Muslim World League condemns Israeli attacks on civilians in Gaza, West Bank

RIYADH: The Muslim World League on Saturday strongly condemned recent Israeli attacks on civilian shelters and ongoing violence against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, the Saudi Press Agency reported. The MWL has described the actions as part of a wider pattern of settler aggression carried out with impunity under the protection of the Israeli occupation forces, the SPA added. The MWL's Secretary-General Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, who also chairs the Organization of Muslim Scholars, denounced in a statement issued by the MWL's General Secretariat what he called 'heinous crimes' committed against unarmed civilians, including recent attacks by settlers on the village of Kafr Malik, east of Ramallah. He added that the 'brutal assaults' were a 'blatant violation of all human values as well as international laws and norms.' He urged the international community to uphold its legal and moral responsibilities and take decisive action against what he described as the occupation government's ongoing disregard for the rights and dignity of the Palestinian people. Al-Issa also called for the immediate activation of international mechanisms to halt the violence and ensure accountability for those responsible for what he termed 'horrific massacres.' His comments came after Saudi Arabia's Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Friday condemning the violence, denouncing 'the continued violence perpetrated by Israeli settlers, under the protection of the occupation forces, against Palestinian civilians, including the attacks in the village of Kafr Malik.'

Henry Jackson Society hosts talks with secretary-general of the Muslim World League in London

RIYADH: The Henry Jackson Society hosted a dialogue with Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, secretary-general and chairman of the Muslim World League, at its headquarters in London. The meeting touched on Islam's message of dialogue, promoting understanding and coexistence among countries and peoples, particularly among the diverse communities in multicultural societies. Al-Issa commended the British Muslim community for its respect for the law, its commitment to social cohesion, and its active engagement in the United Kingdom. He said that this positive impact has been well documented in reports issued by the Muslim World League and affirmed by senior British officials during official meetings. He noted that the British Muslim community ranks among the four largest in Europe and, more recently, the most prominent among Muslim minorities in Western countries, distinguished not only by its population size but also by its growing presence in senior government positions. The discussion underscored the important influence of a mindful family, quality education, and accountable media in cultivating awareness, reinforcing sound thinking, and combating harmful, misleading, and extremist ideologies. He noted that during a meeting with King Charles at Buckingham Palace, he conveyed the greetings and appreciation of Muslim scholars and intellectuals affiliated with the Muslim World League. Al-Issa commended the British monarch's thoughtful and sincere perspective on Islam, particularly in light of increasing Islamophobia and hostile campaigns driven by ideological extremism. Al-Issa said that Islam is best represented through its message of moderation, conveyed by its leading official institutions. The Muslim World League is the voice of Muslim communities worldwide and was the sponsor of the historic 'Makkah Document' — a pivotal contemporary Islamic charter endorsed by more than 1,200 leading muftis and scholars. At a March 2023 conference in London, British Muslims described the document as a foundational religious charter, reflecting the scholarly consensus of the Islamic world under the MWL umbrella, and carrying profound significance because it was issued from Makkah, the spiritual heart of Islam and home of the Kaaba. The secretary-general of the MWL said in a statement that 'the Organization of Islamic Cooperation serves as a voice for Islam from the standpoint of the Islamic nations.'

MWL Condemns Storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque Courtyards by Israeli Officials and Settlers

The Muslim World League (MWL) condemned on Tuesday the storming of the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli officials and settlers under the protection of Israeli forces. In a statement, MWL Secretary-General and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa denounced the 'reprehensible act, which violates the sanctity of Islamic holy sites.' He warned of the 'serious consequences of such provocations and the continued violations by Israeli forces, which are a flagrant breach of all international and humanitarian laws and norms, and a deliberate provocation of Muslims around the world.' Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and hundreds of Israeli nationalists visited the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound on Monday where they performed 'provocative' rituals at its courtyards amid heightened security measures. Palestinian traders in Jerusalem's Old City returned to their shops on Tuesday to clean up a day after a march by Israeli nationalists that saw scuffles, insults and acts of vandalism. Some had to use crowbars, hammers and wirecutters to regain access to their own shops after many were vandalized during the 'Jerusalem Day' march the day before.
