Not terrorist: Mother of arrested Jagan Reddy's party MP seeks fair jail treatment
The mother of YSR Congress Party MP and remand prisoner Mithun Reddy, made an emotional appeal on Monday after visiting her son at the Rajahmundry Central Jail, where he is currently lodged in connection with the high-profile Andhra Pradesh liquor by her daughter Shakti Reddy and son-in-law Akhil Reddy, Swarnalatha met Mithun during the scheduled mulakath (prison visit). Emerging from the jail premises, she broke down while speaking to son is holding up bravely, and I pray to God to give him strength," she said tearfully. YSRCP alleges largest liquor scam in Andhra under Naidu govt
Amaravati, July 23 (PTI) YSRCP leader Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy on Wednesday accused the Andhra Pradesh government of orchestrating the 'country's largest-ever liquor scam" under Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. Speaking to media after visiting his son and Rajampet MP Mithun Reddy in Rajamahendravaram central jail, he alleged that the TDP-led government has revived illicit liquor trade, turning Andhra Pradesh into 'Madhyandhra Pradesh" (alcoholic state) rife with corruption. 'The ruling coalition government is orchestrating the largest liquor scam in the country's history and plunging Andhra Pradesh into a state of corruption and mismanagement," said Ramachandra Reddy, addressing a press conference. The previous YSRCP government ensured that liquor sales were tightly regulated through government-run outlets, which led to a significant reduction in sales while increasing state revenue by Rs 25,000 crore annually, pointed out Ramachandra Reddy. He claimed that revenue from liquor sales during previous TDP regime, between 2014 to 2019, was only Rs 17,000 crore despite logging higher sales. The former minister alleged that under the present Naidu dispensation, liquor privatisation, retail price violations, door deliveries and belt shops (unlicensed liquor shos) have allegedly made a comeback. The YSRCP leader condemned the registration of what he termed as 'false" cases against party leaders, comparing the TDP-led government to Taliban rule. He alleged that Mithun Reddy is being denied legal jail amenities and warned of legal action if statutory facilities are not ensured for jailed representatives. Andhra liquor scam: Mithun will come clean as it's a false case, says YSRCP leader Peddireddy
TIRUPATI: Senior YSRCP leader and former minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy strongly condemned the arrest of his son and Rajampet MP Mithun Reddy in the liquor scam case. In a video released on Sunday, Peddireddy termed the arrest of Mithun Reddy vindictive politics. He accused Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh of making attempts to destabilise the opposition YSRCP in the State. 'The TDP-led NDA government has resorted to revenge politics against Mithun Reddy. In the past, he was falsely accused of assaulting an airport manager, and arrested. But that case did not stand the legal scrutiny. This case will also meet the same fate,' he said. Mithun Reddy, a three-time MP, was falsely implicated in the liquor case because of his good relations with YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, he said. 'We have done nothing wrong. Mithun Reddy will emerge clean,' Peddireddy asserted.

Liquor scam mastermind will be revealed soon: Andhra Min Kollu Ravindra
ANANTAPUR: Reacting to Rajampet MP Mithun Reddy's arrest, Minister for Excise Kollu Ravindra has said the liquor scam during the previous YSRCP regime is the largest in the country, with small players being exposed, but the main culprit will soon be brought to light. He expressed surprise at the extent of corruption that had taken place, and noted that the State had incurred debts of over Rs 10 lakh crore. Projects like Polavaram and Amaravati were stalled, and there were instances of illegal arrests, atrocities, and looting during the previous regime, he said. The Excise Minister participated in the Suparipalanalo Toli Adugu programme held at Kanaganapalli Mandal Centre of Sri Sathya Sai district on Sunday. He also took part in several other development programmes. On the occasion, he reiterated that the mastermind behind the liquor scam will soon be revealed, emphasising the government's commitment to uncovering the truth. Ravindra recalled his own experience of being arrested and jailed for 53 days, along with many other TDP leaders who faced similar treatment during the YSRCP regime.

YSRCP MP Midhun Reddy remanded in liquor scam
Vijayawada: The Vijayawada ACB (Anti-Corruption Bureau) Court on Sunday remanded in judicial custody YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) MP Mitdhun Reddy, designating him as Accused No. 4 in connection with the alleged Rs 3,500 crore Andhra Pradesh liquor scam. He will remain in custody until August 1. Following the Court's order, CID police transferred Midhun Reddy to the Rajahmundry Central Jail. The remand comes after the CID's Special Investigation Team (SIT) took Mithun Reddy into custody on Saturday before producing him in court on Sunday. Earlier on Sunday morning, SIT officials took Mithun Reddy to a government hospital in Vijayawada, where doctors conducted medical examination. "The medical team found no health complications; hence, he was presented before the court as per legal protocol," the police official In the remand report submitted to the court, the CID officials outlined the grounds for Midhun Reddy's arrest: A case has been registered under sections 409 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating), 120(B) (criminal conspiracy) read with sections 34 (common intention) and 37 (cooperation by doing one of several acts constituting an offence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Additionally, sections 7, 7A, 8, and 13(1) of the Prevention of Corruption Act have been invoked. The FIR details alleged irregularities committed by the accused in the implementation of the Andhra Pradesh's Excise Policy between 2019 and 2024. The CID claims these irregularities were part of a conspiracy to procure undue financial advantage from distilleries and liquor suppliers, directly causing significant loss to the government exchequer. YSRCP leaders slam arrest YSRCP leaders called the arrest as 'targeting of Opposition voice'. Sources in the party said: "We have vowed to fight back with stronger determination, TDP-led NDA government is targeting opposition voices unfairly". YSRCP chief and former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy condemned the arrest of Midhun Reddy. "This is nothing but a political conspiracy designed to silence those who stand with the people," said Jagan Mohan Reddy in a post on X. Midhun Reddy represents Rajampet constituency in Andhra Pradesh.
