Mobile Game Monday: DOWN IN BERMUDA
Greetings, friends, and welcome to Mobile Game Monday, where we chat about games you can play on the go. If you like gaming on a phone or tablet , this is the place for you. Join us every week as we go on all sorts of adventures. You don't necessarily have to travel to go on an adventure this summer. Stay home, find a cozy spot, and go on a charming journey about exploration and finding home in Down in Bermuda. RELATED: July's Most Anticipated Video Games Down in Bermuda Down in Bermuda (2023) is a point-and-click puzzle adventure developed and published by Yak & Co. Explore a series of forgotten islands in mysterious Bermuda as you help a stranded aviator, Milton, find his way home. Screenshot courtesy of Cassie Holguin. An unnatural storm caused the pilot to crash 30 years ago , and ever since, he has been searching for a way back to his family. That's where you come in to help uncover things poor Milton may have missed over the years. RELATED: 15 Co-Op Game Announcements From June 2025 Gameplay Explore six islands, each with a specific theme like forest, shipwreck, or lava. Drag your finger on the screen to move the camera around and explore each island. Pinch your fingers to zoom in and out, then tap an item to interact with it. Use two fingers to rotate the camera and get a better view of your surroundings. Screenshot courtesy of Cassie Holguin. Perspective plays a big role here, and you will need to move things around to find those particularly hard-to-find items. Additionally, moving the camera makes some puzzles much easier to solve, so do not be afraid to play with perspective. These mechanics make it easy to find everything you need to help Milton get home. RELATED: Starsand Island Is Primed to Redefine Romance in the Life Sim Genre Find All of the Shiny Things Ultimately, your goal in Down in Bermuda is to find all of the hidden stars and orbs on each island. Stars are strewn all over the islands, and all you have to do is tap to collect them. Remember to tap everything because some objects, like doors, plants, or animals, will move to reveal secrets. Screenshot courtesy of Cassie Holguin. If you are having trouble finding all the stars, a helpful map found on each island reveals their locations. Finding this map as soon as possible will keep you from getting stuck and help you glide through the game. Screenshot courtesy of Cassie Holguin. Orbs are a little harder to get because this usually involves helping quirky residents by solving puzzles. For example, upon arrival at Forest Island, help some natives stuck in a tree for an easy orb. Some characters need help dealing with monsters such as a kraken or giant snakes. Others, like the infamous pirate Bermuda Bill Bottomsworth, will challenge you to find all of his well-hidden treasure. Make sure to interact with everyone because you never know who might be your next step to freedom. Screenshot courtesy of Cassie Holguin. Also found on each island is a Polaroid that Milton lost in the crash. Each picture reveals a little more about the pilot's story and why he is so desperate to get home. We learn that he has a wife and child whom he hasn't seen in decades since the crash. This is even more motivation to find everything and get this homesick pilot back where he belongs. RELATED: F2P Friday: Strange Antiquities Our Adventure Ends Here Down in Bermuda is a short and sweet game that can be completed in about two hours. For some, this may be a downside, but I like playing a game where I actually have a chance of finishing. The music is atmospheric and complete with nature sounds that are specific to the island you are exploring. It's a charming, cozy, and casual game that would be great to play by the pool on a lazy summer day. Screenshot courtesy of Cassie Holguin. This adventure is more about exploration and finding things than solving difficult puzzles. Most puzzles in the game can be solved by tapping the right things, which is a relief if you get stuck. The gameplay flows organically as one discovery leads you to the next. Rarely are you lost and unsure of what to do next. I enjoyed the simple gameplay for a change as I breezed through the game. I highly recommend Down in Bermuda for those who enjoy casual but heartwarming gameplay like the Monument Valley series. RELATED: Read all of the Mobile Game Monday adventures here! Even waking your brother up to start the day is an adventure as you find batteries for the alarm clock. Screenshot courtesy of Cassie Holguin. At the beginning of each chapter, you must chat with mysterious creatures like goblins to uncover your next step. Of course, each character that you encounter needs help, and most of the time, this means a puzzle or minigame. There are over 30 puzzles and games to enjoy. Each character you help brings you one step closer to home. RELATED: Cozy Game Alert: Witchbrook If you do happen to get stuck, there is a hint button that will give a starting point to help you out. I am not too proud to admit that I pressed that hint button more than a few times. While the puzzles aren't impossibly challenging, there is such a wide range of riddles, you just may run into something that isn't your forte. Screenshot courtesy of Cassie Holguin. No in-game shop, no competition, no stress. Just like it was when I was a kid, solving simple problems, but making the most of them. While there aren't a ton of events for the game, they are currently holding a Speedrun Challenge until July 2. Challenge yourself with the Fastest Dreamer Race, where you aim to complete the game as fast as possible with no hints or pauses. RELATED: June's Most Anticipated Video Games Fun for All Ages Lost in Play is a great game for kiddos of all ages because there is no dialogue. Everything is communicated through simple, childlike drawings and gesturing. Although Lost in Play is single-player, that doesn't mean it has to be a solo experience. Screenshot courtesy of Cassie Holguin. Every time my daughter caught me playing this on my phone, she would come over and help me out. We genuinely enjoyed exploring and solving the puzzles together. Oftentimes, my daughter would point out things that I never noticed. It also helps instill values and ideals like helping others and thinking outside of the box. RELATED: Switch 2 Doesn't Fix Pokémon's Biggest Problem Many times while playing, I found myself asking, 'What would happen if I did this?' and I appreciate anything that makes me think this way. As adults, we tend to be so worried about consequences that we do not take risks. Screenshot courtesy of Cassie Holguin. This game rewards curiosity and thinking outside of the box. The art style and atmosphere remind me of Over the Garden Wall and Gravity Falls , so if you like those shows, definitely give this game a try. RELATED: Fields of Mistria Is Finally Getting a Dating Mechanic Our Adventure Ends Here I love the simplicity of this game, and it is absolutely gorgeous. I highly recommend this game to everyone, especially those looking for something fun to do with the kiddos this summer. Screenshot courtesy of Cassie Holguin. This game gets the imaginative juices flowing and may even inspire you to view the world a little differently. When was the last time you closely inspected a cool-looking bug or picked up a rock just to see what was underneath? Screenshot courtesy of Cassie Holguin. Lost in Play perfectly captures the feeling of being a kid in the summertime. It reminds me of the outdoor adventures my brother and I would go on when we were kids. Just wandering around the neighborhood, catching and releasing lizards. Not to mention finding pretty rocks. Oh, how I miss those simpler times when all we were worried about was who could find the coolest stick. I cannot recommend Lost in Play enough; it is beautiful, wholesome, and a ton of fun. Mobile Game Monday: Father's Day Special
This article was originally published in June 2024. Greetings, friends, and welcome to Mobile Game Monday, where we chat about games you can play on the go. If you like to game on a phone or tablet , this is the place for you. Join us every week as we go on all sorts of adventures. Holidays like Mother's and Father's Day are not always easy for those who have lost their parents. My father passed away 14 years ago, and it can still be tough at times. I want to say to anyone who has lost a parent, I see you, and I feel you. To make it a little easier, I like to focus on the great memories I am lucky enough to have of my dad. I have also learned to appreciate those still here with me so much more. To all the great dads out there, Happy Father's Day, and thank you for being there. Your actions may mean more than you will ever know. RELATED: F2P Friday: Normal Fishing In remembrance of my dad, I thought it would be fun to share stories about things my dad and I used to do for fun. Don't worry; I included fun games as well because, on any given day, we would be at the arcade. Bowling Crew When I was young, I found my dad's bowling ball and shoes in our garage. He told me he used to be in a league, and I thought that was the coolest thing ever. In my child-sized brain, I imagined something like the Justice League but for awesome bowlers. Growing up, I spent many nights at the bowling alley playing in the arcade and knocking down pins. Our local alley had The Simpsons Bowling arcade game that consumed so much of my childhood and countless quarters. It was such an important part of my childhood that I currently have the Arcade 1Up remake in my game room. RELATED: Star Wars : Most Powerful Sith Lords Later, my family discovered bowling (and Pool) on Wii Sports, which fueled some seriously intense competition in our house. One way or another, bowling has always been a part of my life because of my dad, and the bowling alley always reminds me of him. Photos courtesy of Amazon. Bowling Crew brings the lanes to you in this slick bowling mobile game. Bowl your way through 19 different themed lanes, from the Jack Rabbit Pins to the Luxe Lounge. Every lane has a new shirt and set of balls to collect, each with stats and bonuses to help you in the game. The controls are easy to pick up and pretty intuitive. Face off in short matches against players online or with your real-life bowling buddy. This is a solid alternative to actual bowling, though nothing beats the real thing. Bowling Crew is free in the Google Play and App Store. Williams Pinball In my small hometown, there was a locally owned place called Fun City. They had a handful of classic pinball machines, arcade games and some sketchy go-carts that were broken down half the time. Oh, and the mini golf course closed 90 percent of the time for 'maintenance.' It may not sound like much now, but it was the absolute pinnacle of fun when I was a kid. RELATED: Mobile Game Monday: Call of Duty: Mobile When you first walked in, you were greeted with a row of old pinball machines, lights flashing, music blasting and ready to play. We could spend hours here, playing on every machine and trying to beat each other's scores. I wanted to find a game that captures the nostalgia of the old-school pinball machines. If you are looking for a pinball game that feels like you are playing on a real machine, Williams Pinball scratches that itch. Featuring a huge variety of official Williams Pinball machines, including Attack On Mars and Universal Monsters, this game has all the satisfying lights and sounds of the real thing. Screenshots courtesy of the App Store. Unfortunately, you only start with one table, and it is a lengthy grind to collect more (or spend money, of course). For a while, you will play the same machine over and over, but I usually favor a machine and stick with it anyway. There are even fun customization options and recently added multiplayer options. RELATED: June's Most Anticipated Video Games Williams Pinball is free in the Google Play and App Store. Galaxiga The next stop at Fun City was the random arcade machines planted around. First, we would play some rounds of Frogger with Mom because that is her favorite. Then, we would play a few of Dad's favorites, especially Galaga or Space Invaders . These arcade adventures are easily some of my most cherished childhood memories and certainly influenced the person I am today. The music from some of those old arcade games gives me goosebumps now. Anytime I am lucky enough to come across these games in the wild, I have to play. RELATED: Love free games? Check out the F2P Friday archives! I could not find an official Galaga mobile game, but trust me, Galaxiga is the next best thing. Though this arcade-style shooter was inspired by Galaga , it has so much more to offer. The graphics are a little more modern than the original and surprisingly impressive. You now have countless ship options and can build squads with different types of ships to get stellar bonuses. Photos courtesy of the App Store. The levels are broken up into short groups of waves, so you can play a few quick levels when you have a chance. Simple and addictive, Galaxiga is great for fans of classic arcade shooters. Galaxiga is free in the Google Play and App Store. Our Adventure Ends Here I know that if my dad were still here, we would have had a great time playing these games. This was a nice trip down memory lane for me, and hopefully, you found a game you like and can play with your loved ones. Games have always been an important part of my family, and they are a great way to spend time together. RELATED: Read all of the Mobile Game Monday adventures here! To my Dad, I hope there are bowling lanes, pinball and arcade machines wherever you are. I love and miss you! Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there making memories with their kiddos. More often than not, those moments mean the world to them. Take it easy and play it safe, gamers. Did you play in arcades as a kid? What was your favorite game? Let us know in the comments below!

Mobile Game Monday: MEDIEVAL-IDLE PRAYER
Greetings, friends, and welcome to Mobile Game Monday, where we chat about games you can play on the go. If you like gaming on a phone or tablet , this is the place for you. Join us every week as we go on all sorts of adventures. Medieval-Idle Prayer Medieval-Idle Prayer (2025) is an idle tapping game developed and published by Playesta featuring the bizarre artwork of the Middle Ages. Pray your way through medieval times as Giovanni, who begins his tale as a desperate beggar. Use your tapping power to get Giovanni through everything from the plague to the Crusades. RELATED: June's Most Anticipated Video Games Ask and You Shall Receive There is a multitude of ways to accumulate prayers, the main way being simple tapping. Tap anywhere on the screen and watch your bounty multiply. Hold your finger down for continuous collecting. Praying takes a lot out of you so watch your energy bar which regenerates over time. Other ways to boost your blessings include your Guardian Angel, who collects prayers while you are away or completing simple designated goals. Screenshots courtesy of Cassie Holguin. Icons of various medieval animals occasionally float across the screen. Tap these critters to add them to your collection. After collecting enough creatures, you can open a chest that contains prayers or prophecy scrolls. Collect prophecy scrolls to activate and upgrade passive abilities. For example, the dancing fox increases your energy recovery, and the angry snail increases the speed of guardian angel prayer production. All of this is to raise your holiness level as you progress from a humble monk to the holiest of them all, the pope. As you achieve each level, the medieval illustrations illuminate, and you are blessed with a quote from a wise philosopher like Theophrastus, who said, 'Time is the most precious of resources.' I hear that, Theophrastus. RELATED: Mobile Game Monday: Plants Vs. Zombies Curse These Ads Watching ads will also grant you boons like Heavenly Prayer, which gives you ten times the prayers for 16 seconds. Or watch a couple of ads for double the passive prayers or tapping power. My favorite is the animals' prayer which prompts a parade of animals to inspire you. For the more intrusive ads, pay a one-time fee of $19.99 to remove them forever. Surviving in Style To maximize your prayer power in Medieval-Idle Prayer , you will constantly need to upgrade your resources. These will change depending on which chapter you are playing. In the beginning, as a beggar, your main resource is gold. However, as Giovanni's life changes, other things become more important. For example, after losing everyone to the plague, Giovanni decides to open a pharmacy to cure as many people as possible. Depending on the chapter, resources can be anything from weapons to herbs, even animals that will help you on the battlefield. Screenshots courtesy of Cassie Holguin. Obviously, style is directly associated with prayer effectiveness so it's important to update Giovanni's clothes and accessories. Watch your monk go from literal rags to riches as he dons silks, gold, and armor straight from the medieval style guide. Finally, to keep the blessings coming, it is most important to upgrade the good traits expected from a pious person. These include faith, mercy, wisdom, kindness, and charity. RELATED: F2P Friday: Razzopolis Leveling in Medieval-Idle Prayer is so satisfying and I loved seeing Giovanni's next outfit or animal companion. When you level the resources or clothes enough, the hand of God comes down and blesses you with more stuff on your screen. Just Chill Till the Next Episode Medieval-Idle Prayer plays out the episodic story of Giovanni which takes him from begging in the streets of Italy to the king of the castle. Each chapter features a new location, resources, and characters. After you complete all chapters of the first story, unlock tales from other characters' points of view. See how the meme Lion or the Monk fared through the same series of unfortunate events. Screenshots courtesy of Cassie Holguin. The story is surprisingly captivating and adds a little more depth than your average idle game. Normally with games like this, I obsess for a short while, get bored, and then delete. However, this time, I am genuinely looking forward to completing all of the stories in Medieval-Idle Prayer . RELATED: Summer Game Fest 2025: A New Era of Horror Begins With Resident Evil Requiem Our Adventure Ends Here Blessed are those who download Medieval-Idle Prayer . Mechanically speaking, once you have played one idle game, you have pretty much played them all. Typically, what makes an idle game stand out from the crowd is the theme. The medieval meme theme is a quirky breath of fresh air in an overcrowded genre. It is probably because I have been playing a lot of DOOM: The Dark Ages and Oblivion Remastered but the medieval aesthetic immediately drew me to this one. While the art may have drawn me in, the snarky humor and gratifying gameplay kept me playing. Screenshots courtesy of Cassie Holguin. This simple but satisfying gameplay makes Medieval-Idle Prayer a casual and low-stakes way to kill a little (or a lot) time. Often idle games make you wait forever to replenish resources but you can pretty much play this one as long as you want. Energy generates quickly enough and there are plenty of ways to earn prayers so there is always something to do. And always remember, no matter how bad things get, at least you don't live in the Middle Ages. RELATED: Read all of the Mobile Game Monday adventures here! Take it easy, and play it safe, gamers. Mobile Game Monday: PLANTS VS. ZOMBIES
Greetings, friends, and welcome to Mobile Game Monday, where we chat about games you can play on the go. If you like gaming on a phone or tablet , this is the place for you. Join us every week as we go on all sorts of adventures. Electronic Arts has been in the news a lot this year after several rounds of layoffs, the most recent being the closure of Cliffhanger Games. According to IGN, this means that the Black Panther game announced in 2023 will not see the light of day. Additionally, layoffs will be made to the mobile team although EA president Laura Miele says the developer will maintain their mobile business. With this dark cloud hanging over Electronic Arts right now, I thought we would look at one of EA's brighter moves–acquiring PopCap Games in 2011. This brought EA into the mobile gaming sphere and ported one of my favorite games to the platform. With Spring winding down and Summer hot on our heels, let's do yardwork like our life depends on it in Plants vs. Zombies. RELATED: F2P Friday: Bronzebeard's Tavern Plants Vs. Zombies Plants vs. Zombies (2011) is a tower defense game where the player plants various vegetation in their yard to defend their home against waves of zombie invaders. Your yard takes up most of the screen and has a grid layout. Zombies will wander in from the right and you must take them out before they reach your front door on the far left. Image courtesy of the Play Store. Place plants one at a time using energy or sunlight that occasionally comes from the sky or can be produced by planting sunflowers. Each plant costs a designated amount of energy to be planted. Choose from 49 different species, each with a unique ability. RELATED: Fields of Mistria Is Finally Getting a Dating Mechanic For example, the Snow Pea shoots frozen peas that damage and slow the enemy. These are great for those fast-moving athlete zombies. Before each battle, build an arsenal of only a handful of plants. Choose wisely because some plants are more effective against certain types of zombies. Creating a well-balanced arsenal is your first step to success. Image courtesy of Cassie Holguin. There are over 20 different types of zombies in Plants vs. Zombies . Some are tied to balloons to float above danger while others use pogo sticks to jump over obstacles. From the dancing disco crew to ghoulish athletes, there is no denying that these undead goofballs are a lot of fun. Screenshot courtesy of Cassie Holguin. Canonically, zombies aren't the best swimmers but they have figured out ways around that, too, like riding dolphins or using pool floaties. Imagine a real-life zombie apocalypse with these types of zombies. RELATED: Mobile Game Monday: Sagrada So Many Modes, So Little Time Adventure is the main mode and includes 50 levels that take place in your yard, pool, rooftop, and more. There is even a mode that tests your green thumb at night. Gardening is a little more difficult in the dark but zombies never sleep. Luckily, a variety of mushrooms can be planted at night to keep the undead at bay. Once you have completed your adventure, check out the zen garden where you can care for all of the plants you have collected. Screenshot courtesy of Cassie Holguin. Unlock new games and puzzles using the coins you collect while standing your ground. More ways to play include puzzle modes like i, Zombie where you get to play as the zombies. Or try Vase Breaker where you smash vases that contain either plants or zombies then deal accordingly on the fly. There are over a dozen different minigames to master like Beghouled which is a spooky-themed Bejeweled knockoff. Kudos to the developers at PopCap for coming up with so many creative ways to play the same game. This is the kind of quality content that keeps players interested in a game for so many years. RELATED: Game Review: Projected Dreams Our Adventure Ends Here I first played Plants vs. Zombies on the Xbox 360 around the time of its original release. I immediately became hooked and was ecstatic when it was ported to mobile. It was a great version of the game that played exactly like the original. However, that was many years ago, and was surprised to see how much the game has changed since then. Screenshot courtesy of Cassie Holguin. The most obvious and annoying change is the addition of ads, ads, and more ads. I suspect this is due to the involvement of EA. There is an ad before and after each level as well as ads to get helpful items. Of course, you can pay to remove them but many players reported paying and still seeing them, so buyer beware. RELATED: Read all of the Mobile Game Monday adventures here! On a more positive note, there is now way more game content, including several new game modes. As an OG player, it was a fun surprise to play some new content. Overall, the game itself is amazing and I highly recommend it to anyone who favors tower defense-style games. It will definitely have you saying, 'one more level.' Collecting new plants and trying new strategies is like fertilizer for your brain. Everything about this game is quirky and cute from the cheeky humor to the dozens of goofy zombies. Even the simple but silly soundtrack adds a certain charm and it will get stuck in your head. Take it easy, and play it safe, gamers! Plants vs. Zombies is free in the Play Store and the App Store. June's Most Anticipated Video Games
