Turkey Hosts Libyan Military Delegations After Saddam Haftar Visit
Three Libyan military-technical delegations from the east of the country visited Turkey between 15–28 June 2025, following the official visit of Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar, Commander of the Libyan National Army's Ground Forces, on 4 April. According to the Turkish Ministry of National Defence, the delegations toured various military headquarters, units, and training institutions affiliated with the ministry. The visits form part of an ongoing cooperation initiative aimed at strengthening defence and security ties between Libya and Turkey. The ministry stated that these engagements reflect Ankara's commitment to deepening its relationship with Libya, especially within the framework of a unified 'One Libya' vision. It reaffirmed Turkey's readiness to continue supporting all segments of Libyan society through training, aid, and advisory missions. This outreach underscores Turkey's broader regional strategy of maintaining influence in Libya through military cooperation, particularly with factions in eastern Libya. The presence of multiple delegations within a short timeframe indicates a notable shift in defence diplomacy, following years of tension between Turkey and Libya's eastern leadership. The Turkish defence ministry emphasised that such visits are part of a comprehensive approach to bolstering bilateral relations and promoting stability across Libya. It also signalled that Turkey remains committed to its inclusive stance and continued collaboration with all Libyan stakeholders. Tags: Defense MinistrylibyaSaddam HaftarTurkey

Taiwan records heightened military activity around its territory
Taiwan's Ministry of National Defence (MND) recorded on Monday sorties by six PLA aircraft and six PLAN vessels around its territory. (Image for representation) Three out of the six sorties crossed the median line and entered Taiwan's northern and southwestern ADIZ.(AFP) As per the MND, three out of the six sorties crossed the median line and entered Taiwan's northern and southwestern ADIZ. Sharing the details in a post on X, the MND said, "6 sorties of PLA aircraft and 6 PLAN vessels operating around Taiwan were detected up until 6 a.m. (UTC 8) today. 3 out of 6 sorties crossed the median line and entered Taiwan's northern and southwestern ADIZ. We have monitored the situation and responded accordingly." On Sunday, Taiwan's Ministry of National Defence (MND) had recorded sorties of 8 PLA aircraft and 7 PLAN vessels around its territory. This follows a recent pattern of China's escalated manoeuvres around Taiwan. Taiwan has been governed independently since 1949. However, China continues to claim Taiwan as part of its territory under the "One China" principle and insists on eventual reunification, by force if necessary. Meanwhile, last week, Taiwan's President Lai Ching-te instructed the Taiwanese military to bolster its security surveillance amid rising tensions between Israel and Iran, Central News Agency (CNA) reported. Notably, the order comes amid rising tensions in West Asia. In a routine meeting with military officials on Thursday, the Taiwanese President observed that the conflict in the region has not deterred China from continuing its pressure along the First and Second Island Chains, according to a statement released by the Presidential Office. Lai Ching-te said that the Chinese aircraft carriers, the Shandong and Liaoning, have recently been active in nearby waters. He added that Taiwan must remain in close contact with its allies to ensure it can respond swiftly under all circumstances, CNA reported. Taiwan's President Lai said the United States Indo-Pacific Command has raised its Force Protection Condition level across the region. He directed the Ministry of National Defence and the national security team to monitor the situation and its impact on regional security closely.

Video teases new Chinese blackout bomb that can knock out enemy power stations
China's state broadcaster posted a video on Thursday featuring what appeared to be a new type of graphite bomb that it said could knock out enemy power stations and cause a 'complete loss of electricity' across a targeted area. A social media channel run by CCTV shared an animated video showing the weapon being launched from a land-based vehicle before ejecting 90 cylinder-shaped submunitions. These canisters bounced upon impact before detonating mid-air, dispersing fine, chemically treated carbon filaments designed to short-circuit high-voltage power infrastructure The weapon aims to disrupt enemy command and control systems by triggering widespread electrical outages over an area of at least 10,000 square metres (107,639 sq ft), according to the channel. CCTV cited an account from the state-owned China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) , a contractor affiliated with the Ministry of National Defence. However, the broadcaster offered no details about the weapon's designation or its status. It referred to the weapon as 'a mysterious type of domestically made missile'. It remains unclear which stage of development it has reached, or if it has been deployed by the Chinese military.
