World Economic Forum and Dubai Future Foundation launch ‘Top 10 Emerging Technologies of 2025' report

We will continue to support active global partnerships and advancing research to anticipate emerging trends and technological opportunities.' His remarks came on the occasion of the launch of the Top 10 Emerging Technologies of 2025 report by the World Economic Forum, in collaboration with Dubai Future Foundation. Al Gergawi noted: 'The Top 10 Emerging Technologies report aims to equip governments, businesses, and entrepreneurs with foresight on the most impactful scientific and technological breakthroughs expected to scale in the coming years.' The report highlights several areas of priority for the years ahead – including advancing health and sustainability, deepening technological integration, continuing innovation, developing effective solutions, and ensuring societal infrastructure is equipped to scale these technologies and achieve their full impact. Technologies featured in the report were selected based on their novelty, potential for significant societal impact, and ability to scale – with a focus on enabling faster adaptation to global change. This year marks the first time the report has included a foresight angle which has been developed in collaboration with the Dubai Future Foundation, originally launched by the World Economic Forum in 2011 in collaboration with Frontiers – a leading open-access publisher in science, technology, and medicine. More than 300 experts from the Global Future Council network participated in developing the report's content. Meanwhile, Dubai Future Foundation's participation marks the first time an entity from the region contributed to the report. The foresight research perspective provided by the Dubai Future Foundation focused on exploring the long-term impact of the selected technologies, projecting the potential shifts that may result from their full-scale implementation, and helping stakeholders better understand how to apply these innovations to real-world challenges. The technologies featured in the Top 10 Emerging Technologies of 2025 report include: green nitrogen fixation, GLP-1 receptor agonists for neurodegenerative diseases, osmotic power systems, collaborative sensing, nanozymes, autonomous biochemical sensing, advanced nuclear technologies, generative watermarking, engineered living therapeutics, and structural battery composites. The report highlights the significance of green nitrogen fixation, which leverages renewable electricity and novel bio- or electrochemical processes to produce ammonia. GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs), a class of drugs originally developed for treating type 2 diabetes and obesity, are now being investigated for their potential to slow the progression of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. Osmotic power systems generate clean, renewable electricity by harnessing the energy differential that arises when saltwater and freshwater interact. Collaborative sensing refers to dynamic networks of interconnected sensors embedded across vehicles, infrastructure, and urban systems. Nanozymes – synthetic nanomaterials engineered to mimic enzyme activity – offer greater durability, lower production costs, and enhanced stability compared to natural enzymes. The report also features autonomous biochemical sensing – next-generation analytical devices capable of continuously monitoring health or environmental conditions without human intervention. Advanced nuclear technologies, such as Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and gas-cooled reactor designs, represent a new generation of compact, safer, and more affordable nuclear energy solutions. Addressing the challenge of content authenticity, the report also explores generative watermarking – tools that embed invisible, traceable markers into AI-generated content. Engineered living therapeutics represent a breakthrough in biomedicine, using genetically modified microbes to produce therapeutic compounds inside the human body. Finally, structural battery composites integrate energy storage directly into the structural elements of vehicles and aircraft, enabling components to serve both as batteries and load-bearing parts. Mohammed bin Rashid launches Phase 2 of Zero Bureaucracy Pgme.
Advancing Zero Bureaucracy During an official event in Dubai, His Highness announced the launch of the second phase of the Zero Government Bureaucracy Programme. He highlighted that the first phase had already succeeded in reducing service delivery times by more than 70%, eliminating over 4,000 unnecessary procedures, and saving more than 12 million hours for users. The programme is part of a national effort to provide faster, more impactful government services. Focusing on digital transformation In this next phase, the focus will shift toward eliminating digital bureaucracy. Sheikh Mohammed praised the efforts of over 30 government entities and 690 task teams who streamlined procedures and improved service delivery. He stressed that the UAE aims to achieve a government system free of complexity and long waits, one that delivers real impact in people's lives. National collaboration for leadership in services The event brought together more than 200 senior officials, including ministers and directors general from federal entities. The programme serves as a unifying national framework for all ministries and government bodies, with a strategic goal of positioning the UAE as a global leader in government service excellence. Success of phase one Minister of Cabinet Affairs Mohammad Al Gergawi outlined the significant results achieved in the first phase. These included the removal of over 4,000 unnecessary procedures, the elimination of 1,600 redundant requirements, and a total savings of 12 million customer hours annually. These efforts also saved the government and its customers an estimated AED 1.12 billion each year. Top-performing entities were awarded a total of AED 7 million in recognition of their efforts. Expanding the impact in phase two The second phase will aim to reduce more unnecessary procedures and digitize services further by eliminating digital bureaucracy. It will focus on ensuring round-the-clock functionality of digital platforms, modernizing digital systems, enhancing integration across government entities, and incorporating artificial intelligence to optimize the user experience. Recognition of the Ministry of Justice His Excellency Abdullah bin Sultan bin Awad Al Nuaimi, Minister of Justice, shared the Ministry's journey toward reducing bureaucracy, which earned it the top award for Best Government Team. He highlighted initiatives that helped the Ministry excel in simplifying its services and procedures. Roadmap for the future Mohammed bin Taliah, Chief of Government Services in the UAE Government, explained that Phase Two will enhance intergovernmental cooperation, improve data sharing, and promote innovative joint solutions. It will also adopt leading global business practices to further streamline operations. Engagement with the private sector The event concluded with an interactive session titled "Zero Bureaucracy and the Private Sector." Marwan Ibrahim Haji Nasser, Chairman and CEO of Tadawi Healthcare Group, and Fouad Mansoor Sharaf, Managing Director of UAE Shopping Malls at MAF Properties, discussed how reducing bureaucracy improves private sector efficiency, performance, and service excellence. UAE Government, WEF set stage for launching Global Future Councils in October
The UAE Government and the World Economic Forum (WEF) announced the launch of the 2025 edition of the Global Future Councils, to be held in Dubai on October 14 - 16, 2025. This landmark event continues a remarkable journey of collaboration between the UAE and the WEF, and builds on more than 16 years of success, with the councils' having convened over 280 councils with the participation of 6,600+ global experts and specialists, covering topics most related to human life and future. Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Co-Chair of the Global Future Councils, emphasised that the councils reflect the shared values of the UAE and the WEF, namely to encourage future-shaping thinking and inspire societies to actively participate in the design and implementation of forward-looking solutions. 'For more than five decades, our relationship with the World Economic Forum has always centred on building an inclusive platform for open global dialogue about the future—with humanity at its core,' said Al Gergawi. 'This reflects our wise leadership's commitment to fostering meaningful international cooperation to co-create a better tomorrow.' 'In today's world, challenges such as technology, geoeconomics, and the environment are interconnected. The uniqueness of the Forum's Global Future Councils is that they bring together experts from different fields to identify new areas for future cooperation,' said Børge Brende, President and Chief Executive Officer, World Economic Forum. The current term of the GFCs will develop thought leadership to help navigate uncertainty, decode geopolitical tensions, and make sense of an increasingly complex world. The 2025–2026 edition of the Global Future Councils will feature 36 councils, bringing together 700 experts from over 580 organisations and institutions across 93 countries. The councils are evenly structured to ensure diverse representation—one-third for business leaders, one-third for thought leaders and academics, and one-third for government experts, international organisations, and civil society representatives. The UAE Government and the WEF held an introductory meeting for members of the upcoming edition to update participants on the goals of the new session and outline the key priorities that will shape the GFCs work over the next two years. During the opening session, Ruqayya AlBlooshi, Executive Director for International Affairs at the UAE Prime Minister's Office, and Martina Szabo, Head of Knowledge Communities at the WEF, outlined the roadmap for the new GFCs. AlBlooshi highlighted the UAE's pivotal role in creating a diverse and impactful future-shaping network, contributing to nearly $8 trillion in global economic value and reaching 683 million people across 158 countries. 'Over the past 16 years, the collaboration between the UAE and the World Economic Forum has led to creating hundreds of think tanks and brought together thousands of experts and thought leaders from over 93 countries,' she noted. 'Hosting the Global Future Councils in the UAE—and turning their outcomes into impactful, real-world solutions—underscores the UAE's position as a global hub for communication and collaboration.' AlBlooshi further emphasised the GFCs impact on major global events, noting their role in shaping global agendas, serving international priorities, and delivering tangible results. One example was the GFC on Agile Governance, that produced thought leadership supporting the development of innovative regulatory practices and helping governments quickly adapt to emerging technologies inspiring the action seven countries. Szabo underscored the councils' evolution from their 2008 origins as 'Global Agenda Councils' to the present-day 'Global Future Councils,' and their continued role in shaping key global agendas, such as the Annual Meeting of the New Champions in China, Sustainable Development Impact Meetings in New York, Growth Summits in Geneva, and the World Economic Forum's Annual Meeting in Davos. She outlined the new goals of the Global Future Councils, which include enhancing cross-disciplinary collaboration, sharing ideas and knowledge, defining and exploring emerging issues and technologies expected to have a major global impact, establishing data- and evidence-based cooperation between public and private sectors, noting that what truly sets the Global Future Councils apart is their proven ability to drive real, transformative change worldwide. Dubai launches academy for travel influencers to ‘amplify global appeal'
Dubai has launched an academy for travel content creators to boost tourism and support digital storytelling projects. It is hoped that the 'Beautiful Destinations Academy, Powered by Dubai' initiative will help promote the city's global image. It will introduce formal standards, structure and accountability to a previously informal field. The curriculum is designed to develop creative and commercial skills combining technical proficiency with marketing principles. After completing the programme, they will be awarded a certificate of participation from Dubai College of Tourism. Influencers interested in enrolling can apply online through the Beautiful Destinations website. The academy session will take place in Dubai from May 2025, lasting three months. 'The launch of this innovative programme with Beautiful Destinations is a testament to our commitment to fostering creativity, innovation, and excellence in the tourism sector,' said Issam Kazim, CEO of Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing. 'By providing a dedicated space for content creators, we aim to amplify Dubai's global appeal and further solidify our position as the best city to visit, live, and work in.' It follows the formation of the Creators HQ earlier this year, which aims to attract 10,000 influencers to the UAE. This will serve to 'empower creators, amplify their impact, and establish sustainable frameworks for the booming creator economy', according to the government. It was established with 100 members drawn from 20 countries, including some of the world's leading content creators as well as those championing the rise of the sector. The hub, launched at the 1 Billion Followers Summit in January, will also allow influencers to apply for a 10-year residency golden visa. The initiative has been endorsed by many of the world's most prominent names in the field of written or visual content, including Meta, TikTok, X, Spotter, Creator Now, Tube Filter, Epidemic Sound and the New Media Academy. 'Today we spearhead major efforts dedicated to building a comprehensive content economy that further establishes the UAE's leadership in a field that has become a key driver of the future,' said Mohammad Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, at the time of the launch. If you are making money through social media in the UAE, you will also need a licence from the National Media Council, which costs Dh15,000 in Abu Dhabi and Dubai – but costs can vary depending on the emirate. The standard content creator licence must be renewed each year, which would not be the case for golden visa holders, who would not have to update it during the 10 years of their accreditation. This amounts to a 'huge opportunity for any content creator, in or out of the country', according to Rami Al Asmar, who posts history videos on TikTok and Instagram and spoke to The National during the summit. Coral Stevens, who reviews restaurants and other popular destinations under the handle of dxb-hun on Instagram in Dubai had another perspective, saying that having a golden visa will make it easier to settle for the long term and would ease some financial pressures. 'I'm hoping it will allow more stability as a content creator, and more financial stability. Knowing my future is more long term than having to renew my visa every two years would definitely make me feel more stable. Also, my business licence is very costly at Dh22,000 a year. Having the golden visa could definitely help reduce this cost.' The changes make content creators feel more valued, Ms Stevens said. She added that she wants to apply for the golden visa because it would secure her future in the UAE and enable her to stay long term with her family. 'I'm extremely excited I could apply for it – it's something I'd be so honoured to have,' said Ms Stevens, who has 128,000 online followers. 'I know my page has brought some tourism to the country, and it would definitely be the cherry on the cake, I would feel extremely valued and all the hard work I've put into content would have paid off.' Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, posted on social media platform X last year that the UAE welcomes creators whose work can help create a better life and future. Dubai AI Week 2025 to Host 10,000+ AI Experts
Dubai Future Foundation (DFF) has announced the official agenda for the inaugural Dubai AI Week, taking place from April 21 to 25, 2025. The event is held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of DFF. Organised by the Dubai Centre for Artificial Intelligence and overseen by DFF, the global event will host AI pioneers, decision-makers, and industry experts from over 100 countries. The goal is to foster collaboration and highlight the growing role of AI in government, business, and society. Dubai AI Week is a major milestone in the UAE's strategy to lead the global AI agenda. It will feature flagship initiatives, immersive experiences, and key collaborations across the public and private sectors. Mohammad Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Vice Chairman of DFF, said Dubai is now a leading global hub for AI innovation. He credited this progress to the vision of H.H. Organised by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs – Dubai, it will explore AI in education and public service.
