MUAR: The Johor government will provide free tickets to watch the final match for the 2025-2026 Piala Sumbangsih between the Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) and Selangor teams for athletes competing in the 2025 Bangsa Johor Games. Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi ( pic ) said the tickets will be given to the Bangsa Johor Games athletes for their contribution in making the games a success. He said the athletes concerned could get the tickets for the match, to be held at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium (SSI) on Aug 8, from their respective assemblyman. "I hope the Bangsa Johor Games athletes will be able to spare some time on Aug 8 to come and fill up SSI to watch the match between JDT and Selangor for the Piala Sumbangsih," he said when opening the two-day Bangsa Johor Games at the Tunku Mahkota Ismail Youth Centre here on Saturday (July 12) night. Also present was State Youth, Sports, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Committee chairman Mohd Hairi Mad Shah. Onn Hafiz said that the Bangsa Johor Games Games, which began last year as an annual event, was an initiative by the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail, to encourage the people of Johor, especially the youth, to engage in meaningful activities and strengthen the spirit of unity. "The Regent of Johor wants the young people to progress, fill their time with beneficial activities, be educated and get good jobs,' he said, adding that the state government had allocated more than RM1.7mil for the sports meet. Meanwhile, Mohd Hairi, in his speech, said that the Bangsa Johor Games was organised as a platform to discover new sports talents among young people, providing them the opportunity to be nurtured and developed towards becoming a major force in the sporting arena. - Bernama

Johor plans bigger KJH next year with Tourism, Majestic Johor

JOHOR BARU: The Johor state government plans to collaborate with Tourism Johor and Majestic Johor to expand the scale and reach of the Karnival Jom Heboh (KJH) next year. State Youth, Sports, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Committee chairman Mohd Hairi Mad Shah said the initiative aims to provide a broader and more impactful platform for local young entrepreneurs. Speaking at the KJH X National Pineapple Day event at Angsana Johor Baru Mall, Mohd Hairi said that the three-day programme had already attracted more than 250,000 visitors as of yesterday. "I would like to express my sincere thanks to Media Prima for organising this programme, which serves as a stepping stone for emerging entrepreneurs. "We can see many Johorean entrepreneurs, particularly among the younger generation, raising their profiles and becoming more competitive in the market. "God willing, we hope to organise an even bigger programme next year. Today, visitors were already arriving early in the morning. I, along with the Tourism Johor director, may begin early planning, potentially in partnership with Majestic Johor. "I also hope that next year's edition will feature Johor-born artistes," he told reporters during his visit to the KJH X National Pineapple Day booths, accompanied by Media Prima chief operating officer Datuk Mohd Efendi Omar. Yesterday, Deputy Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup was reported as saying that the ministry was confident of achieving its 500,000-visitor target for KJH X National Pineapple Day. JOHOR BAHRU: Johor is targeting a top-three placing in the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in Selangor, said Johor Youth, Sports, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Committee chairman Mohd Hairi Mad Shah. 'I have asked all state sports associations to make early preparations, as instructed by the state government. We need be set an example for other states in terms of the development of athletes and sports hubs. 'I have set the target, which is the top three... but if we end up as overall champions, that will be a bonus,' he told reporters at the Larkin state constituency 'Ibadah Korban Perdana' programmehere today. He said this when asked to comment on Johor's preparations for Selangor SUKMA, which is expected to be held in August 2026. Johor has won the overall title at SUKMA once in the Games' 36-year history when it bagged 77 gold medals in the 2022 edition in Kuala Lumpur. Meanwhile, Mohd Hairi said various international-class sports events are set to be held in the state, including the Sultan of Johor Cup hockey tournament. He reiterated Johor's commitment to become a Sports Nation by 2030, in line with the decree of the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sultan Ibrahim during the opening of the State Assembly session recently. 'Tunku Mahkota Ismail decreed that Johor should be a Sports Nation by 2030, it is quite a huge task for me and my team to place Johor, and Malaysia in general, on the world stage. 'Johor must become a state that provides the best in terms of facilities, infrastructure, athlete development and academics, thus attracting investors,' he said. Earlier, during the 'Ibadah Korban Perdana' programme, a total of 32 cows donated by various parties, including from His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, were slaughtered and the meat was distributed to more than 500 residents of the Larkin state constituency, especially to the asnaf group and those in need.
