Patna hospital murder case: Main accused among 4 arrested in Kolkata
Kolkata: The Patna Police, on Sunday, have shown as arrested four of the ten people, who were detained from two different places in Kolkata in connection with the murder of a gangster, Chandan Mishra, in a Patna hospital recently. The four shown as arrested on Sunday by Patna Police include one of the prime accused, Tauseef a.k.a. Badshah, his associate Nishu Khan, and two others. Ten people were detained from two different places in Kolkata, namely New Town in the northern outskirts of Kolkata and Anandapur in the southern outskirts of the city, on Saturday, following joint operations by Patna Police and the sleuths of the Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police. The detained persons were taken to Patna on Saturday night. Sources from Kolkata Police said that the murder of Chandan Kumar alias Chandan Mishra was a result of his rivalry with another Bihar-based gangster, Sheroo, who is presently lodged in a correctional home in West Bengal's Purulia district. It is suspected that Sheroo had masterminded the murder from the Purulia prison and hired Tauseef alias Badshah and his team as contract killers for the murder. As per information accessed by the investigators so far, the ten detained people from Kolkata were directly involved in the murder of Chandan Kumar alias Chandan Mishra, a murder convict who was out on medical parole. Mishra was shot dead by five armed assailants inside the ICU of a private hospital in Patna on July 17. He was lodged at Beur Jail in Patna and had gone to the hospital for treatment on parole. At least 24 cases were pending against Mishra in several police stations of the Buxar district in Bihar. He was serving a sentence in one of those cases. According to the police, Mishra was killed a day before he was scheduled to be released from the hospital.

5 ‘shooters' arrested in Kolkata for Patna gangster hospital killing
5 men gun down Chandan Mishra in ICU Five men linked to killing of murder convict Chandan Mishra in a Patna private hospital on July 17 were arrested in a guest house in Kolkata's Anandapur late Saturday by a joint team of Bihar SIT and Bengal STF. A white sedan used to flee Patna was also seized. Four of them were seen on CCTV entering and exiting Room 209 on Paras HMRI Hospital's second floor, where gangster Mishra, 36, from Bihar's Buxar was shot multiple times. He was on parole for liver surgery. Their capture came more than 12 hours after five others were detained at a housing complex in Kolkata's New Town for allegedly aiding the gang's movement. All 10 are being questioned. Bihar Police identified the alleged gang leader as Tauseef Badshah and alerted Bengal counterparts with details of the fleeing vehicle seen on Durgapur Expressway. Tauseef reportedly made a phone call upon reaching New Town Friday, seeking shelter in Sukhobrishti but was turned away. He contacted a broker for accommodation, but was again denied. The group then moved to Anandapur. Traffic CCTV picked up their vehicle, prompting a raid. 'All five had changed SIMs, but we tracked their new numbers using IMEI data,' said a policeman. Five Bihar policemen posted at Shastri Nagar PS — under whose jurisdiction the hospital falls — were suspended for dereliction of duty, said Patna SP (central) Diksha.

Patna hospital murder: 10 picked up for questioning in Bengal as search for shooters widens
Identified but still elusive, the police had cast a wider net to nab the assailants who shot dead a convict inside a hospital in Patna. On Saturday morning, five persons were picked up for questioning after two flats were raided in the New Town area in the outskirts of Kolkata during a joint operation conducted by the Bihar Police and the West Bengal Police, sources said. While the police were questioning the five persons, they got a tip-off about five more persons staying at a guest house in Anandapur. They were also taken in for questioning at Lalbazar, the Kolkata Police headquarters. According to a police source, a car has also been seized. On July 17, in the high-security Paras Hospital in Patna, where security protocols are in place that involves frisking of visitors, five men, all carrying guns, shot dead 36-year-old Chandan Mishra, a notorious criminal out on parole, in his hospital room at 7.15 am and vanished on their motorcycles. According to the police, Mishra had been serving a life sentence in businessman Rajendra Kumar murder case. He had over 24 criminal cases registered against him, including charges of murder, conspiracy, extortion, arms violations, and offences under the Prisoners Act and IT Act, spanning multiple police stations across Buxar, Dumraon, and Arrah districts of Bihar. According to police sources, the five persons, who were picked up from the New Town area, had been reportedly staying on rent in two separate flats for the past six to seven months. The police have found that the five had spoken on the phone to the prime accused, and that is why they are being questioned, sources said. Bihar Police were scrutinising CCTV footage when they saw the accused entering Bengal and extended their search to the neighbouring state. Sources said they are now looking into CCTV footage of the National Highways and of the building complex to find any clue about the movement of the prime accused. Chandan, a resident of Buxar district, was arrested by the STF in Kolkata in 2014 and shifted to Buxar Central Jail. From there, he was shifted to Bhagalpur Central Jail. 5 cops suspended Five policemen were on Saturday suspended for dereliction of duty in connection with the murder of gangster Chandan Mishra in a Patna hospital, a senior officer said. The suspended personnel include a sub-inspector, two ASIs, and two constables. 'They have been suspended with immediate effect for dereliction of duty in connection with the murder of the convict inside a top private hospital on Thursday. The personnel were posted at Shastri Nagar police station,' Patna (Central) Superintendent of Police Diksha told PTI. Mishra, a resident of Buxar district of Bihar, was shot dead by gunmen inside the hospital on Thursday morning. He was a murder convict out on parole. Also, three more policemen – an SI and two ASIs — were suspended for laxity during their normal deployments at different places in the state capital. These suspensions were not related to the murder case. While an SI posted at Kargil Chowk near Gandhi Maidan was suspended, two ASIs — one of Gardani Bagh police station and another posted at Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) — were suspended for dereliction of duty, a statement issued by the office of the Patna (Central) SP said. Five held near Kolkata in Patna hospital murder case; prime accused escapes
At least five people have been arrested from New Town near Kolkata in connection with the murder of gangster Chandan Mishra in a Patna hospital, police said on Saturday. However, the prime suspects, who were allegedly hiding in the city managed to flee, prompting police to launch a renewed search operation, a senior officer claimed. The five arrested, who were apprehended from a housing complex in the satellite township of the metropolis following raids conducted jointly by the Bihar Police and the West Bengal Special Task Force (STF) in the early hours of Saturday, were "providing logistics" to the five main accused who killed Mishra, an officer said. According to CCTV camera footage, the prime suspects escaped the city in a white vehicle, which was spotted passing through Basanti Highway near here, the officer said. The vehicle was later seen moving through the jurisdictions of three police stations - Anandapur, Kolkata Leather Complex, and Bhangar, he added. Police have begun questioning the five arrested accused, who were living in two separate flats in the housing complex in New Town area, the officer said, adding that their mobile phones and other documents have been seized. During Saturday's raid conducted around 5.38 am, one person was arrested from a place outside the housing complex, and after questioning him, four others were held from inside two flats, he said. "These people supposedly helped the criminals in hiding and also in their transportation. We are checking their call lists, their WhatsApp messenger chats in connection with our probe into the matter," the officer said. Mishra, a resident of Buxar district of Bihar, was shot dead by gunmen inside a private hospital in Patna on Thursday morning. He was a murder convict out on parole. "Their mobile phone tower location helped us track them. Bihar Police will produce them before a local court, seeking transit remand," he said. A purported CCTV footage of the incident, which went viral on social media, showed five armed men entering the ICU of the hospital and opening fire at Mishra. Mishra was lodged at Beur Jail and had gone to the hospital for treatment on parole, police said, adding that he was involved in 24 criminal cases, including over 12 murder cases. SP Patna (Central) Diksha had told PTI on Friday that a probe is underway as to how the criminals managed to reach the room where Mishra was admitted without any security check. "This raises serious questions over the security arrangements at the hospital. Five unmasked armed assailants reached the second floor, opened fire at Mishra, and fled the premises. Investigators are certainly looking into any complicity that may have led to the security lapse," she had said.
