Prateeksha Srivastava on her unexpected Bollywood moment with R Madhavan-Fatima Sana Shaikh's 'Mila Tujhe' in Aap Jaisa Koi: 'I recorded it in 2022, Aankh with Sunidhi Chauhan happened in 2024'

Prateeksha, the voice behind 'Mila Tujhe,' discusses the song's unexpected journey to the big screen three years after its recording. She reflects on her dual role as a composer and singer, highlighting how her early classical training shaped her musical style. Prateeksha also shares the sweetest compliment she received for 'Mila Tujhe' and expresses her dream collaborations with renowned artists. The soulful voice behind Mila Tujhe from Aap Jaisa Koi, Prateeksha opened up in this exclusive interview about how the romantic ballad unexpectedly found its place on the big screen three years after it was recorded. She reflected on her dual role as a composer and singer, the early classical training that shaped her sound, and the sweetest compliment she's received for her work so far. Excerpts... How did it feel transitioning from indie composer to becoming the voice of 'Mila Tujhe' in Aap Jaisa Koi? The song is so beautiful that recording my vocals for it became a very joyous process. How did you get on board for the romantic ballad? I was called by Raj Shekhar sir, the lyricist of this song. I had never met Justin Prabhakaran before this. We recorded the song then and there in the studio, and then I think I never knew what was going to happen with it. After three years, I got to know that it's being featured in a movie. What drew you to this project—was it the melody, the lyrics by Raj Shekhar, or the actors Madhavan and Fatima? I think the melody hit me first. It is so breezy and has a bit of vintage elements in it. There are so many live instruments playing in the background. It is such a hummable, sweet melody. After the acclaim for 'Aankh', how did that experience influence your approach to 'Mila Tujhe'? Mila Tujhe was recorded in 2022, Aankh happened in 2024. It's good to be on both sides of the studio. When I record as a singer, I have a better idea of what the composer wants now because, being a composer myself, I have become familiar with the approach and my perspective has changed. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Most Beautiful Women In The World Undo What kind of reviews have you been receiving for the song? Which was the best compliment you have gotten so far for the same? Anybody who heard the song has showered compliments on me. I think the best one was 'Felt like an angel was singing this song.' I think it was a very sweet compliment. You began classical training at age three—how have your early lessons shaped your modern musical style? They are the foundation. And foundation helps the building remain in its position and not crumble and fall. That's exactly what lessons by my father, mother, and my other teachers have done for me. You're both singing and composing—how do you balance wearing both these hats, especially in Bollywood? It's fun, I love it. It's great to have both perspectives—of a composer and of a singer. It helps me in both processes simultaneously, so balancing it is rather my good fortune. As a composer, who would be your all-time go-to singers (male and female) for a song? Most of my songs I compose for my voice so one would be me, and I absolutely love Mohan Kannan Sir's voice . As a singer, name one actress you would love to lend your voice to and why? I would love to lend my voice to Alia Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra and Mrunal Thakur . Who would your dream collaboration be with? I would love to collaborate with AR Rahman, Skrillex, Pink Pantherss, Santosh Narayan Sid Sriram and many others.

Aap Jaisa Koi Album Out Now: R. Madhavan's Film Soundtrack Promises Love And Monsoon Melodies

Last Updated: R. Madhavan and Fatima Sana Shaikh's Aap Jaisa Koi album brings monsoon romance alive with soulful tracks like 'Mila Tujhe'. Out now ahead of Netflix release. As the monsoon clouds roll in, so does a new wave of cinematic romance — courtesy of Aap Jaisa Koi. Slated to release on Netflix on July 11, 2025, the heartfelt film starring R. Madhavan and Fatima Sana Shaikh promises to stir hearts with its emotionally rich soundtrack and tender narrative. And just in time for the season of longing and reflection, the film's full music album has been unveiled — a sonic monsoon in itself. Directed by Vivek Soni and produced by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra under Dharmatic Entertainment, Aap Jaisa Koi is more than a romantic drama — it's a story about rediscovered love, companionship, and what the makers call 'Barabari Wala Pyaar" — a love that feels equal, mature, and deeply earned. At the heart of the album is the moving ballad 'Mila Tujhe', composed by Justin Prabhakaran with lyrics by Raj Shekhar, and soulfully sung by Vishal Mishra and Prateeksha Srivastava. Capturing the delicate vulnerability between the lead pair, the song explores how silence can be the loudest expression of love — quiet, hesitant, and deeply human. Speaking about the album, R. Madhavan shared, 'The soundtrack is an integral part of this film's journey. Every song is rooted in honesty, reflecting the hearts of our characters. I'm grateful to our music team for creating such moving compositions, and I hope audiences feel the same connection with the music and our film, as I do." Fatima Sana Shaikh echoed his sentiment, adding, 'Each track carries its own emotion, weaving a tale of love and longing. This album feels like a gentle companion — one that holds your hand through every tender moment. The melodies echo the quiet beauty of our story, reflecting the emotional heartbeat of the film." The five-track album opens with the already beloved 'Jab Tu Sajan', composed by Rochak Kohli, penned by Gurpreet Saini, and sung by Mohit Chauhan — a song drenched in nostalgia and warmth. Kohli also delivers 'Dhuan Dhuan', an introspective number voiced by Sanjith Hegde and co-composed with Sharan Rawat, that explores emotional ambiguity and quiet desire. The romantic duet 'Saare Jag Mein' sung by Aanandi Joshi and Abhay Jodhpurkar continues the thread of tender intimacy, while 'Jaadu Wali Chimki', sung by Devendra Pal Singh and Vidhya Gopal, brings whimsy and playfulness to the mix. At its emotional core remains 'Mila Tujhe', which lingers long after the last note. Composer Rochak Kohli, reflecting on his contribution, said, 'The music of this album doesn't try too hard—it simply flows, giving it a timeless quality. I'm grateful to R. Madhavan and Fatima Sana Shaikh for bringing warmth and character to every song. I hope the audience connects with and feels every beat we've poured into the album." Justin Prabhakaran, who composed three of the five tracks, added, 'Our songs capture the emotional heart of Aap Jaisa Koi. They are deeply felt, beautifully crafted, and universally relatable. This album is about discovering beauty in stillness—we wanted the music to feel lived-in, like emotions that remain unspoken yet profoundly felt." Whether you're nursing old wounds or falling in love anew, the Aap Jaisa Koi album is your go-to monsoon soundtrack — a lush blend of romance, reflection, and lyrical grace. For those who find comfort in music that wraps around the heart like a shawl of memory, this one's for you. First Published:
