R Kelly files request for release from prison citing murder plot against him

Attorneys for R&B singer R Kelly have filed an urgent request for his release from federal prison, citing a serious threat to his life. The motion asks that the 58-year-old be placed under home detention due to what they describe as an orchestrated plan to have him killed behind bars. In a filing submitted on Tuesday, Kelly's legal team claims that his safety is at risk. The motion alleges that three officials from the Bureau of Prisons attempted to recruit another inmate to murder the singer. The claim includes a sworn statement from Mikeal Glenn Stine, a terminally ill inmate who identifies as a member of the Aryan Brotherhood. Stine said that while incarcerated at USP Tucson in Arizona, three senior prison officials offered him a deal: assassinate Kelly in exchange for a chance to escape custody and live out his remaining days as a free man. Related: An ex-cop murderer and rapist broke free from prison in Arkansas. Those whose lives he shattered are 'appalled' 'The threat to Mr Kelly's life continues each day that no action is taken,' the filing states. 'More AB members are accumulating at his facility. More than one has already been approached about carrying out his murder. One of them will surely do what Mr Stine has not, thereby burying the truth about what happened in this case along with Robert Kelly.' It goes on to say: 'Mr Kelly's continued incarceration while he knows his life is in jeopardy constitutes cruel and unusual punishment.' Stine alleges that after being transferred to the same unit as Kelly in March, he was confronted with a reminder of the plot. 'You need to do what you came here for,' he was allegedly told by prison officials. Stine says he reconsidered after months of observing Kelly, eventually confessing the alleged plot directly to him. Currently serving concurrent 30- and 20-year prison terms at the Butner Medium I federal correctional institution in North Carolina, Kelly was convicted on charges including racketeering, child sexual exploitation and sex trafficking. He has been incarcerated since 2020 following his conviction in a New York. Kelly's attorneys say they were informed in June that another Aryan Brotherhood member had been instructed to kill both Kelly and Stine. This isn't the first time Kelly has tried to secure a release on the grounds of inadequate safety. In 2020, while awaiting trial in Chicago's Metropolitan Correctional Center, he was assaulted in his cell by another inmate. His lawyers at the time argued that the government could not adequately protect him and called for his release, but the motion was ultimately denied.

R. Kelly Claims Prison Staff Are Trying To Kill Him—Asks Trump For Pardon

Lawyers representing R. Kelly, the disgraced R&B singer serving decades in prison for racketeering and child sex crimes, have made multiple allegations in recent days that prison staff are attempting to kill him, which prosecutors slammed as 'fanciful' and 'deeply unserious,' as the singer pleads President Donald Trump for a pardon. Kelly's lawyers claimed in a court filing Monday staff at his North Carolina federal prison had given the singer an excessive amount of his medication that caused him to overdose and 'could have killed him,' pleading the court to allow him temporary furlough to home detention. Kelly's lawyers called the alleged overdose a 'plot to take Mr. Kelly's life,' also claiming prison staff ignored blood clots Kelly had complained about in his leg, alleging they refused to let doctors perform surgery on him after they discovered the clots during his hospitalization for the overdose. Kelly alleged earlier this month in a filing requesting temporary furlough that a fellow inmate, Mikeal Glenn Stine, who is a leader of the white supremacist Aryan Brotherhood group, told the singer prison staff had enlisted him to kill Kelly. Kelly's lawyers alleged prison staff told Stine, who is terminally ill, he would be charged for Kelly's murder and that the evidence would be mishandled so he would not be convicted, but Stine had a change of heart and instead told Kelly about the alleged plot. Beau B. Brindley, Kelly's lawyer, has told multiple media outlets he reached out to President Donald Trump's office to seek a pardon, telling USA TODAY Trump is the 'only person with the courage and the power to fight corruption in the prosecution of public figures and stomp it out.' Prosecutors slammed Kelly's murder plot claims as 'deeply unserious' and 'fanciful,' with assistant U.S. attorney Jason Julien arguing Monday 'no court has the ability to enter an order freeing Kelly's victims from the prison that Kelly put them in' and that allowing inmates to seek release for fear of harm would be a slippery slope. A judge is set to rule on Kelly's motion for temporary furlough at a hearing on Friday, according to court documents. Should Kelly's appeal to Trump for a pardon succeed, he would be the latest in a series of singers and celebrities to be pardoned by the president. Trump most recently pardoned reality television stars Todd and Julie Chrisley in May, three years after they were convicted for fraud and tax evasion, with Trump arguing they were 'prosecuted because they were celebrities.' Also last month, Trump pardoned rapper NBA YoungBoy, who was previously sentenced to prison on weapons charges. Rappers Lil Wayne and Kodak Black were among Trump's last-minute pardons before leaving his first term in office four years ago. Todd Chrisley walked free from prison in May after Trump pardoned him. (Photo by) Other celebrities have appealed to Trump for pardons, including 'Tiger King' star Joe Exotic, who was convicted for plotting the murder of Carole Baskin in 2019. Some have speculated whether Trump will pardon Sean 'Diddy' Combs amid his sex trafficking and racketeering trial. Trump, in response to a reporter's question last month, said he would 'look at the facts' and said he hasn't spoken to Combs in years since he entered politics. Kelly, 58, was convicted in New York federal court in 2021 of sex trafficking and racketeering charges as prosecutors alleged he ran a scheme to recruit underage girls for sex, and he was sentenced the following year to three decades in prison. In 2023, Kelly was sentenced by a Chicago court to 20 years in prison, to be served at the same time as his New York sentence, after a jury found him guilty of child sex crimes related to his sexual abuse of his 14-year-old goddaughter. Kelly's convictions followed decades of allegations of sexual abuse, with some alleged incidents involving minors. He was previously acquitted of child pornography charges in 2008, and his allegations received renewed attention in 2019 with the release of the 'Surviving R. Kelly' documentary. R. Neo-Nazi plot to kill R. Kelly in jail? Singer seeks house arrest amid shocking claims

Disgraced singer R. Kelly wants to be released from prison and is instead seeking house arrest. This is after an attorney for the singer said prison officials tried to hatch a plot to have him murdered through a fellow inmate. An inmate, who says he is part of the neo-Nazi prison gang the Aryan Brotherhood, was allegedly approached by prison officials to carry out the murder plot. R. Kelly, who was convicted of federal racketeering and sex trafficking, has requested to be released from prison and is seeking house arrest. This is after an attorney for the disgraced singer said his life is in danger and that three officials from the Bureau of Prisons plotted to have a fellow inmate kill him, according to People. The disgraced singer is serving a 30-year sentence in a Carolina prison. Details of the alleged murder plot were included in a 10 June federal court filing. Inmate Mikeal Glenn Stine alleged he was asked by the prison officials to carry out the plot, according to the filing. 'At least two avowed white supremacists and members of the Aryan Brotherhood have been approached by BOP officers and directed to take Mr Kelly's life,' read the filing, according to E!. Stine said he is a member of the neo-Nazi prison gang the Aryan Brotherhood and that he once held the title of commissioner. This role involved ordering 'beatings, stabbings, and executions that were carried out by other members of the A.B.' Stine said that the prison official who asked him to carry out the murder plot previously directed him 'to order assaults, beatings, and killings of inmates.' The inmate said he was transferred from Arizona's United States Penitentiary Tucson to North Carolina's Federal Correctional Institute Butner, in the unit where R. Kelly is imprisoned. Stine, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer, claimed that after completing the plot, officials said he would be allowed to live his final months as a 'free man,' according to People, who obtained the filing. However, Stine decided to inform the singer about the alleged assignment instead of carrying it out. According to the filing, per E!, a prison authority also warned Kelly that he was possibly in danger. 'The official then advised Mr Kelly that he was in danger and that Mr Kelly needed to be careful. The BOP official intimated that Mr Kelly was not safe in Bureau of Prisons custody,' the attorney wrote.
