‘Karavali Connect' brings HR leaders together ahead of job fair

Bengaluru: As part of preparations for the upcoming Alva's Pragati job fair on August 1 and 2, the Alva's Education Foundation hosted 'Karavali Connect – HR Greet & Meet' in Bengaluru on June 5. The event brought together over 85 senior HR professionals and representatives from leading firms to explore employment avenues for youth from coastal Karnataka. Presiding over the programme, former Chief Minister Dr M Veerappa Moily commended the Alva's Foundation for enabling job access for rural youth through sustained job fairs over two decades. 'Dr Mohan Alva transformed Vidyagiri into a hub of learning, helping thousands secure placements in global firms,' he said. He urged HR leaders to prioritise potential over appearance and to support aspirants with a hunger to succeed. Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta, the chief guest, said the event reflects a serious effort to connect the region's youth with the corporate world. He noted that his 'Back to Ooru' initiative had attracted major investments, including ₹1,000 crore from two European companies into Mangaluru. Vivek Alva, Managing Trustee of the Foundation, said the job fair is expected to attract over 13,000 candidates across IT, graduate, postgraduate, diploma, and nursing streams. The foundation has attracted participants from Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nvadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana with an investment of 5 crores. They have gained a great deal by landing positions in prestigious businesses.

The 15th edition of Alva's Pragati, a job fair organised by Alva's Education Foundation, will be held for two days at Alva's College in Moodbidri from August 1, 2025, according to M. Mohan Alva, chairman of the foundation. The placement drive is free for participating companies and job aspirants, Dr. Alva said. Addressing press persons here on Monday Dr. Alva said that the placement drive will witness participation from top recruiters representing major sectors such as Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI), IT, ITes, manufacturing, pharma, sales and retail, hospitality, telecommunication, health, media, construction, education and NGO. These sectors offer a large number of openings for graduates, postgraduates, diploma holders, and skilled manpower in various streams, including medical and para-medical, engineering, arts, commerce and management, basic sciences, nursing, and other fields. The participating companies' details will be updated in real-time at Online free registration is compulsory for job aspirants, except for those who have passed the ITI, Pre-University, and Class 10 exams, to streamline and digitise the entire recruitment and selection process, Dr. Alva said. Currently, 80 companies have registered and additionally 130 companies have confirmed their participation, he said. Accommodation will be arranged for outstation candidates from July 31 onwards, he said. The foundation chairman said that the foundation has so far hosted 21 mass placement drives. Each edition has seen the participation of an average of 200 reputed companies. To date, 61,517 candidates have been shortlisted, with 36,151 securing spot job offers, Dr. Alva said.

11 athletes from Alva's Foundation chosen to represent India in World University Games

Eleven athletes from Alva's Education Foundation's Sports Adoption Scheme, representing Mangalore University, have been selected to represent India in the forthcoming World University Games 2025, scheduled to be held in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany, from July 16 to 27. Foundation president M. Mohan Alva told reporters in Moodbidri on Wednesday that with the selection, the total number of athletes from the foundation participating in the games has risen to 32. He said the selection was a matter of pride for the institution and the State. The athletes were selected during the trials held at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), a deemed-to-be university in Bhubaneswar. In the men's category, the selected athletes are Gagan (5,000 meters run), Sachin (20 km walk), Balakrishna (400 meters run) and N. Taufique (decathlon). Those selected in the women's category are Deekshita Ramakrishna Gowda (400 meters hurdles), Basanti Kumari (half marathon), Manju Yadav (steeplechase), Sindhusree (pole vault), Sakshi Sharma (javelin throw), Jyoti (half marathon) and Shalini (20 km walk). Dr. Alva said all the selected athletes represent Mangalore University and are trained under Alva's Sports Adoption Scheme. Each athlete will require a financial outlay of ₹2.5 lakh to participate in the event. While Mangalore University has assured a contribution of ₹75,000 per athlete, the remaining expenses are being borne by the foundation, he added.
