Civil servants must avoid public rallies, says AG Mohd Dusuki
MACHANG: Civil servants must uphold discipline and avoid participating in public rallies to set a proper example, said Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar. He emphasised that involvement in such gatherings violates the civil service code of conduct, and department heads may take action against offenders. 'Such assemblies actually violate the code of conduct and discipline for civil servants. As public servants, we are supposed to set a good example, and I believe civil servants' involvement in these events does not serve any benefit,' Mohd Dusuki said after launching the Attorney-General's Chambers' Santuni MADANI programme at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Pulai Chondong. The AGC has clarified that civil servants are bound by a directive from the Chief Secretary to the Government prohibiting participation in public assemblies. Mohd Dusuki also distributed RM3,000 in cash aid, a television set, batik cloths, and water bottles to over 1,000 villagers and students. Regarding the recent sentencing of motoring influencer Tengku Nizaruddin Tengku Zainudin and his brother Tengku Abdul Aziz, Mohd Dusuki stated that the AGC would review the matter but refrained from further comment as it remains under court jurisdiction. - Bernama

AGC to re-examine influencer's false report case
PETALING JAYA: The Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) will re-examine the case involving a motoring influencer who lodged a false police report claiming to be missing which led to a massive search and rescue operation in Sungai Tui, Bukit Kepong just over a week ago. According to Sinar Harian, Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar said that although the court has already sentenced the influencer and his brother to one month in jail and fined them RM1,500, his office would conduct a thorough review of the charges and facts of the case. 'I cannot comment further at this point because sentencing falls under the jurisdiction of the court. 'But we will look into the matter again comprehensively — that's all I can say for now,' he told reporters after launching the Santuni Madani: Satu Pemimpin Satu Kampung programme at SK Pulai Chondong near Machang in Kelantan on Saturday (July 26). On Friday, Magistrate Suzana Mokhtar at the Muar Magistrate's Court in Johor sentenced the accused, Tengku Nizaruddin Tengku Zainudin, 38, better known as 'Ija,' and his younger brother, Tengku Abdul Aziz, 30. They pleaded guilty to lodging a false report under Section 182 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of six months, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both upon conviction. The case sparked public outrage among the influencer's followers and frustration among rescue personnel, including the Water Rescue Team (PPDA), whose divers carried out more than 10 high-risk dives in the murky river in search of the two men. Earlier, in an impact statement delivered in court, Fire and Rescue Zone 4 chief Senior Fire Superintendent II Norshuhada Amsari, who led the operation, described the accused's actions as an abuse of emergency resources. She said the hoax disrupted actual emergency operations and wasted government assets and logistics. Norshuhada also revealed that the false alarm forced her team to postpone another critical search mission at Sungai Gersik involving a victim believed to have fallen from a bridge.

He said if any civil servant is found to have joined such gatherings, their respective department heads may take further action as it would constitute a breach of established rules. 'Such assemblies actually violate the code of conduct and discipline for civil servants. 'As public servants, we are supposed to set a good example, and I believe civil servants' involvement in these events does not serve any benefit,' he said after launching the Attorney-General's Chambers' Santuni MADANI programme at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Pulai Chondong here today. Mohd Dusuki also handed over cash aid of RM3,000 and a television set to the school, as well as batik cloths and water bottles to over 1,000 villagers and students. KOTA BARU: The Attorney-General's Chambers (A-GC) will look into the decision by the Muar magistrate's court to sentence a social media influencer and his brother to one month in jail and a RM1,500 fine for lodging a false police report over his disappearance. Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar confirmed the matter when asked to comment on public dissatisfaction, with many saying the punishment handed down by the court was too lenient. However, Dusuki said he could not comment further as the decision fell under the court's jurisdiction. "Nonetheless, we will review the decision," he said at a press conference after launching the Santuni Madani: One Leader, One Village programme by the A-GC at SK Pulai Chondong here today. It was reported yesterday that influencer Tengku Nizaruddin Tengku Zainudin, 38, also known as Ija, and his brother Tengku Abdul Aziz, 30, were each sentenced to one month in jail and fined RM1,500 by the magistrate's court in Muar, Johor. The sentence was handed down after both pleaded guilty to lodging a false report over the influencer's disappearance in Sungai Tui, Bukit Kepong. The court also ruled that Tengku Nizaruddin could face an additional three months' imprisonment and Tengku Abdul Aziz six months, should they fail to pay the fine. Following the court's decision, many expressed dissatisfaction, saying the sentence was too lenient considering the influencer's actions had caused the Fire and Rescue Department to launch a search operation and remain stationed at the location in search of him.

Civil servants advised not to join opposition-led rally, says A-G
KOTA BARU: The Attorney-General's Chambers (A-GC) has advised civil servants not to join the Pas-led rally taking place in Kuala Lumpur today. Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar said civil servants should set a good example for the country. "As stated in our previous statement, civil servants are advised not to take part in the rally as it violates the code of conduct and discipline required of civil servants. "However, for those who do take part, it is up to their respective department heads to take action. "As for the public, as mentioned by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, every individual has the right to assemble, but within certain limits. "It is best to do so peacefully," he said after launching the Santuni Madani: One Leader, One Village programme by the A-GC at SK Pulai Chondong here today. It was previously reported that the police had said that they would ensure the opposition-led rally at Dataran Merdeka today proceeds smoothly and in a safe manner. Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail was quoted as saying that the police respect the people's right to voice their opinions and assemble peacefully, in line with democratic values espoused in the Federal Constitution. A total of 16 roads in Kuala Lumpur are expected to be affected by traffic diversions following the rally.
