BEAUFORT: Residents in the district are questioning the status of the Hardcore Poor Housing Programme (PPRT) at Taman Permai Selagon, which remains unoccupied despite having been completed some time ago. The housing project comprises 67 units and includes a multipurpose hall, surau and rows of shop lots. However, the area appears neglected and is beginning to fall into disrepair.
Advertisement Mohammad Johawalia told Daily Express on Saturday according to a nearby villager, the housing area looks like it is 'haunted' as it is now surrounded by overgrown bushes and weeds. 'It would be better if these houses were allocated to those in need, especially as many people still do not have proper housing and some are forced to live on squatter land, which is considered illegal by the authorities,' he said. Citing the plight of residents in Kampung Jempangah who have been ordered to vacate land they had occupied for decades and now have nowhere to go, Johawalia said it would be ideal for the government to allocate the vacant houses to them. 'It would solve their long-standing housing problems, especially as some have been told to leave within two weeks,' he said.
