Continue Enhancing Nadi To Maximise Public Benefit, Fahmi Tells MCMC
From Mohd Khairi Idham Amran GENEVA (Switzerland), July 7 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has been urged to further enhance all 1,099 National Information Dissemination Centres (NADI) nationwide to maximise benefit for the public. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said key areas for improvement include increasing internet speed and offering additional services such as e-Health. 'I will ask MCMC to review several aspects to ensure that NADI truly becomes NADI MADANI. 'Our aim is for all 1,099 NADI MADANI across the country to be fully utilised by the people,' he told reporters after the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Prizes 2025 award ceremony here today. At the event, MCMC's NADI Digital Inclusive Project was named one of the WSIS Prizes 2025 winners through its NADI Pulau Banggi initiative, for its success in providing digital literacy, skills training and economic opportunities to one of Malaysia's most remote island communities. Fahmi said the award reflects global recognition of MCMC's initiative to bridge the digital divide and improve internet connectivity for Malaysians. 'This is an acknowledgement that MCMC's efforts not only help close the digital gap across the country, including in areas long affected by poor connectivity, but can also serve as a model for other nations. 'In many places, when I share about such initiatives with fellow ministers, they express strong interest in learning more about this model,' he said.

Clear And Consistent Policies Key To Attracting Foreign Investments
From Mohd Khairi Idham Amran GENEVA, July 7 (Bernama) -- Clear and consistent government policies, backed by political stability, are among the key factors drawing foreign investors to Malaysia, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. Speaking at a gathering with the Malaysian diaspora on Sunday, Fahmi cited the MADANI Economy framework, the 12th Malaysia Plan, the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030), and the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) as examples of coherent policies that inspire investor confidence. 'These policies provide clarity and assurance to investors. They trust that such policies won't be changed arbitrarily,' he said. He pointed to recent data from the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) and the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) as proof that Malaysia continues to be a preferred destination for foreign direct investment. In fact, according to the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), approved investments for the first quarter of 2025 totalled RM89.8 billion, a 3.7 per cent year-on-year increase, despite global economic headwinds. The gathering, held at Rumah Malaysia here, was attended by around 50 Malaysians, including students, professionals, and staff from the Permanent Mission of Malaysia to the United Nations. Also present was Malaysia's Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Datuk Nadzirah Osman. During the event, Fahmi also highlighted Malaysia's progress in the communications sector. 'Malaysia is among the top 10 countries in the world with the cheapest internet, and we have the second fastest internet speed in the Asia-Pacific region after South Korea,' he noted.

Fahmi Leads Malaysian Delegation To WSIS+20 In Geneva
From Mohd Khairi Idham Amran GENEVA (Switzerland), July 6 (Bernama) -- Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil will lead the Malaysian delegation to the World Summit on the Information Society+20 High-Level Event (WSIS+20), which will be held here from July 7 to 11. The Communications Ministry, in a statement today, said Malaysia's participation in WSIS+20 is part of the MADANI Government's ongoing efforts to strengthen an inclusive national communications technology ecosystem aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 'This participation brings various strategic benefits to the country, including global recognition of Malaysia's leadership in expanding rural internet access, communication technology inclusivity, and initiatives to empower ICT literacy among citizens in line with the well-being values of Malaysia MADANI,' the statement said. According to the statement, Malaysia is also using the WSIS platform to showcase key initiatives such as the National Digital Network Plan (JENDELA) and National Information Dissemination Centres (NADI), thereby strengthening its position as a regional leader in communication technology transformation. WSIS is a United Nations platform that brings together global leaders to leverage ICT for sustainable development, covering key components including the WSIS Action Lines – a framework comprising 11 ICT-related focus areas such as infrastructure, capacity building, cybersecurity and enabling environments. In addition, the WSIS Prizes recognise high-impact technological development projects, with 234 winners and 648 champions recognised since the awards were first introduced in 2012. During WSIS+20, Fahmi is also scheduled to hold more than 10 bilateral meetings with counterparts from countries such as the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Poland, Somalia, Greece, Russia, and Algeria, as well as a meeting with the Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Doreen Bogdan-Martin. -- BERNAMA

REGION - SOUTHERN > NEWS By Mohd Khairi Idham Amran JOHOR BAHRU, May 30 (Bernama) -- Johor Corporation (JCorp) is focused on empowering Bumiputera entrepreneurs to compete within regional supply chains linked to the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ). Its president and chief executive, Datuk Syed Mohamed Syed Ibrahim, said the state government-owned company provides support to Bumiputera entrepreneurs through initiatives ranging from enterprise upskilling at the Johor Skills Development Centre (Johor Skills) to procurement readiness, sectoral certification and financing support through collaborations with Tabung Ekonomi Kumpulan Usaha Niaga (TEKUN), SME Corp and Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA). bootstrap slideshow He emphasised that these are not standalone programmes but part of a deliberate strategy to integrate Bumiputera SMEs into high-growth sectors such as logistics, digital services, and agri-food. 'Inclusion without capability leads to dependency. We're building businesses that can stand, scale and stay relevant in tomorrow's economy,' he told Bernama in an interview recently. Syed Mohamed said JCorp is also working with partners to create industry mentorship pathways and market access platforms to ensure long-term business viability, not just short-term participation. Additionally, he said JCorp has also been planning for areas outside of JS-SEZ and the primary economic corridor to benefit from the economic development. 'We are doing so by planning from the outset for spillover, not sprawl. We plan intentionally for balanced growth, ensuring development reaches areas beyond primary corridors. 'Balanced growth requires intentional design. We don't wait for the market to trickle as we seed development where it's needed most,' he said.

With Singapore on our doorstep, Johor has the advantage of proximity and potential, making it ideal for next-generation industries such as electrical and electronics, digital economy, green economy, halal industry, food technology, agritech and renewable energy.
