Mitsubishi Electric's ME Innovation Fund Invests in AI-assisted PLM Systems Startup 'Things'
TOKYO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (TOKYO: 6503) announced today that its ME Innovation Fund has invested in Things, Inc., a Japan-based startup that develops and provides AI-assisted product lifecycle management (PLM) systems for manufacturing, specializing in comprehensive document management from product planning to development to disposal. This is the twelfth investment that the fund has made to date. Through this investment, Mitsubishi Electric aims to integrate its extensive manufacturing and control expertise with Things' generative AI technology to accelerate the development of digital transformation (DX) solutions that address various manufacturing challenges. In recent years, Japan's manufacturing industry has faced labor shortages, the aging of skilled technicians and other challenges that are inhibiting skills transfer. In response, DX initiatives such as the implementation of PLM and other digital systems have advanced rapidly, but have encountered issues regarding development time, cost, usability and scalability. Things introduced its 'PRISM' PLM system in May 2023 to leverage generative AI to improve the structure and usage of information in manufacturing. PRISM offers significant cost and scalability advantages for enhancing user interfaces and experiences, and for effectively implementing proofs of concept (PoCs) across a wide range of companies.

Mitsubishi Electric Develops Edge-device Language Model for Domain-specific Manufacturing
TOKYO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (TOKYO: 6503) announced today that it has developed a language model tailored for manufacturing processes operating on edge devices. The Maisart ® -branded AI technology has been pre-trained with data from Mitsubishi Electric's internal operations, enabling it to support a wide range of applications in specific manufacturing domains. In addition, the model leverages a uniquely developed data-augmentation technique to generate responses optimized for user-specific applications. The widespread adoption of generative AI is accelerating the use of large language models (LLMs). However, the significant computational and energy costs associated with LLMs are a growing concern. Additionally, there is increasing demand for generative AI solutions that can operate in on-premises environments due to data privacy and confidential information management requirements. In response, Mitsubishi Electric has developed a domain-specific language model by training a publicly available Japanese base model with the company's proprietary data from its own business domains, including factory automation (FA). Using training data generated through the company's original augmentation techniques enabled effective, task-specific fine-tuning. The resulting model is compact enough to run on limited hardware resources, making it suitable for environments with constrained computing capabilities such as edge devices, as well as for on-premises operations such as call centers that handle sensitive customer information.

Mitsubishi Electric Achieves World's First Performance Verification of GaN Power Amplifier Module for 5G-Advanced Base Stations
Compact, high-efficiency module will enhance installation ease and power efficiency TOKYO, June 12, 2025--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (TOKYO: 6503) announced today that it has developed a world's first compact 7GHz band gallium nitride (GaN) power amplifier module (PAM) with the world's highest power efficiency, which is expected to enhance the ease of installation as well as the power efficiency of 5G-Advanced base stations and thereby support the transition to 6G. Mitsubishi Electric successfully verified its new PAM's performance in a demonstration using 5G-Advanced communication signals for the first time in the world. Mitsubishi Electric developed its 7GHz GaN PAM using proprietary matching-circuit technology and high-performance GaN transistors. The compact module measures only 12.0mm x 8.0mm (prototype) thanks to the high-density mounting of components, which will enhance the installation efficiency of 5G-Advanced base stations. Going forward, Mitsubishi Electric will continue research and development aimed at the practical application of the PAM in 5G-Advanced base stations. Technical details will be presented at the IEEE International Microwave Symposium 2025, which will be held June 15–20 in San Francisco, CA, USA. In addition, a joint live demonstration with Wupatec will be conducted at the event's exhibition venue.
