Archery coach claims trial to sexually assaulting 15-year-old girl
KLANG: An archery coach claimed trial to charges of sexually assaulting and engaging in carnal intercourse without consent with a 15-year-old girl last week.
Mohd Faizul Md Taib, 39, entered his non-guilty plea after the charge was read out to him before Sessions Court judge Siti Aminah Ghazali.
The father of one was charged with sexually assaulting the girl, an offence under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act which provides a 20-year jail term and whipping upon conviction.
He also faces a separate charge of committing carnal intercourse without consent against the victim under Section 377C of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term not less than five years and up to 20 years, and whipping upon conviction.
The alleged offences took place at 4.20pm at a premises in Kampung Sementa here on June 10.
Deputy public prosecutor Nuruljannah Aimi offered bail at RM15,000 with one surety, along with additional conditions prohibiting the accused or his representatives from harassing the victim.
In mitigation, lawyer Daneish Thayalan said his client earns RM4,000 a month as an archery coach and is supporting his wife and child.
"He is also covering the medical expenses of his father, who is a diabetic and has hypertension.
"Therefore, I ask for a lower bail sum. He has no issues with reporting to the police station monthly," he said.
Siti Aminah set bail at RM10,000 with one surety and allowed the prosecution's additional conditions.
The court set Aug 19 for mention.
