White Sox erupt for 6 runs in sixth in win over Pirates
July 20 - Mike Tauchman's go-ahead, bases-clearing double highlighted a six-run sixth inning that propelled the Chicago White Sox to a 10-4 comeback victory over the host Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday night. Tauchman and Lenyn Sosa each had three RBIs and Sosa also had three hits to lead the White Sox to their second win in a row following the All-Star break and their third win in the past five games. The Pirates, who lost their second in a row and have lost 10 of their last 11 games, led 3-0 and rookie starter Mike Burrows took a no-hitter into the fifth inning. But Chicago scored twice in the top of the fifth, ending Burrows' night after five innings. Burrows gave up two runs on three hits, struck out six and walked two. Pittsburgh's bullpen then struggled for the second consecutive game as Caleb Ferguson (2-2) gave up four runs on four hits and recorded only one out. Luis Robert Jr. continued his hot hitting with two hits, including an RBI single that scored Miguel Vargas, who had doubled two batters prior. Kyle Teel and Vargas each had two hits as well. Austin Slater tied the game at 4 in the sixth with a pinch-hit single that scored Teel. Isaac Mattson replaced Ferguson but hit Sosa with a pitch to load the bases with one out. After striking out Josh Rojas, Tauchman belted an 0-2 pitch deep to right field to bring home Robert Jr., pinch runner Brooks Baldwin and Sosa and put the White Sox ahead for good. The comeback bailed out starter Adrian Houser, who gave up four runs (three earned) on 10 hits and one walk while striking out five over 4 1/3 innings. Chicago relievers Tyler Gilbert (3-1), Steven Wilson, Brandon Eisert, Jordan Leasure and Wikelman Gonzalez held the Pirates scoreless over the final 4 2/3 innings. Nick Gonzales and Bryan Reynolds led Pittsburgh at the plate with three hits each, while Andrew McCutchen and Isiah Kiner-Falefa each had two hits. Ke'Bryan Hayes broke a scoreless stalemate in the fourth with a double into the right-center field gap, which allowed Bryan Reynolds and Nick Gonzales to score. Three batters later, Kiner-Falefa singled to drive home Hayes and give Pittsburgh a 3-0 lead. --Field Level Media

Tauchman gets the winning hit in the 11th as the White Sox beat the Guardians 5-4 for DH split
Mike Tauchman drove in Colson Montgomery with an infield single in the 11th inning, and the Chicago White Sox beat the Cleveland Guardians 5–4 on Friday night to salvage a doubleheader split. Batting with runners on the corners and one out, Tauchman's tapper rolled under Kolby Allard's glove. Montgomery scampered home as Allard (2-1) went down to one knee in frustration. Chicago trailed 4–3 before Josh Rojas hit a sacrifice fly off Paul Sewald right before it started to rain in the eighth. Mike Vasil (4-3) pitched three innings for the win. He escaped a bases-loaded jam in the 10th and 11th in the wet weather, delighting what was left of a crowd of 25,084. Cleveland had won four straight, including a 4–2 victory in the first game of the day. The Guardians went 2 for 16 with runners in scoring position and stranded 14 baserunners in the nightcap. José Ramírez hit a two-run homer for Cleveland in the second game. Daniel Schneemann doubled and scored, and he also made an outstanding diving catch on Montgomery's liner to second in the fourth. Lenyn Sosa hit solo drives in the first and the fifth against Gavin Williams, helping Chicago take a 3–2 lead. It was Sosa's second career multihomer game after he also went deep twice on June 25 against Arizona. Cleveland tied it at 3 in the sixth. After Bo Naylor fouled out on a bunt attempt with runners on the corners, Brayan Rocchio drove in Schneemann with a double to left off Jordan Leasure. Key moment: Cleveland's Kyle Manzardo bounced into an inning-ending double play against Vasil in the 11th. Key stat: The White Sox improved to 1-4 against the Guardians in the season series. Up next: Tanner Bibee (4-9, 4.35 ERA) pitches for Cleveland on Saturday, and fellow right-hander Sean Burke (4-8, 4.40 ERA) starts for Chicago.
