clayton Jr. out of eligibility along with fellow backcourt starters Will Richard and Alijah Martin. --Field Level Media
