Public Works: Central and Local Road Projects in Balqa Exceed 10 Million Jordanian Dinars - Jordan News
The Ministry of Public Works and Housing, represented by the Directorate of Public Works in Balqa Governorate, continues to implement a wide range of central and decentralized projects across the governorate's districts, with a total cost estimated at over 10 million Jordanian dinars. These projects include maintenance of main roads, construction of service and agricultural roads, as well as public safety and technical services, all within the allocations of the 2025 budget. اضافة اعلان According to the ministry's media spokesperson, Omar Muharameh, the leading projects include maintenance works on the Salt – Wadi Shueib and Mahes – Wadi Shueib roads, costing approximately 3.7 million dinars. These are part of a central tender executed by the Ministry's Roads Directorate aimed at improving infrastructure quality and enhancing safety on these vital corridors. Additional technical and executive updates during implementation have amounted to 810,000 dinars. Regarding traffic infrastructure improvements, Muharameh told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that the ministry is executing a new service road along the Amman – Salt road extending to the Dabbabneh tunnel in both directions, costing 484,000 dinars. This aims to improve traffic flow and reduce pressure on the main road. He also pointed out that the ministry is working on a project to widen the access road and build new buildings and yards for cargo and passengers at the King Hussein Bridge, with a budget of 3.5 million dinars, in addition to illuminating Mada'i road at a cost of half a million dinars. The Balqa Public Works Directorate is also monitoring the implementation of decentralized budget projects exceeding 600,000 dinars, which include road maintenance, construction of agricultural roads, and service works in various areas of the governorate. In the maintenance sector, work is underway rehabilitating the road from Sakneh traffic signal to Karama in the Shouna Al-Janoubi district, with a cost exceeding 59,000 dinars. Another major maintenance project covers the road from the Jordan University Farm to Al-Wadi Al-Abyad in Deir Alla district, costing 222,000 dinars. Both projects involve milling the old asphalt layer, surface leveling, and re-paving. In terms of road safety, the directorate is implementing a project costing 30,000 dinars that includes installing concrete speed bumps and traffic management elements within Salt city center. The directorate has also launched a general maintenance services project in Salt city center for 10 months, costing about 70,000 dinars, to provide labor and machinery for daily maintenance works. Supporting the agricultural sector, the directorate is implementing a series of agricultural road projects in the areas of Rmimen, Soumya, Ayra, Allan, and Umm Al-Omad, with a total cost approaching 220,000 dinars. These projects aim to pave agricultural roads with a final asphalt layer, improving farmers' mobility and ease of access to their lands. Recently, the ministry announced the tender for a project to improve traffic movement and raise public safety standards on the Amman-Salt road, extending from Al-Awaisah complex to the start of the Dabbabneh tunnel over approximately 6 kilometers. The work includes creating side islands to organize entry and exit for commercial complexes without disrupting main traffic flow, with a budget close to half a million dinars. These efforts are part of the ministry's comprehensive plan to develop infrastructure across governorates, implementing royal directives calling for improved services and balanced development in various parts of the Kingdom. Muharameh affirmed the ministry's keenness to complete the governorate council projects before the end of the fiscal year, noting that the ministry has worked according to a plan supervised by the Minister of Public Works and Housing, Engineer Maher Abu Al-Samen, to ensure project preparation, approval, and tender documentation were ready before the new year, allowing tenders to be launched within the first month.

These include: A comprehensive cultural center An environmental park A new administrative building for the Bseira district A Civil Status and Passport Office in Al-Hasa Completion of the Tafila Model School and the Qadisiyah Boys' Elementary School The ministry is also currently executing several secondary projects across the governorate's districts. Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation Projects 74,000 dinars allocated for road maintenance across the governorate, including asphalt removal, pothole patching, roadside cleaning, and culvert maintenance, with a completion period of 270 days. 238,000 dinars for rehabilitating the Qanan-Thawabiya Road, including gabion walls and obstacle removal, over 120 days. 253,000 dinars for improving secondary and agricultural roads in Ain Al-Bayda and Al-Hussein, involving road widening, asphalt layering, and safety enhancements, over 120 days. 299,000 dinars for paving the Jerf–Tafilah Road with similar rehabilitation measures. 437,000 dinars for upgrading the Silk Triangle–Aboor Road, including full roadbed preparation and modern lighting installations. 153,000 dinars to pave agricultural roads in Ain Al-Bayda and Al-Hussein, aiming to enhance access and support agricultural activity. 93,000 dinars for constructing a retaining wall near the Royal Highway in the Al-Rashideen/ Ain Al-Bayda area to ensure traffic sustainability. 136,000 dinars to pave a new service road along the Desert Highway in Al-Hasa to improve local connectivity. Lighting and Safety Enhancements 174,000 dinars allocated for lighting the Sharif Al-Janoub–Ghrandal Road to improve traffic safety. 430,000 dinars for phase one of lighting the Al-Hasa–Tafilah Road, covering 14 km with standard streetlights. 446,000 dinars for phase two of the same road, using energy-saving LED lights on both single and double-arm poles. Public Buildings and Facilities Completion of a multi-purpose sports hall for Bseira Club (1,303 m²), costing 627,000 dinars. Completion of Qadisiyah Health Center, a three-story building, funded by a Spanish grant exceeding 1 million dinars. Strategic Vision for Development The total estimated cost of the six key development projects is 9.471 million dinars, with the most prominent being the cultural center (estimated at 4.5 million dinars). Although design studies have been completed, some challenges remain—such as delays in financial commitment documents and land zoning adjustments. Maharmeh emphasized that these projects align with the ministry's broader efforts to support sustainable development and improve the quality of life in Tafilah through the enhancement of healthcare, education, cultural, and recreational infrastructure. Ongoing Central Projects Improving the Tafila–Karak Road, from Abu Al-Banna to the security checkpoint, 17 km in length, with a budget of 1.9 million dinars, set to begin within weeks and expected to take 6 months. Maintenance work on the Royal Highway from Dlagha checkpoint to Ras Al-Naqab in Ma'an Governorate has been tendered and awarded for 370,000 dinars. These initiatives represent a significant investment in Tafilah's infrastructure and service networks, reinforcing the governorate's position on Jordan's national development map.

Ammon News - The Ministry of Public Works and Housing is implementing a series of infrastructure and development projects in Tafilah Governorate as part of a comprehensive future vision to improve road networks and public services across the region. The total value of these projects exceeds JD 9.471 million. Ministry Spokesperson Omar Maharmeh said the ministry is planning six additional development projects over the next four years. These include a comprehensive cultural center, an environmental park, government buildings in Busayra and al-Hasa, and the completion of two schools: the Tafilah Model School and the Qadisiyah Elementary School for Boys. Approximately JD 74,000 has been allocated for road maintenance throughout the governorate. The project includes asphalt patching, roadside cleaning, and culvert maintenance over a 270-day period. Another JD 238,000 was allocated to rehabilitate the Qanaan-Thawabiyya road, connecting the governorate center to surrounding villages. The 120-day project includes gabion walls and obstruction removal. In Ain al-Bayda and al-Hussein areas, JD 253,000 has been set aside to rehabilitate secondary and agricultural roads, with plans for widening, asphalt layering, protective walls, culverts, and safety barriers. JD 299,000 was allocated to expand and pave the road from al-Jarf to Tafilah, including earthworks and the construction of gabion walls and culverts. The Sherif Al Janoub-Grandal road lighting project will receive JD 174,000 for the installation of modern lighting poles and units to improve road safety. In Dana, maintenance began on the road from the Dana Triangle to the al-Barah-Khandaq Road, including trench concreting and painting, at a cost of JD 133,000. Maintenance materials were also delivered to Busayra. A comprehensive rehabilitation and lighting project is underway on the Silk Triangle Road to Abour, costing JD 437,000 over 120 days. It includes excavation, asphalt paving, culverts, kerbstones, and lighting installation. In agricultural zones, the ministry is paving roads in Ain al-Bayda and al-Hussein at a cost of JD 153,000. The works aim to improve access and connectivity for the agricultural sector. A JD 93,000 retaining wall will be built in Ain al-Bayda near al-Rashidin Street to protect traffic flow. In al-Hasa District along the Desert Highway, the ministry will open and pave a service road to enhance community access, with works costing JD 136,000. Several key projects were completed earlier this year, including a fully equipped 1,303-square-meter sports hall for the Busayra Club (JD 627,000) and the three-story Qadisiyah Health Center (over JD 1 million), funded by a Spanish grant. The future development vision also includes the JD 4.5 million cultural center. While planning is complete, some delays remain due to pending financial approvals and land zoning amendments. The ministry is also advancing several central projects funded directly from its budget, including the JD 1.9 million rehabilitation of the 17-kilometer Tafilah-Karak Road and JD 370,000 in maintenance works for the Royal Road between Dalaqa and Ras al-Naqab in Ma'an Governorate. Lighting works will be carried out on two sections of the al-Hasa-Tafilah Road. The first, a 14-kilometer segment, will cost JD 430,000 and involve the installation of lighting poles under medium and high-voltage networks. The work includes removing the old asphalt layer, conducting patch repairs, and repaving the road with a 5 cm thick asphalt mix. Additionally, reflectors and hot thermoplastic road markings will be installed to enhance traffic safety. With a budget of approximately 500,000 Jordanian dinars allocated by the Zarqa Governorate Council (Decentralization Program), the project is expected to be completed within 20 days. Maintenance of Hashimiyah-Khaw Road (1.3 km) The ministry has also started work on the Hashimiyah-Khaw Road, stretching 1.3 kilometers near Prince Mohammad City for Youth, toward the Vocational Training traffic signal. The project involves milling the old asphalt and repaving it with a 5 cm layer, along with installing traffic signs and hot road markings. The project cost is estimated at 100,000 dinars and is expected to be completed in the coming days. Renovation of Bireen–Al-Alouk Road (3.5 km) Three days ago, the ministry began maintenance of the secondary Bireen–Al-Alouk Road at a cost of 200,000 dinars. The project includes repaving the 3.5-kilometer road and installing traffic safety elements. Completion is expected by the end of next week. These projects aim to improve road quality and facilitate smoother traffic flow, with a particular focus on safety enhancements to reduce accidents. This step is part of the ministry's continuous efforts to develop road networks across the governorates in cooperation with local councils. It is worth noting that Zarqa Governorate experiences heavy traffic due to its strategic location, necessitating regular road maintenance to ensure the safety of road users.
