Odisha signs MoUs with 33 companies in textile sector

Odisha has signed 33 Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with textile and apparel sector companies on Friday (July 25, 2025) that entail collective investment of ₹7808 crore expected to generate 53,300 employment. Besides, the State has also received several investment commitments that may help transform Odisha's apparel landscape. More than 160 companies including big names like Page Industries, First Step Baby Wear, KPR Mills, Sportking, Adarsh Knitwear and Anubhav Apparels participated in Odisha TEX 2025, The State launched two state-of-the-art textile and footwear parks with plug-and-play facilities for global-standard manufacturing, in addition to introduction of modern workers' hostels to enhance industrial stability. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced that the employment cost subsidies under Odisha Technical Textile and Apparel Policy 2022 will be increased from ₹5000 to ₹6000 per month per male workers and from ₹6000 to ₹7000 per month per female worker. Mr. Majhi announced a dedicated task force under industries department to fast-track grounding of investment. Odisha has set an ambitious vision to create over one lakh jobs in textiles and apparel by 2030, while expanding new textile clusters in Bolangir, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Jagasinghpur, Ganjam, and Cuttack. 'With world-class infrastructure, progressive policies, and a skilled workforce, we are creating unmatched opportunities for investors and livelihoods for our people,' Mr Majhi said.

Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], July 25 (ANI): Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday said that 'Odisha is going to be the textile hub of Eastern India,' while inaugurating Odisha TEX 2025, Eastern India's largest textile and apparel industry event, organised by the Government of Odisha in Bhubaneswar. The landmark event marked a historic moment for India's textile sector, attracting over 650 delegates, including global brands, leading textile and apparel companies, investors, technology providers, startups, and senior government officials. Odisha TEX 2025 showcased the state's growing strength in textiles and apparel and its commitment to creating a world-class ecosystem for manufacturing, innovation, and employment generation. The event witnessed multiple strategic investment commitments from leading textile and apparel companies, promising to make Odisha a hub for apparel and technical textiles. A total of 33 MoUs were signed, unlocking investments worth Rs 7,808 crore and generating employment for over 53,300 people. More than 160 companies, including respected names like Page Industries, First Step Baby Wear, KPR Mills, Sportking, Adarsh Knitwear, Anubhav Apparels, Bon & Co., and BL International actively participated in the summit. Together, they represent the full spectrum of India's textile value chain from yarn and fabrics to finished garments and technical textiles. The key announcements and policy were the launch of two state-of-the-art Textile & Footwear Parks with plug-and-play facilities for global-standard manufacturing. The Introduction of modern Workers' Hostels to enhance industrial stability and MoUs for Skill Development, enabling youth especially women to gain expertise in automated garmenting, textile machinery, and wearable technologies. The Chief Minister, Majhi, also announced that the employment cost subsidies under the Odisha Technical Textile & Apparel Policy 2022 will be increased from Rs 5,000 to Rs 6,000 per month per male worker & from Rs 6,000 to Rs 7,000 per month per female worker. The Chief Minister also announced that Odisha Tex will be an annual event portraying Odisha's rich handloom legacy & the state foray into modern Textiles, Apparel & Technical Textiles Ecosystem. 'Odisha offers the most attractive incentive packages in the country under its Industrial Policy Resolution 2022 and the Odisha Apparel & Technical Textiles Policy 2022, backed by excellent infrastructure and governance,' said the CM Majhi. Announcing a dedicated Task Force under the Industries Department, the Chief Minister assured investors of fast-track implementation and full government support. He emphasised Odisha's ambitious vision to create over 1 lakh jobs in textiles and apparel by 2030, while expanding new textile clusters in Bolangir, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Jatsinghpur, Ganjam, and Cuttack. 'Odisha TEX 2025 is not just an event; it is a declaration that Odisha is ready to lead Eastern India's textile revolution,' CM Majhi said. While inaugurating the event in Bhubaneswar, CM Majhi announced that Odisha is going to be the textile hub of Eastern India. He further announced the formation of a dedicated Task Force within the Industries Department and assured investors of fast-track implementation and full government support. CM Majhi emphasised Odisha's ambitious vision to create over one lakh jobs in textiles and apparel sector by 2030, while expanding new textile clusters in Balangir, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Jagatsinghpur, Ganjam, and Cuttack. "Odisha TEX 2025 is not just an event; it is a declaration that Odisha is ready to lead Eastern India's textile revolution," CM Majhi said. "With world-class infrastructure, progressive policies, and a skilled workforce, we are creating unmatched opportunities for investors and livelihoods for our people.' The Chief Minister informed that a total of 33 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed during the event, attracting investment proposals worth Rs 7,808 crore. These investments are expected to generate employment opportunities for around 53,300 people across the state. "This is not merely a summit, but a strategic step toward transforming Odisha into the textile capital of eastern India," CM Majhi stated. "The enthusiasm shown by investors from across the country and the scale of commitments made here reaffirm our vision for a robust, industry-led economy." He further announced that the state government will establish five textile parks within the next year, aimed at fostering regional development, boosting exports, and supporting skilled employment. Majhi announced that the employment cost subsidies under Odisha Technical Textile and Apparel Policy 2022 will be increased from Rs 5,000 to Rs 6,000 per month per male workers and from Rs 6,000 to Rs 7,000 per month per female worker. Chief Minister also announced that Odisha Tex will be an annual event portraying Odisha's rich handloom legacy & the state foray into modern Textiles, Apparel & Technical Textiles Ecosystem. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Make in India' and 'Vocal for Local' initiatives, CM Majhi urged citizens and government employees to promote and wear Odisha-made garments at least once a week. "This symbolic gesture can drive awareness and demand for our local textile products and help revive Odisha's traditional weaving heritage," he added. The conclave, attended by national and international textile players, is expected to position Odisha at the forefront of India's textile growth story. A statement mention that more than 160 companies actively participated in the summit. Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said the ongoing dispute with neighbouring Chhattisgarh over the distribution of Mahanadi water could be amicably resolved through negotiations between both the States with the Centre's support. Majhi, in a high-level meeting held at State secretariat Lok Seva Bhavan, emphasised the resolution of the ongoing Mahanadi water dispute with Chhattisgarh. 'The Chief Minister said since the efforts being made to resolve the problem in the Central Water Commission are progressing slowly, it can be amicably resolved through negotiations between both the States with the support of the Central government,' Majhi was quoted as saying in the statement issued by the CMO on Wednesday. Stating that the Central Water Commission can provide technical support in the negotiations, Majhi said this will resolve the long-standing dispute between Odisha and Chhattisgarh and enhance the relations between the two States. On the sidelines of the All India State Water Resources Ministers' Conference held in Rajasthan in February and on the occasion of the World Water Day held in Bhubaneswar in March, the Mahanadi water dispute was discussed between Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bishnu Deo Sai and his Odisha counterpart Mohan Charan Majhi. Both the chief ministers emphasised resolving the issue, it said. Wednesday's meeting reported that discussions are underway between officials of the two States. Apart from Majhi, the meeting was attended by Advocate General Pitambar Acharya, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Development Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary of Water Resources department Anu Garg, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Saswata Mishra, and senior officers and engineers of the Water Resources department. The Mahanadi dispute was presently under the consideration of a tribunal. The Odisha government has alleged that Chhattisgarh has blocked the free flow of water in the Mahanadi river by constructing several barrages on the upstream.

State nod to new investment proposals to boost jobs, economic growth

Bhubaneswar: State govt on Thursday approved 23 new investment proposals valued at Rs 4,982 crore, marking a significant milestone in the state's journey towards achieving its vision of Samrudha Odisha by 2036. The projects, approved during the 138th meeting of the State Level Single Window Clearance Authority (SLSWCA) chaired by chief secretary Manoj Ahuja, are expected to generate 11,933 jobs across 12 districts. The approved projects span multiple sectors, including textiles, steel, food processing, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, IT, tourism, and aerospace and defence. This diverse portfolio reflects the govt's commitment to balanced regional development under chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi's leadership, a govt statement reads. In the textile sector, KPR Mill Limited will invest Rs 350 crore in Khurda to establish a garment manufacturing unit with an annual capacity of 46.8 million pieces, creating 5,000 jobs. The steel sector will see major investments from Vidya Minerals Pvt Ltd (Rs 620 crore) and Jatia Steel Limited (Rs 451.90 crore) in Sundargarh and Jajpur, respectively. The tourism industry received a significant boost with six premium hospitality projects worth Rs 479 crore approved across Puri, Gajapati, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, and Ganjam districts, expected to create 1,352 jobs. In the renewable energy sector, Luminous Power Technologies will invest Rs 950 crore in Gopalpur for solar cell and PV module manufacturing, while Ecodynamix Green Energy will establish a 30 MW solar power plant in Bargarh with a Rs 100 crore investment. A noteworthy development is the approval of BonV Technology's Rs 300 crore Drone Park in Khurda, which will create an integrated UAV ecosystem and 760 jobs, positioning Odisha as a pioneer in drone technology. The agro-processing sector will see investments from Hindustan Aqua Pvt Ltd (Rs 320 crore) and Pragati Milk Products Pvt Ltd (Rs 114.34 crore), strengthening the state's food processing capabilities. "These approvals demonstrate Odisha's commitment to industrial growth and the state's ability to attract diverse investments. The projects will not only create substantial employment opportunities but also contribute significantly to the state's economic development," the statement reads. It said that the approved projects spanning a diverse range of sectors are expected to commence implementation within the next 12 to 24 months, further consolidating Odisha's position as an emerging investment destination in India.
