UAE offers condolences to South Korea as death toll from heavy rains reaches 14
The UAE has offered its sincere condolences and solidarity with South Korea for the torrential rains with that killed 14 this week, as per a statement from the country Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mofa). Close to 170 millimetres (6.7 inches) of rain hit Gapyeong county in Gyeonggi province — 70 kilometres (40 miles) east of Seoul -- early Sunday, leaving at least two dead and four missing. The toll could rise, with 12 people still unaccounted for after five days of heavy rain. A woman in her 70s was killed when her house collapsed in a landslide while body of a man in his 40s was found near a bridge after he drowned, Yonhap news agency reported. Most of the deaths occurred in the southern county of Sancheong, which has seen nearly 800 millimetres of rain since Wednesday. Two bodies were found there early Sunday during search and rescue operations, raising the number of deaths in the rural county of 33,000 to eight, with six still missing. South Korea typically experiences monsoon rains in July and is usually well-prepared. But this week, the country's southern regions were hit by especially intense downpours, with some of the heaviest hourly rainfall on record, official weather data showed. Scientists say climate change has made extreme weather events more frequent and intense around the world. In 2022, South Korea endured record-breaking rains and flooding, which killed at least 11 people.

Emiratis in deadly Oman road accident airlifted back to the UAE
Emirati citizens injured in a deadly road accident in Oman on Friday have been airlifted back to the UAE for further medical treatment, following a co-ordinated rescue operation. The joint mission, led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mofa) in co-ordination with the National Search and Rescue Centre of the National Guard, the Air Force and Air Defence Command, transferred the injured by air ambulance to Sheikh Khalifa Hospital in Fujairah to continue their treatment after receiving initial medical care in Oman. According to the Royal Oman Police, five people lost their lives in the crash – including three Emirati citizens. While eleven other sustained injuries of varying severity. Among the injured were five children. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash, which remains continuing. In a report on state news agency, Wam, Mofa and the National Guard offered their condolences and sympathies to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to all the injured. Mofa also expressed its appreciation for the Omani authorities' swift response and close co-operation with the UAE Embassy in Muscat. The government has reminded all UAE citizens to exercise caution when travelling by road, adhere to traffic laws and strictly observe speed limits to ensure their safety and that of others.

In cooperation with Omani authorities, the injured were transferred by the air ambulance to Sheikh Khalifa Hospital in Fujairah to continue their treatment after receiving initial medical care in Oman. UAE rescues 22 crew members after Houthis attack ship in Red Sea
The UAE on July 7rescued 22 people from a British-flagged ship, Magic Seas, after it came under attack in the Red Sea. The crew was forced to abandon the vessel in tough sea conditions. The UAE's Safa Breeze, operated by Abu Dhabi Ports Group, responded quickly to the ship's distress call and managed to reach the scene in time. Everyone on board — including crew members and security staff—was safely rescued. In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mofa) confirmed that the rescue was carried out in full coordination with the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) and other international maritime organizations. The Ministry noted that all safety procedures were carefully followed during the operation.
