How the Knicks' targeted free-agent moves compare amid shockwaves of NBA change
The noise emanating from Madison Square Garden was a lot quieter on July 1 than it was just over a month ago. Partly, that's the nature of free agency, with deals struck in front offices or over texts. But for the Knicks, the first two days of NBA free agency have been not completely silent, but rather muted as far as making moves to better a team that went as far as their first Eastern Conference final in 25 years. They saw how close they could get — just two wins shy of the NBA Finals, which would have been their first appearance since 1999 — and now the task at hand is to fill the gaps in the roster beside the glaring one at head coach. Advertisement An area of particular need is the bench, which couldn't count on much more than Miles McBride as a reliable contributor last season.

Knicks Fans Enraged by Alleged Phantom Call Against Miles McBride Saturday
Knicks Fans Enraged by Alleged Phantom Call Against Miles McBride Saturday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New York Knicks trailed the Indiana Pacers by a score of 92-77 entering the fourth quarter of Saturday night's Game 6 in Indianapolis. Advertisement The game included lots of exciting back-and-forth play between the Eastern Conference's top two teams and plenty of drama including a controversial call that went against the Knicks during a critical juncture in the third quarter. The play happened as Knicks point guard Miles McBride caught a pass near the left sideline. McBride drifted toward the corner for a chance at a much-needed three-point shot and managed to get it off in time before an Indiana defender came flying in for a potential block. It was then that the Knicks' fortunes took a turn for the worse. Advertisement "Deuce McBride did not step out. Refs straight stole 3 from the #Knicks on a fast break," one fan wrote on X with a replay of the call. "Pretty weird that the announcers didn't say (expletive) when they called that out of bounds," another said. "Blatantly obvious that he never stepped out lol," they added. Others question Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau for not challenging the play. "No challenge or nothing is crazy," one said. The comments poured in as the Knicks attempted to mount a fourth quarter comeback on the road in hopes of stealing another one like they did in Game 4. The Knicks trailed by 12 points with just under eight minutes left in Game 6. NBA playoff bettors expect Knicks to fold in elimination Game 5 vs. Pacers
NBA playoff bettors expect Knicks to fold in elimination Game 5 vs. Pacers After watching the New York Knicks consistently struggle to get stops against the Indiana Pacers through the first four games of the Eastern Conference Finals, bettors are conceding defeat. They're done backing New York. The Knicks are 4.5-point favorites for Game 5 on Thursday, but with elimination staring New York in the face, the betting public is fading the home team harder than it has for any game this series. At BetMGM, 73 percent of bets and 74 percent of money on the spread is siding with Indiana. On the moneyline, 80 percent of bets and 74 percent of the money is on a Pacers win. This is a stark change of heart from the beginning of the series when 67 percent of the handle had New York advancing. Now, bettors aren't just closing the door on a 3-1 comeback for the Knicks, they aren't even giving New York a chance to send the series to a Game 6. That pessimism has trickled down into the prop market as well, where Jalen Brunson to score under 30.5 points is the most popular prop bet at BetMGM. Bettors also like Miles McBride to finish with under 1.5 3-pointers and Mikal Bridges to have under 25.5 points/rebounds/assists.

Foul-plagued Miles McBride provides late spark for Knicks in Game 3 vs. Pacers
INDIANAPOLIS — Miles McBride was on the court for 82 seconds, and he already had three fouls. The Knicks' valuable reserve spark plug sat from late in the first quarter until midway through the third, but he still had an impact on the Knicks' 106-100 come-from-behind win over the Pacers in Game 3. Knicks guard Miles McBride tries to pass the ball against Pacers forward Pascal Siakam during the second half of Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Final on Sunday in Indianapolis. AP 'Honestly, shoutout to my teammates, on the bench. Just talking to me and keeping me encouraged and keeping me locked in,' said McBride, who returned in the second half to contribute nine points. 'I just wanted to do everything I could to get out there. 'Obviously, you can't control certain things, but I wanted to make my impact.' McBride couldn't recall ever being slapped with three fouls in such a short span, joking 'maybe my rookie year, but nothing like that before.' The fourth-year guard checked into the game with 4:51 remaining in the first quarter, but by the 4:40 mark he already was whistled for two loose-ball fouls. He then fouled T.J. McConnell with 3:20 to go and was replaced by little-used veteran Delon Wright. 'Deuce picked up three fouls in [1:22], I don't know if I've ever seen that before,' coach Tom Thibodeau said. McBride didn't return to the game until there was 4:26 left in the third quarter with the Knicks trailing 74-59. But he scored seven straight points for the Knicks late in the quarter to bring them within nine. 'It's not easy to do, particularly when you go to the bench after a minute and then you've gotta still stay in the game mentally,' Thibodeau said. 'I thought his intensity was huge for us. He's a catalyst, his defense, his hustle, and I think it gives people energy when you see him flying around like that.'
