'I was a huge star in 1990s but devastating diagnosis forced me out of limelight'

Alannah Myles was propelled to fame in the early 1990s with her iconic hit Black Velvet, but 36 years after releasing her self-titled debut album, the singer has been through a hidden struggle Rewinding over 30 years, soft rock enthusiasts couldn't get enough of the Canadian songstress Alannah Myles and her legendary anthem 'Black Velvet'. The single catapulted Myles to international fame, topping charts in the United States and earning her the prestigious Grammy Award. However, 36 years on from her eponymous debut album, Alannah has endured unseen battles away from the spotlight. ‌ Her ascent to fame largely came on the back of 'Black Velvet', an ode to Elvis Presley, its lyrics a poignant representation of his life and charm. It's said that the inspiration for 'Black Velvet' struck Alannah after she visited Memphis for the 10th anniversary of the King of Rock n Roll's passing. ‌ Reflecting in 2021, the artist remarked: "It is a country blues song with a chorus, ushering in a time when country music won the hearts of the masses away from disco, punk, and grunge music. If it was a crappy song no one would remember it." The track hasn't just garnered a staggering 358 million streams on Spotify; it also impressed the critics, bagging the award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance at the 1991 Grammys in addition to multiple Juno Awards on her home turf, reports the Mirror US. Facing immense anticipation for her follow-up release, Alannah presented her second album 'Rockinghorse', which featured renowned tracks such as 'Our World Our Times' and 'Song Instead of a Kiss'. She would indeed receive another Grammy nomination, but her subsequent album didn't quite reach the success of her initial release. Following two more albums in the 90s, 'Alannah' and 'A Rival', she took a hiatus from music. In subsequent years, Myles encountered significant health hurdles that drastically affected her life. ‌ In 2017, the singer sustained a severe leg injury that was far from a minor inconvenience, severely limiting her mobility and confining her largely to her home for an extended period. Allanah was also diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis, an auto-immune condition affecting spinal joints. This ailment can lead to intense stiffness and pain in her back during routine activities and even cause discomfort as she sits. In a conversation with City News, she disclosed: "Now I have issues with being able to sit. That's why when you see me in concert, you see me on a chair. I'm sitting upright. It's painful for me to sit down, so I can't really go anywhere. "I can't sit in a wheelchair. I can't go to a concert, parties, or even medical visits without a padded stretcher. I have no life now as a result of not being able to get myself up independently which makes it only worse... I can get up to walk, but I need help doing it." Despite the disease affecting her physical health, Alannah remained resilient and continued to produce new music. In 2018, she reunited her former band and re-recorded some of her iconic hits, independently releasing them separate from her previous label.

P-Diddy's sex trafficking trial hears defence closing argyments. However, the disgraced music mogul faces a fresh rape accusations in new lawsuit. P Diddy and his son, Justin Combs have been accused of rape in a brand new law suit. The shamed star's current trial, in which he is accused of sex-trafficking, is being presented with te defence's closing arguments today. However, Diddy - real name, Sean Combs - faces fresh allegations, this time, along with his son. As per documents obtained by the Mirror US, a woman from Louisiana claims she connected with Justin, 33, on Snapchat, before she was invited to California where she was told she could further her career in the entertainment industry, reports the Mirror. ‌ She has accused Justin of luring her to his Los Angeles mansion in 2017 to be raped by his father, 55, and two other 'masked men.' ‌ The woman alleges she was offered pills, alcohol and marijuana before the three men arrived at the property, one of whom she claims to believe was Diddy. The rape was said to have lasted several hours. Diddy's lawyer denies the allegations. Diddy's team told the Mirror US, 'No matter how many lawsuits are filed it won't change the fact that Mr. Combs has never sexually assaulted or sex trafficked anyone—man or woman, adult or minor. We live in a world where anyone can file a lawsuit for any reason. Fortunately, a fair and impartial judicial process exists to find the truth, and Mr. Combs is confident he will prevail in court." It comes as the I'll Be Missing You star's bombshell sex trafficking trial nears its end. Prosecutors finished their closing arguments on Thursday after five hours. On Thursday, the prosecution argued to the jury that Combs is the "leader of a criminal enterprise", who used violence and fear in "brutal crimes." ‌ Defence attorney, Marc Agnifilo, told the jury it's important to remember that none of the alleged victims called the police, as the defence's closing arguments began today. Instead, Cassie Ventura filed a lawsuit against Combs for $33m (£22m), of which she won $20m. The federal case was spurred by that lawsuit, so if Combs wasn't rich, there would be no federal criminal trial, he said. "He's a self-made successful black entrepreneur," he added, saying: "He's built wonderful, sophisticated businesses." ‌ Agnifilo also reminded the jury that Jane - an ex-girlfriend of Combs who testified against him under a pseudonym - is still living in a house that Combs pays for. "Jane came here and testified against him…I don't know what she's doing today, but whatever she's doing it's in a house he paid for. He takes care of people," Agnifilo added. Early on in the trial, the twins were present to support their father, even sharing a social media post saying, 'The past month has devastated our family. Many have judged both him and us based on accusations, conspiracy theories, and false narratives that have spiralled into absurdity on social media.' Diddy denies any wrongdoing in the federal charges brought against him.

Despite receiving a perfect 100 per cent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the 2019 indie film saw modest box-office returns, earning just $57,188 globally. Attanasio not only directed but also wrote the screenplay for the film, garnering critical acclaim; one critic hailed it as "a rare and remarkable feat to pull off so well for a first-time director". ‌ Another review praised the film, stating: "Filmmaker Annabelle Attanasio's debut film is an honest and empathetic look at the toughest parts of someone's upbringing with incredible performances from its two stars." ‌ Mickey and the Bear delves into the life of teenager Mickey Peck and her complex relationship with her opioid-dependent, war veteran father, Hank. Set against the backdrop of Anaconda, a small town in Montana, the film explores the intense bond between Mickey and her father, marked by love, volatility, and toxicity, while highlighting Mickey's internal struggle between family loyalty and her aspiration for independence and a brighter future. Dale and Morrone's intense portrayals garnered acclaim from both critics and audiences, as noted by a reviewer: "James Badge Dale and Camila Morrone are achingly real here. The film's script gives them plenty to do, and both ace their difficult roles." One admirer expressed delight in the performances: "Absolutely amazing, Camila is a rising star." Echoing the sentiment, a viewer appreciated the unexpected experience: "I went in without even watching the trailer and was blown away. Strong acting from Morrone and Badge Dale. Wouldn't be surprised to see it win an award." ‌ The film's star, Camila Morrone, comes from an illustrious acting pedigree as the daughter of Argentine actors Lucila Solá and Maximo Morrone, and stepdaughter to Al Pacino, reports the Mirror US. Discussing her role, Morrone shared with Forbes: "I read a lot of scripts, but few of them stand out to me. So for me, it was that when I read the script, I didn't even get through it, and I was like, 'this is something I want to do.' I could just tell it had the elements of characters that I'm interested in playing. So I was already instantly drawn to it." ‌ The film has captivated viewers, with one singing high praises for rookie director Attanasio: "I was sceptical before seeing Mickey and the Bear, as I am with all movies that score such high ratings... but after 15 minutes I was convinced of Annabelle Attanasio's raw talent to write dialogue and knack for layered storytelling. For such a young writer she has skill and knowledge way beyond her years." One enthusiastic fan exclaimed: "Absolutely the best movie I've seen all year. Everyone needs to see this film, ESPECIALLY while it's in theaters. Not to be missed!". Additionally, another cinema-goer commented: "Fantastic acting, writing, and filming makes this group of newcomers top notch."

Cannibal killer mutilates bodies, eats heart, cuts off penis then sets victims on fire

Jason Thornburg, 44, was sentenced to death after a jury convicted him of the gruesome murders of three people in Tarrant County, Texas, and he also confessed to two other killings A 44 year old man has been handed a death sentence in Tarrant County, Texas after being found guilty by a jury of the horrific murders of three individuals. In addition to executing the savage killings, he also dismembered his victims and set their bodies alight. ‌ Over a seven-day period in September 2021, Jason Thornburg took the lives of David Lueras, 42, Maricruz Mathis, 33, and Lauren Phillips, 34, later claiming the trio needed to be sacrificed for religious purposes. ‌ During the lengthy trial, chilling details emerged about what transpired at the Mid City Inn in Euless. The three victims were separately lured into the room Thornburg was renting and subsequently murdered. The killer slit the throats of two of the victims and strangled Phillips before sexually violating her lifeless body. He also consumed part of David's heart and severed his penis, reports the Mirror US. Once the victims were dead, Thornburg dismembered their bodies in the motel bathtub and stashed their remains in rubbish bags under the bed. In the early hours of September 22, the murderer transported their body parts, which he had stored in plastic storage tubs, to a dumpster on Bonnie Drive in Fort Worth. He deposited the remains inside the dumpster, ignited them and then fled the scene. Firefighters were summoned to the blaze and extinguished the fire, where they discovered the victims' burnt bodies. ‌ Law enforcement caught Jason Allen Thornburg after footage showed his Jeep Grand Cherokee near the dumpster he set ablaze with bodies inside. He even meticulously returned the tubs used to transport the bodies to the shop they were purchased from, demonstrating a chilling level of detachment. At the trial, evidence of events at the motel convinced the jury of Thornburg's ongoing threat to society, leading them to sentence him to death after just five hours of deliberation. As the verdict was declared, Thornburg remained silent. Following the conviction, the trial judge declared: "Therefore, Jason Allen Thornburg, you have been adjudged by a jury to be guilty of capital murder. And the juror has answered the special issues making it mandatory that your punishment be death. Therefore, this court sentences you, Jason Allen Thornburgh, to death." ‌ The ruling and death sentence are automatically referred to the Court of Criminal Appeals for review. If confirmed, Thornburg will await execution in state custody, a process that can span several years on death row. Astoundingly, upon his arrest for the motel slayings, Thornburg reportedly admitted to authorities his involvement in two additional murders. Thornburg is alleged to have confessed to law enforcement that he murdered his 61 year old flatmate, Mark Jewell, who died in a suspicious house explosion in May 2021, and his ex-girlfriend Tanya Begay in Arizona back in 2017. Firefighters discovered Jewell's body following a gas explosion at the Fort Worth residence. Begay vanished in March 2017 after last being seen with Thornburg. According to Fox 4 reports, the FBI still considers the case open as her body has never been found.
