Mobile's Alabama Task Force 1 search and rescue team deployed to Texas
MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey sent a search and rescue team, including members of Mobile Fire Rescue, to Texas to assist in rescue and recovery efforts on Thursday. Ivey's office, the state is sending a 40-person team that includes Alabama Task Force 1 from Mobile, the Tuscaloosa Fire Department and the Saraland Fire Department. The team includes members from different disciplines, including rescue, canine search, medical, hazmat, technical search and communications, according to the release. That multi-discipline tactic allows them to conduct search and rescue in all hazards, to include locating, accessing, medically stabilizing and extricating survivors from affected structures and areas, the release said. 'Search and rescue remains the goal, and Alabama is going to do all we can to lend a helping hand to Texas,' Gov. Ivey said. Gov. Ivey spoke on the connection to the devastating floods in Texas, in the loss of Alabama residents, and some Alabama residents still missing. 'We are heartbroken in Alabama and have lost two of our own,' she said. 'I pray for Sarah Marsh's family as they navigate the unimaginable loss of their precious daughter. My prayers are also with the Santanas as they grieve the loss of Camille and are still searching for three members of their family. Truly, we are all grieving alongside these Alabamians, as well as those in Texas and across our country.' Gov. Ivey said she was glad Alabama had the resources and trained people to assist in this tragedy. 'I am grateful to all those who are part of the search and rescue mission, and I pray for their safety and for the success of their mission,' she said. 'Y'all pray for Texas.' Fire at Mobile apartment complex displaces 3 families
UPDATE (12:30 p.m.): Mobile Fire-Rescue Department officials have released more information about a Monday night fire at The Estates at Lafayette Square. Secret camera in Gulf Shores bathroom leads to arrest, deputies say According to officials, they were called to the complex for a report of a 'possible fire' in building 24. When firefighters arrived, they found flames and heavy smoke coming from a ground-level apartment. Officials said no one was home at the time. Firefighters entered the apartment and found flames in the kitchen area, which were spreading into the walls and moving toward the second floor, according to officials. By 9:30 p.m., officials said the fire was under control. Officials said the damage was mainly limited to the one apartment unit, but three other units received minor to moderate smoke damage. Three families were displaced from their homes due to the fire. No one was injured during the fire, and the cause remains under investigation. PREVIOUS REPORTING MOBILE, Ala. Two hurt in downtown Mobile crash
UPDATE 6/10/25: Mobile Police sent a brief update Tuesday 'The vehicle was traveling south on Lawrence Street when it left the roadway and struck two light poles. The driver and a passenger had to be cut out of the vehicle by Mobile Fire-Rescue and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.' A spokesperson said speed could have been a factor as they continue to investigate. MOBILE, Ala (WKRG) – Two people are hurt after an SUV crashes in downtown Mobile before dawn Sunday morning. A vehicle crashed into two utility poles and a lamp post Sunday morning at the intersection of Church and South Lawrence Streets.
