The two individuals jumped into the Tiau river, which flows along the Indo-Myanmar border, and escaped to Myanmar, it said. The statement said that the seized Meth tablets worth Rs 112.40 crore were believed to be distributed in Champhai town. Methamphetamines are stimulants, a type of drug that lets people stay awake and do continuous activity with less need for sleep. The seized consignment was handed over to Mizoram Police in Zokhawthar for further investigation and legal proceedings, the statement added. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday chargesheeted five accused in a Mizoram case related to seizure of a huge cache of prohibited arms and ammunition meant for supply to a Bangladeshi militant group. The accused -- Lalbiakchunga alias Divid alias David, Lalthawmcheuva alias Thawma, Malsawma alias Malsawma Loncheu, Rualliansanga alias Sanga and Alok Bikash Chakma -- have been named in a chargesheet filed before a court in Aizawl. They have been charged under relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, the Arms Act, 1959 and the Foreigners Act, 1946, the NIA said in a statement. The case was originally registered on January 15, 2025 by Mizoram Police. The NIA, which took over and re-registered the case two months later, unravelled a criminal conspiracy by the accused to supply the prohibited weapons and ammunition to armed cadres of the UPDF (United Peoples Democratic Front) militant outfit based in Chittagong area in Bangladesh, it said. The weapons seized from Saithah village, Mamit district, Mizoram, include six AK 47 rifles, 13 magazines and 10,050 rounds of ammunition, the probe agency said, adding investigations in the case are continuing.

Aizawl: Mizoram Police's CID (special branch) officials and Border Security Force ( BSF ) personnel seized 3,008 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition at a place known as 'Nuthlawi Kawi', near Seling village in Saitual district on Tuesday, a senior police official said. The official said in a joint operation, CID and BSF officials intercepted a pickup truck near Seling village, seized the ammunition and detained the driver. Driver Lalawithanga (48), a resident of Zuangtui locality in Aizawl, claimed that he was not the owner. He said he was sent by a person from Bungtlang village in south Mizoram's Lawngtlai district, bordering Myanmar and Bangladesh, on a promise to pay Rs 1 lakh and he was given Rs 15,000 in advance. The rest of the amount was to be paid in Aizawl. The lone passenger in the vehicle claimed that he was travelling for medical treatment in Aizawl, the official said. He did not rule out the possible involvement of armed groups in Myanmar or Manipur or Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) of Bangladesh.

The suspect resides in College Veng neighbourhood, Aizawl. Following the suspect's statement, authorities raided a warehouse in Ramthar Veng, north Aizawl, alongside state health department drug inspectors. They discovered 1,292 additional bottles of codeine weighing 179.405kg. The total seizure of 1,889 bottles is valued at Rs 9,44,500 in local markets. Officials registered a case under section 22(c) of the ND&PS Act, 1985, at Special Narcotics Police Station, Aizawl. On Tuesday morning, Lunglei police apprehended Rohluzuala (37) from Theiriat, Lunglei, seizing 193.02 grams of heroin worth Rs 5,79,060 near Dawn village. The case was registered under section 21(b) ND&PS Act at Lunglei Police Station. On Monday night, Khawzawl police at Tuisenphai check gate seized 4.742kg of suspected methamphetamine (40,400 tablets) valued at Rs 61,64,600 from a taxi operated by Vanlaldampuia (26) from Tuipui, Champhai district. On Sunday morning, a joint operation by CID (Special Branch) and Special Narcotics Police Station at Seling, Aizawl district led to the seizure of 39.151kg of methamphetamine worth Rs. The drugs were found in a modified compartment of a 407 truck driven by Ramropuia (25) from Tahan, with Lalkrossmawia (41) from Letpanchaung as passenger. On Saturday, Saitual Police intercepted two vehicles driven by Joseph Vanlalhlana and Lalramthara (20) from Zokhawthar, discovering 1.142kg of heroin worth Rs 50 lakh concealed in a door frame. The investigation led to four additional arrests of Bittu Chhetry (20) from Bualpui Hmar veng, Naruj Jaman Laskar (18) from Lailapur, Lalpekmuani (28) and Rodinliani (33), both from Rangvamual Farm veng, at Tuikhurhlu and Seling checkpoints.
