School horror: 13-year-old dies after touching power line in Kerala
Thiruvananthapuram: A 13-year-old Class VIII student of Thevalakkara Boys High School in Kollam was electrocuted on Thursday morning after coming into contact with a low-lying power line in the school compound. The incident happened around 9.15am. The deceased, identified as Mithun of Manu Bhavanam, Vilanthara, West Kallada, touched the power line while trying to retrieve a slipper that fell on the roof of a cycle shed adjacent to the school building during a football game. Mithun allegedly used a desk to climb onto the roof of the shed from the classroom. He slipped on the wet roof and came into contact with the live wire, police said. Mithun was rushed to Parippally Medical College Hospital, but could not be saved. Sasthamcotta police have registered a case of unnatural death under Section 194 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The boy's father, Manu, a daily-wage worker, had dropped him at school in the morning. His mother, Suja, is a housemaid in Kuwait. Residents alleged lapses on the part of KSEB and school management, claiming that the accident happened because the shed was built dangerously close to three-phase power lines running above the school ground. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This Could Be the Best Time to Trade Gold in 5 Years IC Markets Learn More Undo The shed was reportedly constructed eight years ago. Opposition parties staged protests against the school management, controlled by an elected committee. An effigy of general education minister V Sivankutty was also burned. Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said a thorough examination would be conducted into the incident. In a statement, he said all necessary precautions would be taken to prevent such incidents in future. An inspection by the electrical inspectorate found that the overhead power lines were at a height of 4.28m, while the minimum required height is 4.6m. Construction beneath power lines is illegal, but the school management built the shed without permission, electricity minister K Krishnankutty said, adding that the lines were at "a dangerous position from the ground" and no action was taken to shift them or increase their height despite the known risk. The school management had earlier alleged that KSEB ignored the request given to shift the power lines despite several reminders. KSEB will provide an interim relief of Rs 5 lakh to the bereaved family, Krishnankutty said. He has directed the chief electrical inspector to submit an inquiry report within ten days. The director and deputy director of education visited the school and a report on the incident will be submitted soon. "Based on the report, suitable action will be initiated against the officials responsible. How did the building obtain a fitness certificate despite being in such a dangerous condition? Everything will be examined," general education minister V Sivankutty said. Minister for local self-govts M B Rajesh said lapses, if any, on the part of the local panchayat would also be examined. The body was shifted to Sasthamcotta taluk hospital mortuary after autopsy at Parippally MCH. The funeral will be held after his mother's arrival. "Suja works with a Kuwaiti family and is now in Turkey with them. We have not been able to contact her," relative Mukundan M said.

'That's how I got Bhrashtachar, and I started working in the film industry . So I have to say that I got this opportunity because of Dada (Mithun) and I am here because of him.' Shilpa has immense gratitude towards Mithun Chakraborty till date. She describes her feelings towards him as 'full of love, respect, and ever so grateful.' But even with his support, stepping onto a film set alongside him was intimidating for the newcomer. She admitted to feeling the pressure of performing opposite someone she owed her break to. 'He was a senior to me and during shooting, I would reach the set in the morning and I would start preparing and giving my solo shots and Dada would come in the afternoon for the combination shots,' she said. 'But I used to be under so much pressure to not give retakes that I would give the shots while being scared.' Despite her nerves, their on-screen chemistry clicked. When Mithun noticed her discomfort, he asked her about it. Shilpa confessed, 'I told him that I don't want to give retakes in front of him, and he told me that I am crazy.'

HC reserves order on YSRCP MP's anticipatory bail plea
Vijayawada: The high court on Thursday reserved orders in the anticipatory bail petition filed by YSRCP MP P Mithun Reddy in the alleged liquor scam case. While the prosecution argued that Mithun played a key role in the scam, the counsel for Mithun argued that no prima facie case was made out regarding his role. Arguing on behalf of the special investigation team, senior counsel Siddharth Luthra said SIT identified suspicious money transactions in the accounts of PLR Projects Pvt Ltd, in which Mithun has a substantial interest. He said Rs 5 crore was deposited into the account of PLR from a company involved in the scam. Luthra further stated that Mithun was an erstwhile director in the company and a director in an entity called Shiv Shakti, which is a subsidiary of PLR. "Mithun played a key role in doing away with the automatic order system and introducing manual order placement to favour select companies. On the other hand, distilleries were forcefully taken over, virtually taking control over the entire process from production to sales," he told the court. Arguing on behalf of Mithun, senior counsel T Niranjan Reddy said the SIT has not produced any concrete material to make out a prima facie case. He stated that Mithun had nothing to do with PLR and pointed out that a Rs 5 crore transaction between two companies took place in 2021, which cannot be any ground to level allegations against his client. All the allegations being levelled against Mithun are hearsay, as the prosecution did not place any material on record to substantiate them, he argued. Considering the arguments on both sides, the high court reserved orders.
