Drip check! Kaizer Chiefs unveil 2025/26 kit - style tips to slay it on the streets
Whether you're cheering from the stands or stepping out in style, there are countless ways to rock your Amakhosi jersey with fashion flair. Image: Supplied The 2025/26 football season is here, and with it comes one of the most exciting traditions in the sport: new kits. Leading the charge in the Betway Premiership are Kaizer Chiefs, who recently unveiled their striking new home and away jerseys in collaboration with Italian technical sponsor Kappa. More than just match-day gear, the new designs draw inspiration from African culture, creativity and identity, making them a celebration of both heritage and style. The home jersey is a powerful nod to tradition. Dominated by the club's iconic gold, it features bold black sleeve patterns and a sleek black collar. It's a design that proudly honours the team's legacy, described by the club as 'unapologetically Kaizer Chiefs'. The away jersey, on the other hand, takes a daring step into fashion-forward territory. Featuring a stylish grey and gold colourway with camouflage-style textures, it draws influence from animal hides used in traditional African shields - a subtle yet strong reference to battle-readiness and pride. South African actor and a proud Amakhosi supporter, Wiseman Mncube, was among the first to showcase the jersey to fans. Sharing a photo of himself in the new kit, accessorised with dark shades, Mncube gushed: 'Allow me to introduce our beautiful new Kaizer Chiefs jersey... ishuuuu Motauuuuuuuuuung! Kaizer Chiefs and Kappa, you outdid yourselves. It's too much!' The jerseys have also drawn praise from fans across social media. One user wrote: 'Love this, I'm definitely getting it for Saturday's game.' A second user wrote: 'I rate it 10/10. As always, @kappa_sa never disappoints.' Another wrote: 'Okay, I like it. It might be my first ever Chiefs kit that I buy in my entire existence.' While a fourth stated: 'I'm not a Kaizer Chiefs fan, but Kappa ate here. The away jersey is 🔥.' Jessica Motaung, Chiefs' marketing and commercial director, highlighted the emotional connection behind the kits: 'We returned to our roots with the home jersey, staying true to the colours we are known for. The away jersey always allows us to play around a bit … it's a symbol of fashion, art and creativity.' Fans won't have to wait long to see the kits in action. The club will debut the new look on Saturday, July 26, when they face Asante Kotoko in the Toyota Cup at Moses Mabhida Stadium. Whether you're watching the match or hitting the streets, here's how to wear your Amakhosi jersey with fashion flair: Go oversized A size up is a style win. Rock an oversized jersey with baggy jeans or cargo pants. Add sneakers, and don't forget the confidence. This laid-back look channels effortless cool with a sporty edge. Crop it Cropped jerseys are trending hard, especially among Gen Z. DIY your jersey into a crop top or tie it in the back. Pair with high-waisted jeans, pleated mini skirts or bike shorts for a fashion-forward, sporty-chic moment. Accessorise Channel Mncube's look by adding shades, chains or a bucket hat. The jersey is your canvas - make it pop with personal flair. Mix it with tailored pieces For a high-fashion twist, pair your jersey with a blazer or tailored trousers. It's bold, stylish and front-row ready.

Senzo Meyiwa trial focuses on alleged intruder's gold tooth
The lead investigator in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, Brig Bongani Gininda, has told the Pretoria high court that no medical records could be found confirming whether one of the accused, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, had a gold tooth. Gininda testified that he had made attempts during the investigation to access Mncube's medical records from the correctional facility to establish whether he had a gold tooth when he was admitted. However, the records were never located. He said that it came to his attention that gold teeth are not always surgically fitted and can also be worn as removable grills. This is after a picture depicting Mncube was beamed in court and Gininda described that in the picture Mncube appears to be smiling with a shiny object on his upper teeth resembling gold. Some of the occupants in the house had said one of the intruders in the Vosloorus home when Meyiwa was murdered had a gold tooth. Meyiwa was with his girlfriend Kelly Khumalo at her mother's house in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni, and they were relaxing over lunch and watching a soccer match with Kelly's sister Zandile, Zandile's then-boyfriend Twala, and two of Meyiwa's friends who were visiting from KwaZulu-Natal. The occupants of the house told police that two robbers entered, demanding cash and cellphones, before Meyiwa was shot in a scuffle with one of the intruders. Mncube, Bongani Ntanzi, Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Mthokoziseni Maphisa and Fisokuhle Ntuli are on trial for Meyiwa's murder in October 2014. They face charges of murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition. On Thursday, Gininda also told the court that Twala was not a person of interest in the murder of the soccer star. This as advocate Charles Mnisi, representing Sibiya and Mncube, asked about the picture of bag of money found on Mncube, Twala and Kelly Khumalo's phones. He had testified that a similar picture depicting a bag of money was found on their phones. 'You cannot focus on a person as a person of interest solely because of one bag or one piece of evidence. When it comes to Miss Kelly Khumalo, and I've testified about this, there are number of things that came up that seem to point to her as being the trigger point, and that is why I then said she was then viewed, in so far as the investigation is concerned, as a person of interest and subsequent application for the J50.' Gininda previously testified that it had come up that Twala might have been the shooter, but he had to look at certain facts in the docket that led him to his conclusion that there were intruders.

Senzo Meyiwa murder trial to hear state's application to recall two witnesses
JOHANNESBURG - The Pretoria High Court will address an application by the state on Tuesday for the recalling of two witnesses in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial. The state wants to lead new photographic evidence as part of its case. On Monday prosecutor George Baloyi brought an application but the defence could not respond to it, as one of the lawyers were absent after participating in the Comrades Marathon. Five men are being tried for the football star's 2014 murder. The court may have continued without Advocate Charles Mnisi present but proceedings were still affected by his absence. Baloyi brought a formal application for two police officers to be recalled to testify about 19 photos found on the phones and memory cards belonging to accused, Muzi Sibiya, Bongani Ntanzi and Mthobisi Mncube. But Mnisi who represents Sibiya and Mncube was not in court to give an indication of his response to the application. Ntanzi's lawyer Sipho Ramosepele was standing in for Mnisi and he addressed the court. "With respect to Sibiya and Mncube they have requested me to implore the court to allow them the opportunity for Adv Mnisi to respond to the application because there is a further instruction, to respond to the application. Mncube who is represented by Mnisi told the court that he can only give instructions on the photo that the state plans to use against him, to Mnisi who is expected to be present in court on Tuesday after running the Comrades Marathon.

Wiseman Mncube on portraying King Zwide kaLanga in season 2 of Shaka iLembe
Wiseman Mncube brought KaLanga to life in his performance on Shaka iLembe. Wiseman Mncube's portrayal of the late King Zwide KaLanga on Shaka iLembe was one of the standout performances in the show's first season. History recounts KaLanga as one of the most ruthless and vicious rulers of his time. 'Before I even shot the show, people would tell me Zwide was like a lion…they would say he was ten times what Shaka was, people feared him [Zwide],' Mncube tells The Citizen. KaLanga is the second-born son of Queen Ntombazi, portrayed by Khabonina Qubeka. KaLanga was a ruler of the Ndwandwe (Nxumalo) nation. His reign is estimated to have lasted between 1802 and 1820. He was an adversary to Dingiswayo, the leader of the Mthethwa, and Shaka kaSenzangakhona, the founder of the Zulu Kingdom. 'Had Shaka not conquered Zwide, we would probably be speaking of the Ndwandwe nation, not the Zulu nation because of how big they were.' Mncube spoke to The Citizen at a media junket held in Johannesburg ahead of the second season of Mzansi Magic's Shaka iLembe. The follow-up season will premiere on Sunday, 15 June, at 8pm on Mzansi Magic. 'As I was portraying Zwide-and he had that intensity- I just had to allow that spirit of the character to take over you,'. 'I always say that you allow the story to take you where it's going…you allow that voice to direct you where it wants to go.' 'It's not easy. It may look like it's easy. He says his vulnerability helped him play the character as he did. 'People are afraid of going deep [into character], no one wants to be vulnerable in the world. ALSO READ: 'You want to respect him': Wiseman Mncube on portraying the life of kwaito star Mandoza Playing real-life characters Mncube's portrayal of KaLanga is not the first real-life character role he has played. A few years ago, he played Kwaito legend Mandoza in BET's The Life of Mandoza. One would assume it's easier to portray KaLanga as no one living in this generation saw him; playing Mandoza, who died in 2016, was more scrutinised. However, Mncube says similarly to how the first televised depiction of Shaka Zulu was by Henry Cele in the 1980s and how people instantly think of Cele when pondering Shaka Zulu, people will think of him when speaking about KaLanga., 'I could say for Mandoza it was hard and for Zwide it was easy, but it's not. I had to make a footprint with Zwide and set a certain standard,' he says. He adds that playing the role of KaLanga came with pressure, the more he learnt about the kind of king he was. 'I needed to make sure that I portray this man properly…even if I don't reach the heights he did in real life, but people should respect him, based on how they saw me portray him .' He says shooting the second season was slightly easier than the first. 'It's nicer [in season two] because we did the first layout and now I know and have something to play on for the second season.' The upcoming season has more fighting scenes, and Mncube enjoyed the shooting. 'I do enjoy action scenes. I'm an active person even though I'm an introvert and always in my corner, but I get to play in those kind of scenes.'
