When do you get your Social Security payment for July in California? See schedule
Social Security payments go out this month on a normal schedule in California and the U.S. However, if you happened to have been overpaid by the Social Security Administration (SSA), your check may soon be a bit smaller. That's because the SSA is expected in late July to begin withholding 50% of benefits for those who have been overpaid but have yet to begin repayments. There's no public figure on how many recipients have been overpaid, but the SSA tried to reclaim overpayments from about 2 million people in the fiscal year that ended September 2023, according to KFF and Cox Media Group, based on data acquired in a Freedom of Information Act request. Social Security benefits – mostly for those who are older or retired – typically are paid on Wednesdays. Your payment date depends on your birthdate: if it falls between the first and 10th days of the month, you are issued payments on the second Wednesday of the month (this month that's July 9), according to Social Security Administration's calendar. How to cancel that subscription: Why more Americans are dumping monthly payments The rest of payments go out on subsequent Wednesdays, with recipients born between the 11th and 20th getting paid on the third Wednesday (July 16), and those born after the 20th of the month getting payments on the fourth Wednesday of the month (July 23), according to the SSA calendar. Social Security recipients who began getting benefits before May 1997 are paid on the 3rd of the month. The same goes for recipients who also get SSI payments. Social Security payment schedule for July in California The Social Security Administration's yearly distribution schedules for 2025 and 2026 are available online, should you want to check the calendar for budgeting purposes. Regular Social Security retirement benefits for the month of July will be sent out on the SSA's usual schedule: SSI payment schedule for July, rest of 2025 Recipients of Supplemental Security Income checks will be issued payments on the first business day of the month, which is Tuesday, July 1. SSI checks will be sent out on the following dates in 2025, according to the SSA calendar: What is SSI? Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a benefit program for persons with limited income or resources, those aged 65 or older, and those who are blind or have a qualifying disability. Children with a qualifying disability are also eligible, according to the SSA's who qualify for SSI typically do not have monthly wages above $2,019. Those who may be eligible for SSI can begin the application process online, in person at your local Social Security office, or by calling 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time during the work week.
