When Mimoh revealed father Mithun Chakraborty didn't help with his film debut: ‘He didn't make me feel like a star kid'
Mimoh Chakraborty, son of veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty, didn't enjoy the same smooth entry into the film industry as his father once did. His 2008 debut film Jimmy was both a critical and commercial failure. Yet, those familiar with Bollywood in the late 2000s will vividly remember the buzz surrounding his launch. In an old interview with Lehren Retro, given during the promotions of Jimmy, Mimoh opened up about his entry into films, and how his legendary father took a hands-off approach to his acting career. Mimoh said, 'Mithun Chakraborty, as a father, was always there for me, always helped me. He taught me how to walk, how to talk. Even as a father, he taught me how to dance and act. But purely as an actor, Mithun Chakraborty never helped me. Because he is very professional and practical, he never came to my film set. Even if he would have come for some time, he would never meet me, just meet the director and leave. He wanted me to be the judge of myself and learn from my mistakes, just like every actor does—just like he did when he began. He didn't make me feel like a star kid; he wanted me to feel like a newcomer. As a father, he taught me a lot, especially improved my dancing, and whatever he taught has helped me a lot while making Jimmy.' His next two films went unreleased, and the only notable box office success he found was with Haunted – 3D. More recently, he appeared in Jogira Sara Ra Ra alongside Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Neha Sharma, but the film also failed to make an impact commercially.
