32 killed in Gaza

GAZA: A Palestinian youth rushes a girl who was injured in a Zionist airstrike on an apartment at the Nuseirat refugee camp, into Al-Awda hospital in the central Gaza Strip on July 19, 2025. – AFP GAZA: At least 32 people were killed by Zionist fire while they were on their way to an aid distribution site in Gaza at dawn on Saturday, according to the Gaza Health Ministry and Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis. The Zionist military said it had fired warning shots at suspects who approached its troops after they did not heed calls to stop, about a kilometer away from an aid distribution site that was not active at the time. Gaza resident Mohammed Al-Khalidi said he was in the group approaching the site and heard no warnings before the firing began. 'We thought they came out to organize us so we can get aid, suddenly (I) saw the jeeps coming from one side, and the tanks from the other and started shooting at us,' he said. The Gaza Humanitarian Fund, a US-backed group which runs the aid site, said there were no incidents or fatalities there on Saturday and that it has repeatedly warned people not to travel to its distribution points at dark. 'The reported IDF (Defense Forces) activity resulting in fatalities occurred hours before our sites opened and our understanding is most of the casualties occurred several kilometres away from the nearest GHF site,' it said. The Zionist military said it was reviewing the incident. Deaths near aid sites GHF uses private US security and logistics companies to get supplies into Gaza, largely bypassing a UN-led system that Zionist entity alleges has let Hamas-led militants loot aid shipments intended for civilians. Hamas denies the accusation. The UN has called the GHF's model unsafe and a breach of humanitarian impartiality standards, which GHF denies. On Tuesday, the UN rights office in Geneva said it had recorded at least 875 killings within the past six weeks in the vicinity of aid sites and food convoys in Gaza - the majority of them close to GHF distribution points. Most of those deaths were caused by gunfire that locals have blamed on Zionist military. The military has acknowledged that civilians were harmed, saying that Zionist forces had been issued new instructions with 'lessons learned'. At least 18 more people were killed in other attacks across Gaza on Saturday, health officials said. The military said that it had struck militants' weapon depots and sniping posts in a few locations in the enclave. The war began when militants stormed into Zionist entity on October 7, 2023. The Zionist military campaign against Hamas in Gaza has since killed around 58,000 Palestinians, most of them civilians according to health officials, displaced almost the entire population and plunged the enclave into a humanitarian crisis, leaving much of the territory in ruins. Zionist entity and Hamas are engaged in indirect talks in Qatar aimed at reaching a 60-day ceasefire though there has been no sign of any imminent breakthrough.— Reuters

37 killed in Israeli raid near aid collection point in Gaza

dpa Gaza Israeli soldiers killed at least 37 people near a distribution centre for humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip, according to Palestinian medical sources on Saturday. About 100 people were injured by Israeli army gunfire and shelling in the Khan Younis area in the south of the sealed-off coastal region, according to medical circles at the local Nasser Hospital. They were transferred to the hospital from the al-Tina area in Khan Younis. The medical source said that the death toll is expected to increase due to the seriousness of a large number of cases. The Israeli army said it was investigating the incident, in response to a query. The controversial Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) is currently responsible for the distribution of food in the Gaza Strip. Supported by Israel and the US, the foundation began its work at the end of May after a months-long Israeli blockade of aid deliveries. But the UN has criticized the fact that the foundation operates too few distribution centres and that people there and on their way to them are exposed to extreme danger. Hundreds of people have been killed near the distribution centres and around aid convoys since the end of May, according to the UN. Mohammed Al-Khalidi, speaking to Reuters, pointed the finger at the Israeli army for the attack. He said he was part of a group of Palestinians who had been told the GHF aid distribution centre was open, but when they arrived tanks began moving towards them and opened fire. 'It wasn't shots that were to scare us or to organize us, it was shots that were targeted to kill us, if they wanted to organize us they would have, but they meant to kill us.' On 15 July, the UN human rights office said it had so far recorded 674 killings in the vicinity of the GHF's four sites in southern and central Gaza over the past six weeks. Another 201 killings had been recorded along routes of UN and other aid convoys, it added. The UN also said this week that the number of acutely malnourished children has doubled since Israel began restricting food entering the territory in March. Despite the creation of the GHF significant amounts of aid, including baby formula, is still being blocked at the border. On Friday, the director of one field hospital said in a statement that they had an unprecedented influx of patients suffering from severe exhaustion, emaciation and acute malnutrition. So far, 69 children have died from malnutrition during the increasing humanitarian crisis, according to the Hamas government media office. On Friday, US President Donald Trump once again suggested a ceasefire deal was very near – but a Palestinian official told the BBC that talks remain blocked, with a latest troop withdrawal map proposed by Israel still unacceptable to Hamas.
