PM: The government continues to support women
Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani chaired a meeting on Monday of the Supreme Council for Women's Affairs, during which several issues related to women's empowerment were discussed. "The government's commitment continues to support women, advancing a forward-looking vision to enhance their role, and adopting plans to strengthen their impact and standing," according to a statement by the PM Media Office - received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA. The meeting reviewed the preliminary report on women's roles in the areas of poverty reduction, education, housing, health, and policy-making, and identified priority areas for women's support under the upcoming Government Program (2026–2030). The Cabinet delivered directives for ministries, non-ministerial entities, and provincial governments to coordinate and implement proposed measures aimed at empowering women economically in the private sector. These include facilitating the establishment of women-owned companies and brands, providing tax incentives for women-led initiatives, and utilizing the digital platform 'Dhaman' for registering women's economic activities. Approval was also granted for these institutions to recognize endorsements issued by the Supreme Council for Women's Affairs for women participating in volunteer efforts under the Cabinet's supervision. The Prime Minister directed the preparation of annual programs aligned with the government's vision for supporting women, with corresponding financial allocations to be included by the Ministry of Finance in the annual budgets. The meeting reviewed the outcomes of the program to train 500 young female agricultural engineers, with the first phase launched in cooperation with Baghdad Municipality across 18 training centers, in addition to reviewing the results of the 'Advanced Development Guide for Young Women' program, which targeted 250 women in Baghdad, Kirkuk, Basra, Babil, and Dhi Qar to enhance their technological skills and readiness for the job market. The 'Pioneers of Change' program launched by the Council included 540 women, with the next phase involving the identification of required training modules and the pilot launch of the Council's digital platform, 'Women's Perspectives and Ideas.' Finally, the Council was briefed on preparations to train 6,000 young women across Iraq in tourism management, in coordination with the Tourism Commission of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities, with the aim of enabling future employment in the private tourism sector.

Iraqi Prime Minister orders forming high-level committee to investigate targeting military sites
24 June 2025 16:00 BAGHDAD (WAM)Mohammed S. Al-Sudani, Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Iraq, has ordered the formation of a high-level technical and intelligence committee to investigate the circumstances of the attack on Iraqi military sites and bases, Iraq News Agency (INA) Official Spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief Sabah Al-Numan, stated in a statement, 'In a cowardly and treacherous attack, between 2:15 AM and 3:45 AM today, Tuesday, June 24, 2025, several small suicide drones targeted multiple Iraqi military sites and bases. The assault severely damaged radar systems at Camp Taji, north of Baghdad, and Imam Ali Base in Dhi Qar Province. No human casualties were reported.''Iraqi forces successfully repelled and thwarted all other attempted attacks on four additional sites across various locations, intercepting the drones and downing them before they could reach their intended targets,' he added.'All of the targeted locations are exclusively military facilities under the control of the Iraqi security forces, managed and operated by officers and personnel from our heroic security formations,' Al-Numan confirmed.'In response to this blatant aggression, Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Mohammed S. Al-Sudani ordered the formation of a high-level technical and intelligence committee, comprising representatives from all relevant security agencies, to investigate the circumstances of the attack, identify the perpetrators, and closely follow the outcomes of the investigation,' he further statement affirmed, "Such criminal and cowardly acts will not go unpunished. Media Office of the Prime Minister said in a statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency INA that Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani met today, Tuesday, with a delegation from the Kurdistan Islamic Union Parliamentary Bloc. The meeting included discussions on several national-level issues and the progress of the government's service and economic programs. The statement read 'During the meeting, Prime Minister Al-Sudani reaffirmed the government's commitment to meeting the aspirations of citizens and addressing their concerns across all parts of Iraq, in line with its legal and constitutional responsibilities and the priorities and needs of the population.' It further said 'The meeting also underscored the need for fundamental solutions—within the framework of the Constitution and the law—regarding the financial obligations of the Kurdistan Regional Government, based on the provisions of the Federal Budget Law and the ruling of the Federal Supreme Court. The importance of passing the Oil and Gas Law was also emphasized.' The statement also said 'Members of the Kurdistan Islamic Union Bloc highlighted the significance of the enhanced security and societal stability achieved alongside a comprehensive economic and urban revival. They commended the government's efforts in service delivery and visible reforms, and the positive impact of these measures on the lives of citizens throughout the country.'

New Food Processing Plant opens in Al-Mahmoudiya
By John Lee. Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani has officially opened the United Arab Company for Food Industries factories in Al-Mahmoudiya, south of Baghdad. The first phase includes pasta and noodle factories built on 20 percent of the 123-dunam [12 hectares; 30 acres] site, with an investment of 128 billion Iraqi dinars [$98 million]. The company currently employs 800 staff and aims to grow its workforce to over 1,000, targeting both the domestic and export markets.
