Countdown begins as Pembrokeshire's longest-running carnival returns

The countdown is on to Pembrokeshire's longest-running carnival, which is the culmination of a week of community activities in its town. Narberth Carnival will take to the streets on Saturday, July 26, and is the highlight of Narberth Civic Week which gets underway on Sunday, July 20. This years' family-friendly event will feature plenty of Civic Week traditions such as the Pram Push (weather permitting). Happy bees in a previous carnival parade. There will also be new events introduced this year, including Parkour sessions and as Teddy Bears' Picnic – the latter of which will be raising money to refurbish the town's much-loved play park. Narbelles WI made their carnival debut at last year's event. (Image: Gareth Davies Photography) Chris Walters, chairman of Narberth Civic Week and Carnival said: 'Civic Week has always been about bringing people together and celebrating the incredible sense of community we have here in Narberth. "It's a time when the town comes alive with events, music, laughter and colour, and it's something we're very proud to continue each year. He thanked the members of the small Civic Week committee for their tireless efforts, and also to the members of the public for their messages of support. The parade theme for the carnival is Anything Goes', but shops, pubs and restaurants in the town have been challenged to bring even more fun to the streets with their own Pirates & Captains theme. Chris continued: "I'd encourage everyone to come along, take part and support our local businesses and volunteers who make this possible. "Narberth Civic Week belongs to the whole community – let's make it another one to remember.'

Full house for moving ‘Music of Unity' concert in Milford Haven

ST KATHARINE and St Peter's Church in Milford Haven was filled with music, colour and community spirit on Sunday (May 18), as the Ukrainian music group VILNI and the Milford Haven Town Band joined forces for a powerful charity concert celebrating unity across cultures. Titled Music of Unity, the free concert attracted a full congregation, with standing room only by the time the choir took to the front of the historic church. Dressed in traditional Ukrainian embroidered blouses, the performers from VILNI moved the audience with a series of stirring songs that spoke of hope, resilience, and homeland. The concert was followed by a community gathering in the church hall, where guests shared refreshments and took part in a raffle to raise funds for Ukrainian families affected by war. The Milford Haven Town Band added a local musical flavour to the event, performing several pieces and supporting the vocalists with warm brass harmonies. One attendee told The Herald: 'It was one of the most moving afternoons I've experienced. The music was beautiful, but it was the togetherness in the room that really stood out.' Organisers thanked everyone who donated, with all proceeds going towards humanitarian support for Ukraine. Donations were accepted by cash or card, and raffle prizes included hampers, vouchers, and locally crafted gifts. Photos from the event show a vibrant gathering of people of all ages, brought together by music and a shared sense of compassion.
