Woman critically hurt by falling tree in Almonte has died
A 34-year-old woman who was badly injured when she was struck by a falling tree in Almonte last week has died, according to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). The woman was walking near the intersection of Ann and Church streets around 8:20 a.m. on July 8 when the tree fell, police said on social media. She was rushed to hospital in critical condition. OPP said on Monday the woman had died from her injuries. She was from Mississippi Mills, the eastern Ontario township that includes Almonte, but police did not share her name. The investigation is ongoing, OPP said Monday. The coroner's office is also involved.

Ontario Provincial Police say a 34-year-old woman is in critical condition in hospital after a tree fell on her in Almonte Tuesday morning. OPP say it happened at around 8:21 a.m. as the woman was walking across the intersection of Ann and Church streets. Police initially identified the victim as a 16-year-old girl, but later edited posts on social media to say she is actually 34 years old. 'We had earlier indicated the victim was 16 due to an issue with identification. The victim is indeed 34,' the OPP said in a comment on their Facebook post. The Township of Mississippi Mills is asking residents to avoid the area of area of Elgin, Church, Ann and High streets in Almonte, as roads are closed. OPP say roads are expected to be closed for several hours for the investigation.

Boy dies after being struck by school bus in Almonte, Ont.
Social Sharing A nine-year-old boy has died after being struck by a school bus full of other kids in Almonte, Ont., according to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). On Wednesday afternoon, the police service said on X that it was investigating a serious collision on Paterson Street. At the scene, OPP officer Corey Noonan said the boy who died was a student of R. Tait McKenzie Public School on Paterson Street and was riding a bike at the time of the collision around 3:40 p.m. Police have notified his family. CBC has contacted the Upper Canada District School Board, which represents the school. Almonte is located about 50 kilometres southwest of Ottawa and is part of the Township of Mississippi Mills. The OPP said Paterson Street, which is also home to another school, will be closed for several hours while police investigate. The public is being asked to avoid the area.
